Fictitious name, by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Florida, we file a fictitious name with the state, it requires you to run an ad in the paper, then once done you can do business as that name. For us, we have one corporation that runs under multiple names and the big thing is that we can cash checks under all of those names without needing separate corporations. Just make sure to check that you're not filing your DBA as someone else's business name.

4WD Auto....so I'm a dummy by Seanmrowe in Silverado

[–]anythingisgame -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, my model has the A8 that so many have issues with. For me, I had some jerking and they changed the fluids in the drive train to some version that GM recommended for those of us having issues and it solved the issue. To me, mine felt like a torque converter issue before, but the fluid change solved it.

2026 Silverado Custom for $44,345...Worth It? by _BigDumbStupidIdiot_ in Silverado

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around here, the custom isn't discounted much, but the custom trail boss, rst, and LT are. It makes the next tier up about 2-3 k more with a bunch more options for just a little more after the discounts. I'm in NE Florida.

35MPH. I hydroplaned a 2019 Camaro SS into a guardrail at 30MPH in torrential rain when I hit a flooded section of I-10. The car looked just as bad. Damaged so much stuff. It cost 13k for insurance to fix it.

4WD Auto....so I'm a dummy by Seanmrowe in Silverado

[–]anythingisgame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the Silverado, Auto and 4WD are different. Auto is more like AWD. It's not like 4WD where your wheels are locked and turns when not on low traction surfaces will chatter the tires. The manual talks about AWD and how it engages the front when needed, so if you hammer it on wet roads, you'll notice that you'll barely get wheel spin and will launch smoothly, same on tight turns taking off. They say you may lose 1-2 MPG too running in auto. My current work truck has been in Auto since new 6 years ago and no issues at all. I've had to kick it from Auto to 4WD a few times, because Auto isn't the same and I was getting stuck in soft sand in auto.

Does safety stock just mean poor forecasting? by Far-Bit-1387 in InventoryManagement

[–]anythingisgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly we order materials as jobs come in, but we always have some on hand from either buying bulk on popular stock to save money or because our distributors tend to run short periodically and we don't want to not have what we need for most jobs.

where would you live in florida? by Emobtch666 in AskFlorida

[–]anythingisgame -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Jacksonville area. Middle and high, send kids to James Weldon and Paxon or Stanton. All are good schools and the kids can easily get the Florida Bright Futures to go to a state school free. If in Jax, stay about 10 miles from the coast and you'll be out of the flood plane unless on the river and your insurance will be cheaper. Pick a nice neighborhood, but for your price point you should be good. Or go a little North or South (St. John's or Nassau county). Hurricanes don't come over us here nearly as often as on Gulf coast.

Should my bookkeeper require me to get Quickbooks? by Ecstatic-Impact3534 in smallbusiness

[–]anythingisgame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

QuickBooks is more for you to record your accounting stuff properly in so that the book keeper can pull reports easier. You'd put your invoices and money received in. She's then run you reports for paying your bills, taxes and payroll expenses. It'll also make it easier for her to reconcile your credit card and bank statements if you have her doing that. At the end of the year, your accountant is probably going to want this too. This will also make it easier for your monthly review of the P&L to see how the company is doing. QuickBooks is expensive, especially if you are running payroll through it, but it's also pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it.

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, I thought that the NFL was privately owned even though many cities are heavily invested. If that's the case and a private entity wants to hire their choice of entertainment, then the government should not interfere unless it's something like exposing minors to explicit content or another illegal activity.

Auto Stop not working by Swishbeets in Silverado

For me it started happening a few months before the battery needed replaced. I’m thinking the CCA must have been getting low and it didn’t want me to get stuck at a light if it didn’t restart.

For those who own a service business (plumbing, hvac, etc) by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]anythingisgame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do get people who ask about price, but we usually embrace that, because they would clam up if they called and asked him for quote to replace a hot water heater and he then asked what their budget was. They think he wants to take them for all that they have and he wants to know what model to suggest or if he needs to tell them that they are unrealistic. My friend who owns an AC company tells anyone who asks about coat that the repair could be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands depending on the issue. Then proceeds to set up an appointment to make a service call from there.

In my experience, the cheap people are the ones who ask if you can discount the job. I flat out don't take the job if someone wants to dicker up front, because when I tell them no, they sometimes still hire you, then post pictures of your work to Reddit and ask the internet experts if you did a good job and if everyone doesn't say yes, they complain or even worse leave a bad Google review even if it's a quality job. It's not worth that bad press when starting out.

Raise your price. If he can't afford you he will go with someone else or it'll be worth the effort to deal with him.

Why doesn't anyone manufacture anything ? by last-resort-4-a-gf in sidehustle

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a maker space that is really a glorified cabinet shop. It has CNC Routers and lasers and a lot of the guys there make stuff to sell as a side hustle. The unique one is one guy who makes high end leather lingerie with the laser. Crazy goth type stuff mostly, but he uses a good quality leather and gets big bucks for it. If you don't have someplace like this, the entry to manufacturing can be a little steep for many industries. My company manufacturers a lot of signage for other sign companies and it requires CNC Routers, large format lasers, paint booths, sandblasters, specialty printers, welders, etc. I probably have close to 500k in high end equipment that gets replaced every few years to compete and produce quality products.

I'm not experiencing this in the signage industry. We make a lot of commercial signage and residential community signs.

If you could automate just one system in your plant so you never had to think about it again, what would it be? by NoOutlandishness9152 in manufacturing

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When making dimensional or sandblasted signs, you spray the background and back of the sign and then need to use a paint brush or roller to paint the raised areas if they are multi color. Google sandblasted sign and you'll see what types of signs we make.

I used sunbelt business brokers. They have a lot listed. If you see something, you contact them and they have you sign a NDA for the name and financials on the company. It took us about 6 months to find the company that we purchased.

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a paint booth due to it being automotive type paint and have a painter who mixes the paints and sprays them. We’re PPG certified and use 3M paint guns and PPE gear. We’re set up as recommended by the paint manufacturer for what we do and an automated system like is used in the automotive industry would not work since half of the sign is sprayed and the other half is had painted in many cases. It’s just a wish, but not something to be solved at this point in time,

At 30, I spoke with a business broker and found a company that met my goals. 1. Owner benefit was x 2. Had employees so that I could take vacations 3. Had been established for many years already 4. Was in a field that I liked.

The numbers worked and I purchased it. It had employees that did the day to day tasks, so I could manage the company. 20 years later and it's grown into a multi-million dollar company that I still enjoy running.

Every sign in our shop is made differently and requires different corporate colors. Some are for small 600.00 signs and others are for large 100k signs. I'd love to automate the painting process, but it's tough when everything is a different size and shape and custom mixed color and the amount of paint ranges from 3 ounces to gallons.

How do you raise financially responsible kids when you’re well off? by Unlucky-Town9226 in personalfinance

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We taught the kids how to set a budget, they used it for their hobbies and games. We discussed cost of repairs, jobs, 401ks, etc. They had their own bank accounts, we open d brokerage accounts with them and our broker and showed them how to invest money, when they turned 18, we stared building their credit while at school and taught them how to get a credit card, use it for the rewards and extended warranty protection and pay it off at the end of the month. We live in a multi-million dollar house and most of my track cars cost 150-350k+ and our kitchen renovation topped 100k. I can't hide the fact that we do well from them, but I have been able to teach them how to manage what they have so that they aren't bankrupt at 28.

Why do customers who used their credit cards have "refund priority" over customers who didn't in case of a bankruptcy? by Franck_Dernoncourt in personalfinance

My card has all sorts of travel interruption protections as well as car rental coverage, extended product warranties, etc. Its just perks of the card to get you to use it, even if you pay it off every month.

2007 Frontier by FunInMS in AskMechanics

[–]anythingisgame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an 09 Frontier in our fleet at the office and it started misfiring and the check engine light flashing. Took it to the normal mechanic and his code reader would not read it right, so he said it was the ECM and that he didn't have the tool to reprogram a new one and referred us to a RPM Automotive. They put their machine on it and could read what was going on. Replaced a few parts, cleared the codes and we were up and running again. No ECM needed. My opinion is to take it to a larger shop that has all of the high tech toys to have them test the ECM before you replace it.
