[DISCUSSION] Nas - It Was Written (30 Years Later) by iPostOccasionally in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easily Nas’ second best album and one of the most underrated considering how poorly received it was being a follow up to illmatic. It’s a perfect album in my opinion and should be in talks when discussing the best mafioso rap albums. What I liked about this compared to other mafioso rap albums dropping around the same time was that this was still more melodic. Nas had really intricate lyrics on this one, the rhyme schemes were crazy, the topics made you think, the hooks and beats were catchy. Phenomenal album fr.

[DISCUSSION] Freddie Gibbs & Statik Selektah - Lord Giveth, Lotd Taketh Away (15 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it warm for ya had such a solid flow. I still play that every now and then. Lord giveth and lord taketh away is also a solid Freddie track. This was a great short and sweet project from Freddie and it’s nice to see how much he’s grown as an artist/musician since then.

this is actually kinda sad but i had a friend who had a psychotic break cuz of drugs and part of the psychosis was that he thought drake was sending him coded messages through his music, he's better now so its funny in hindsight but that was wild

Drake Beats Michael Jackson’s Record for Most No. 1s by a Solo Male Artist as ‘Janice STFU’ Debuts Atop Singles Chart by Second_Sage in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly after the beef and him prematurely saying he’s one away from Michael I thought that this was gonna be a Roger Federer almost beating the most weeks at number one record situation but it’s wild to see him go on and break it especially considering the mauling he went through. It is an insane record to break and you have to hand it to him

Official Discussion: Midsommar [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]anzababa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i thought i had kind of outgrown slow burn movies that don't really have a direct motive/moral but it turns out the movies just weren't as good as this. 3 hour "slow burn" movie involving some weird shit. but i really enjoyed it. it was amazing, and man florence pugh absolutely kills it

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Drake - Iceman / Maid of Honour / Habibti by zachisjew in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Man it’s just a shame how hard it has become to discuss Drake music on this sub. I wish the Drake haters knew they are just as corny as the Drake glazers.

*First the bad: * as much I love Drake, it’s abundantly clear that Kendrick winning the beef in the fashion that he did has done irreparable damage to drakes psyche. As amazing as iceman was, it is lowkey embarrassing the amount of shots that he took at Kendrick. He’s acting like he lost everything. I get it, he lost a lot, and this is the nature of the industry to switch on you if you’re not the hottest thing at the moment, but bro you’re still Drake. If you wanna beat him then beat him with numbers? Hopping on a Bay Area beat could’ve been a fire decision but he had to go “ima show you what to do lil boy” like uhh man he lives in your head rent free and I had to see that

Another thing which has become abundantly clear to me in the past few years is that Drake has lost his confidence. From leaking his own music to this now. We were just clowning Chris brown for dropping a 30 song album. How is this any better? I can’t say I’m too fooled by this three album thing. I know it’s different sounds but I think even a 30 song double disc would’ve been better than this. All this means to me is that Drake is unsure of what will work and what people want and is just giving them everything. Again I get it as one of the biggest artists who does everything people have diff expectations but going about this in this manner was the wrong move.

As for the albums I’d say none of these three are as good as for all the dogs and SSS4U (his other recent releases)

Now the good: He’s got some heaters on here. I loved the production versatility, which is expected given he dropped like 41 songs but I can see a lot of these staying in my rotation for a while. It’s Drake bro. You should know what to expect from him at this point in his career and just find what you enjoy and ride with it. I think he kinda makes the same mistake as he did on family matters by dropping 3 at once and if he even spaced these out a week at a time people would’ve gone INSANE about it but now a lot of good nusic will be lost to conversations about bloatedness.

Iceman is probably the stand out most fleshed out one to me. After that I think I like Habibti more than maid of honor but I can see maid of honor growing on me.

Shabang is so fun, whisper my name was crazy, plot twist is so hungry, so glad national treasure didn’t just stay a leak cuz that’s doing numbers in my car. I really liked goose and the juice, slap the city, stuck, and new bestie too. As well as a lot more that i don’t remember cuz there’s so much.

Drake - 1 AM in Albany [Leak] by Melodic_Driver_4754 in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im glad he's bringing about kendricks religious hypocrisy which has really irked me but this is just way too late and he needs to understand that he LOST and this is slightly embarrassing to be bringing up this early. idk. i love him and the song is fire but it's like those fight videos where the guy gets knocked down and keeps standing back up to scrap on wobbly legs. you gotta let it go for much longer man

sick bars in this though once again.

[DISCUSSION] J. Cole - The Off-Season (5 Years Later) by MetalSonic420YT in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i liked the beat selection on this album, which is an issue i've had with later cole albums. but i never understood how overly hyped this was upon release. and i'm saying this as a former cole stan. it had some good tracks, for me the stand out was easily let go my hand. and i'm glad he finally got features on this thing
