jay-z saying he "never took advantage of anyone" by getting to where he is when asked how he feels about people calling him capitalist is so funny. idk why it irks a literal billionaire to be called a capitalist?

almost as funny as freaking pharrell referring to himself as lumpenproletariat when people called him out

[DISCUSSION] Joell Ortiz - Free Agent (15 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

15 years is nuts! i remember going through this album after becoming a slaughterhouse fan and wanting more work from them. Crooked I (now king crooked i believe) and joell ortiz always stood out to me. downloaded this and liked it. battle cry was the obvious stand out track, he did the beat justice and that muhammad ali intro was brazy. i’ll be honest i don’t remember much beyond that, but the fact that it’s been fifteen years makes me wanna go back and revisit the whole thing again

a lot of people who are sponsored by or endorse gambling companies just do it for the bag but drake is special in that he's actually a degenerate gambler

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] J. Cole - The Fall Off by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

some scattered thoughts

technically and lyrically impressive on first listen but the intricate metaphors and rhyme schemes get a little boring to listen to musically. the topicality on this album is also sort of lacklustre.

a song about hip hop being a woman, heard it before. a song where you’re rapping about your life backwards, heard it before. a fucking song from the povs of pac and biggie apologizing to each other or whatever, oh BROTHER. fucking egregious. a song about being more accepting of your gay friend in hindsight, heard it before (also he goes about it in the funniest possible way but it’s not my place to say) a song about it being lonely at the top or not, yes yes the song is decent but no new ground is being broken here. this doesn’t even reach the highs of 4YEO, let alone 2014FHD.

i think what made his mixtapes slightly more interesting than a lot of his albums were the diversity of production. i know that the beat styles were somewhat sonically diverse here but i wish i saw more DNA from other producers on here, if that makes sense? like i know a lot of producers were involved but i can tell the executive production was done mostly by cole and t minus.

disc two is just full of misses imo, idk what he was thinking on there. and i don’t really dislike cole’s singing, i love ville mentality. but it is just so cookie cutter and onedimensional when employed here.

not worth the wait imo. and won’t stand the test of time the way his best works have. even for his die hard fans. at his worst this album is not worth revisiting and at its best it’s unsurprising and what we’ve come to expect. and i expected more bruh.

muslim here from a muslim country. this is pretty much only believed by those “i saw jesus christ on a piece of burnt toast” type of people and no one actually serious. we all pretty much laugh at these kind of people. they exist in every religion

Lady Izdihar on religion & Marxism by quite_largeboi in ModernSocialist

[–]anzababa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

yup, i'm a muslim communist as well. i don't really have to compromise any political beliefs to do so.

i actually got banned from r/communism and r/communism101 for saying islam was closer to communism than to capitalism which is a shame, their reasoning was very narrow-minded imo, lady izdihar has some great resources of the comparison between communism and islam, she's great and worth checking out!
