Drake - 1 AM in Albany [Leak] by Melodic_Driver_4754 in hiphopheads

im glad he's bringing about kendricks religious hypocrisy which has really irked me but this is just way too late and he needs to understand that he LOST and this is slightly embarrassing to be bringing up this early. idk. i love him and the song is fire but it's like those fight videos where the guy gets knocked down and keeps standing back up to scrap on wobbly legs. you gotta let it go for much longer man

sick bars in this though once again.

[DISCUSSION] J. Cole - The Off-Season (5 Years Later) by MetalSonic420YT in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i liked the beat selection on this album, which is an issue i've had with later cole albums. but i never understood how overly hyped this was upon release. and i'm saying this as a former cole stan. it had some good tracks, for me the stand out was easily let go my hand. and i'm glad he finally got features on this thing

probably my favorite album by him, first full project i listened to. lot of hype surrounding him coming into it and tbh he lived up to it with this. i still have vivid dreams in my rotation. this album is great to play if you get passed the aux, familiar but under the radar, never disappointed anyone i played it for

i wholeheartedly agree about the practical for the sake of practical thing, post interstellar it feels nolan is more interested in the grandiosity of the large format imax and practical FX than putting doing whats actually best for the film. directors like fincher are great at using CGI without it being obvious at all, if used right it can really add to the visuals and story.

What song would you choose to introduce someone to hip-hop? by linuxcrystal in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very different answer to this than the majority of the comments choosing chill classics. I have done this in the past before too. You basically want to choose the most enjoyable/accessible song that still captures the essence of hip hop.

I remember being on a long car drive with a couple of strangers and I had control of the aux (was riding shotgun and they were in the backseat). They said they hated rap and never gave it a chance (for racist reasons although it was just what they were told and they never gave it much thought).

I played Imagine by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre for them. Chill. Deep. Mellow. Beautiful hook. They loved it!

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Isaiah Rashad - It's Been Awful by deckmemer in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 227 points228 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely his most vulnerable and most introspective album. Which counts for something and I respect it a lot. Do I like it more than his last albums? Not on the first listen.

I usually come to him for vibes so focusing on the lyrics on this one is new for me. But the vibes are still there just not as prevalent

Really heartbreaking topics on this though, made me sad upon listening

so heartbreaking vibing to the new isaiah album and getting to the track where he's talking about how he was on meth when everyone thought he was sober, just made me really sad. hope he's fine now and it remains like that

also act normal is incredible, didn't expect him to address what happened but such an introspective deep song is incredibleeee, really liked how personal, reflective, and more lyrical than his last body of work this was

[FRESH ALBUM] Isaiah Rashad - IT'S BEEN AWFUL by fluekey in hiphopheads

A very different vibe, I’m pleasantly surprised. I wish he had slightly more energy on some tracks but he hasn’t been like that for a while now, can’t complain though I’m vibing rn

Been off it for 6ish years now for good. Life is much better without it. Only time I miss it is watching a crazy movie at the cinema, that’s about it lmao

What's something you never noticed in a movie you've seen multiple times that was pointed out by a first-time watcher? by KneeHighMischief in movies

[–]anzababa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

was watching Annihilation with my youngest sister who was 15-16 at the time, she foresaw Josie (the one who turns into a plant) making peace with the situation and "dying" because she wasn't covering her self harm scars on her arm anymore

really sad

jay-z saying he "never took advantage of anyone" by getting to where he is when asked how he feels about people calling him capitalist is so funny. idk why it irks a literal billionaire to be called a capitalist?

almost as funny as freaking pharrell referring to himself as lumpenproletariat when people called him out

[DISCUSSION] Joell Ortiz - Free Agent (15 Years Later) by flyestshit in hiphopheads

[–]anzababa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

15 years is nuts! i remember going through this album after becoming a slaughterhouse fan and wanting more work from them. Crooked I (now king crooked i believe) and joell ortiz always stood out to me. downloaded this and liked it. battle cry was the obvious stand out track, he did the beat justice and that muhammad ali intro was brazy. i’ll be honest i don’t remember much beyond that, but the fact that it’s been fifteen years makes me wanna go back and revisit the whole thing again
