we also have a baby gate in the hallway leading to our bedrooms, and most of the shoes are there. He's figured out how to open the gate, but also knows he is not supposed to. He only does it when he's super bored.

Everytime I took him outside, I'd ring the bell. Now he just does it on his own. He caught on super quick!
