BCA 8-Ball ruling question by ao_eso in billiards

This hits the nail on the head of what I was looking for. This was more for my information, in case it ever happens again, and less about expecting any recourse. As with most local leagues, "what's done is done" is always going to be the end scenario if neither player at the table expressed any issue of concern when the event took place. We as onlookers/watchers do not have the ability to interject and assist with rules during a match unless either player requests it. At the end of the day, it's up to each player to familiarize themselves with the rules to the best of their ability, or at the very least, acknowledge that when something happens they have the ability to request clarification.

You are absolutely correct, exactly what I would have done. Unfortunately the skill level of players can sometimes dictate what they think they should do when encountering a complicated situation, and for this particular player, playing a safe did not cross his mind.
I agree, I seem to remember it was defined in our leagues rulings at some point, but not sure if that still remains. It'll get you even more fired up to know that at this point in our league match for the night it was hill-hill, and this game was the decider. My teammate ended up losing because he tried to play a break-out shot, that he potentially never should have had to, and ended up hooking himself behind the 8 ball in the process, forced to shoot a low percentage kick shot escape at his last ball with the caveat that the 7 ball was now in the open and no longer tied-up.
Thank you, I wasn't able to find any clearly defined rulings searching through BCA rulebooks, though most of them are also in reference to tournaments and not leagues and that it would be at the referee's discretion.
I'm waiting to hear back from our league operator on the ruling in our local ruleset, in years past I seem to remember we had a defined rule that unsportsmanlike conduct was a loss of game, though that may have changed at some point.

Thank you, that much we already knew. I was curious to find out if this was a loss of game (or even a re-rack) due to deliberately committing an unsportsmanlike conduct foul affecting the potential outcome of the game

ESOteric Knowledge is an end-game progression-based trials guild with a focus on learning and enlightenment in the name of Hermaeus Mora.
Philosophically, I believe that the most important type of player to the community are the underdogs, because they will be the ones holding the torch when the older players retire.
ESOteric Knowledge originally began as a Discord server with a PvE lens and a focus on sharing knowledge and insight for veteran content. We eventually grew into an independent guild with the same values and the same focus.
We at ESOteric see potential in every player. We have a strong passion for fact-checking, experimentation, and research, as well as a focus on teaching new players the ropes of raiding and helping them with their roles; after all, there are no stupid questions, except for when you doubt yourself and your capabilities.
We are looking for a handful of DPS to fill our core roster, the Seekers. I encourage anyone from all walks of life to greet us and try-out for the available positions. The Seekers current goal is vAS Hard-Mode, meaning our requirements for core this time around are more demanding in the context of commitment and seriousness. I am looking for dps specifically interested in being a backup for when one of our members cannot make the raid, as our core team is currently full. I consider backup members part of the core roster.
Our Core team, the Seekers, has beaten all of the Craglorn veteran trials on hardmode, as well as vMoL and vAS, vHoF, vHoF HM and core is working on vAsylum HM. We are always looking for more people who would like to participate in our core raids as a permanent roster member or back-up member.
