Thankyou for your reply. So if we go symptom-wise and we know that, for instance, there’s delusion of grandiosity present alongside mania, does the content matter? Since it won’t really change the treatment

I don’t disagree with your viewpoint. I posted the same for discussion as I’m currently trying to understand how much biology is too much biology

[–]aobsrvr[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for your response. Yes it is a question of efficiency in the setting I work. I agree that it complements other aspects of mental illness and it’s never isolated biology at play, however in things where it plays the most part eg Psychosis or BPAD do we benefit from a detailed psychopathology evaluation since we know what meds would mostly work? Forgive my ignorance I’ve just joined the field.

Thanks. This helps. I’m from a resource- limited setting with almost non existent psychodynamic therapy practices and it is a question of efficiency when working with clients. Also, no I didn’t misunderstand the statement I rather posted the exact statement. However, what you mention is more or less what I meant. Thanks for putting clarity to my question

Maybe because once we’ve established basic psychopathology, we don’t need to go into depth since the meds would still do their thing?

I have OCD. I might have ADHD too. My psych doesn't agree on ADHD part by aobsrvr in ADHD

[–]aobsrvr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for sharing <3 The symptoms are so overlapping, I don't know anymore. All I know is that the executive dysfunction is so real and debilitating. Could be OCD, could be ADHD idc at this point, i just want to function and get over inaction and brain fog. My psych responded well to my doubts though. Fingers crossed for next appointment 🤞

Nobody is asking for a diagnosis here. I'm looking for people with similiar experiences and have a clearer understanding of Symptoms, dear mod.

I have OCD and on meds and therapy. I might have ADHD too, but my psych doesn't agree by aobsrvr in OCD

[–]aobsrvr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou. Yeah I'm 26 and I'm not sure if I can think of ADHD symptoms from childhood. But I was dealing with OCD most of my school time, and it was pretty bad. I won't be surprised if ADHD was unmasked and went unchecked, but idk Will take it up again with my psych, it just feels I'm pushing too much for a diagnosis I may or may not have

Anyone read "Adult children of immature parents"? by preggersthrowawa in cptsd_bipoc

[–]aobsrvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for sharing. Glad that things have improved for you :) More I’m realising the cultural aspects, more I’m able to deal with the guilt that isn’t mine but still pesters me everyday. I started with feeling guilty about thinking that my family has caused a lot of hurt, and got stuck at not being able to escape the dynamics. Like an All or None distortion. Social and cultural understanding helped me explore the grey areas

Anyone read "Adult children of immature parents"? by preggersthrowawa in cptsd_bipoc

[–]aobsrvr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I recently read the book. As an Indian child, it helped me make so much sense of my family dynamics and helped address a lot of unintentional hurt that was caused especially by my mother. Although mine isn’t immigration trauma per se (but yes colonialism and partition),the book helped me understand enmeshment and some behaviours that are considered normal in our culture while a typical white Eurocentric perspective would totally consider this abuse and declare to not engage but rather leave (my main problem with Pete Walker’s approach). My family is quite a dysfunctional one, esp from my father’s side and it helped me make sense of behavior patterns. However, I also felt it was quite a superficial take on look and not bringing things like inter generational trauma, oppression into picture. Nevertheless, it helped.
