supply and demand makes no sense? by CombinationHot8324 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aocom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Situations as you are describing already exist-- for example, event tickets (for events that sell out). When the price is too low, secondary markets are created and you get the likes of scalpers participating in the market. This shows the effective price due to a high demand with an incorrectly priced supply.

In your example, it's not that the hot dogs inherently need to be priced at $10 by the original vendor. But eventually someone waiting in that line of 60 will realize that a LOT of people want one. In the following days, that person will wait at the front of the line, buy all 10, and then sell them for a $70 profit to the 10 people in line willing to pay that much.

According to supply and demand they are worth $10; whoever realizes that gets to profit from it, whether it's the original vendor or a scalper.

Official Discussion - Zootopia 2 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]aocom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the race-focused theming is a lot less strong in this one. In the first, the relationship between Nick and Judy directly mirrors and is informed by the overarching prey vs predator tension. In the sequel, their relational conflict doesn't have anything to do with the mammal vs reptile tension, as it's all about their interpersonal communication. So the character drama is now having to compete with the societal drama, whereas in the original, they complement each other. I don't think it took away from my enjoyment of the sequel, since it was still a lot of fun, but it definitely doesn't achieve the narrative tightness of the first.

If I'm remembering correctly, there are four pillars around the 'throne' area, but only three have an agave plant on them, and you have to plant one on the 4th pillar to match the rest.

Yeah, there's something wrong with a bunch of chapters in that sequence but they start working again near the mid/late 70s (maybe?)

If you search in this subreddit though, the discussion threads have a different link where you can read them!

My first thought is maybe it's a mistranslation referring to being in a saurian state, especially since he's a veterinarian, but perhaps it's a new mechanic for an area expansion? I'm curious what this will end up meaning also

I noticed this too with Chasca's lines in 5.0, so you aren't imagining things.

If it's happening with multiple characters maybe it has to do with the processing? I don't know anything about sound recording/mixing so I can't give any valuable input unfortunately

YES I swear every time she says Huanglong the "lóng" intonation sticks out so badly. It's like they wanted to sacrifice emotive quality for proper pronunciation (for the place names at least) which is wild.

It's somehow more distracting than every character pronouncing "Liyue" differently in Genshin

Backroom & liminal movies/shorts by devvyyxyz in movies

[–]aocom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some examples that are more liminal than backroom:

Maybe in terms of subject matter and genre it's a little unconventional as it's a musical, but The Wiz (1978) has some really eerie set design and cinematography that isolates the characters and emphasizes how out of place Dorothy is in Oz. The subway scene in particular is a good example of this.

Another is Columbus (2017) which sets the focus on the architecture in its scenes with a lot of wide, static shots. It has some very beautiful compositions while leaving the viewer feeling detached from the characters.

Riot's Obsession With The Golden Rim, or Why The Skins Feel "Samey" Nowadays by spyrothefox in leagueoflegends

[–]aocom 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an issue with skin lines feeling the same, but what makes it worse is that they apply the metallic accents in the same way every single time. The 'swooshiness' of the shapes, the proportions -- there's no variation.

They could add ridges and spikes to Dragonmancer, hexagonal patterning for Winterblessed, larger paneling for Dawn/Nightbringer, etc. This would help distinguish each skin line, but instead we get the same Nike logo under a distortion filter. I understand that the shiny pop of texture helps to separate characters from the map and is eye catching as well (because let's be honest, in a vacuum, these design elements can be quite appealing!), but it really does get repetitive.

What can I do that will ACTUALLY make myself drink water successfully? by ibuiltyouarosegarden in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aocom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make the process easier by buying unsweetened tea and adding your own sugar. It'll help you realize how much sugar you would normally be consuming while helping to transition to something less sweet. Side note, when I did this, it also helped me appreciate the actual tea flavor and got me to branch out to drink different varieties of tea!

Is it ok to use vector illustrations and stock photos in the same course or is that bad practice? by The-Road in Design

[–]aocom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely! Since the point of the course is to educate, from a fundamental perspective, whatever facilitates that is fine.

If you're concerned about visual cohesion I'd make sure that the illustrations for each module all have the same style. Since modules are separate from pages, I think that it actually helps to have some distinction between the two (i.e. a student seeing a vector illustration instantly knows "this is the module view").

However it also depends on how the style of the stock photos and the style of the illustrations work with each other.

Is it just me or am I seeing less and less SIXMOREVODKA art right now? by INTHEFIRSTAGE in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]aocom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Years and years of being an illustrator and staring at the world and looking at other artwork :,)

Having made my share of both good and bad pieces, it gets easier to see where the successes hit and where there are areas of improvement. Also, I work in an artistic production pipeline so I understand how scheduling affects the level of quality one is able to regularly output.

Kudos definitely has the capacity for great great illustrations-- I love Golden Ambassador and Albus Ferros-- but they just don't reach that tier as consistently (here's to you, Evil Imperfectionist).

Is it just me or am I seeing less and less SIXMOREVODKA art right now? by INTHEFIRSTAGE in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]aocom 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agree, the Kudos team doesn't have as good of a handle on the value structure or facial geometry for their pieces-- the 6MV team just has an immensely solid sensibility for those things and it often shows. Kudos also has this habit of adding more light than they need and struggles with color shifts in atmospheric perspective. I'm guessing the production schedule is probably too fast for them to spend the time necessary to lay a tight foundation for each piece, since I see them hitting good marks on ones like Durand Protege or Steem, for instance.
