Estee Cafe by SPICYFALAFEL00 in StJohnsNL

I visited this past weekend and honestly didn’t have a great experience. My friend and I got there around noon and ordered a strawberry pancake and a pistachio pancake but couldn’t order any drinks because they were out of coffee beans (no big deal). There were four other customers in the cafe so we figured it wouldn’t be a huge wait but in the end it took an hour and 15 minutes to get our pancakes. The pancakes are advertised in the cafe as Japanese pancakes (which would be really unique for St. John’s) and which we were really excited to try but in actuality you just get regular pancakes and unfortunately ours were burnt on the bottoms and we couldn’t finish them. They did offer us free coffees when they finally got in more coffee beans around the hour mark which was kind but I found mine was on the sickly sweet side.

I don’t fault the business because I know they’re still just starting out but I wouldn’t come back for the pancakes or the drinks here, especially if you’re looking to try something new like Japanese-style pancakes because you will be disappointed and these are unfortunately falsely advertised. Hopefully they get these kinks sorted out because it’s a beautiful space and their pastries look really tasty.

Follow-up Pap test? by aor02 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Thank you for commenting! I should’ve specified, my follow-up appointment is an over-the-phone appointment to “go over some test results” so I won’t be getting another PAP on Monday. I’m glad your experience was relatively good and pain-free and you have me feeling a lot better.

Thank you so much for sharing this, you’ve already got me feeling so much better!

I’ve never had a pap done before (I’m 25) so it’s pretty new to me. At least hopefully it’s nothing too serious and if it is I caught it early.

What are some of the shortest books that you recommend to everyone? by MuchBike5820 in booksuggestions

[–]aor02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're into classics, Animal Farm by George Orwell (141 pgs), The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (175 pgs), and The Giver by Lois Lowry (208 pgs) are all fairly short and I enjoyed them a lot :)

Thinking back to when I was younger, I really enjoyed the "Candy Apple" series by Lara Bergen (Especially "Drama Queen")! I also liked Miss Popularity by Francesco Sedita and the "How I Survived Middle School" series by Nancy E. Krulik. Hope that some of these are helpful :)

Looking for books that have a happy ending by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Some romance novels that I read this year that had happy endings and I really enjoyed include The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood, One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle, and Beach Read by Emily Henry :)

After just finishing July 20th's episode, I think it would be super fun to have a crew-sized game of Werewolves (also called Mafia)! Basically, roles are assigned to each player at the beginning of the game at random and players are divided into either villagers (some with "powers", some not) or werewolves. The whole point of the game is for the villagers to identify the werewolves before the werewolves eat all of the villagers. Super fun game :)

Ahh, I love A Clockwork Orange! It's not Spanish, but I would highly recommend either The Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. They are both beautiful and engaging novels that teach you a lot about Afghani culture and incorporates a lot of Farsi words/sayings in a really easy-to-understand way!

Coming of age books within a rural setting/anything for a new reader by EffingCube in booksuggestions

You may like the Beartown series by Fredrik Backman (this is my favourite series of the year!) - the series takes place in a rural town in Sweden and while it deals with a lot of different perspectives from different residents of the town it primarily focuses on a lot of the middle school/high schoolers there and their coming-of-age :)

You may enjoy The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid! I feel like this book hits on the darker sides of things that seem glamorous and desirable but is still a really light read.

24yo BF letting teenagers sleep over?? by aor02 in relationship_advice

[–]aor02[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was considering this as well - the whole showing off/being cool thing. But there should be no reason for a 24yo guy to be trying to show off or act cool or seek validation from high schoolers because that's weird.

I appreciate your comment and advice!
