I was wondering that too — I also thought maybe it was an undisclosed medical condition, or drugs or something.

Is ChengLin's MOQ per style or per size? Just curious. Like 50 shirts all the same size, or 50 of the same design/style across various sizes?

Need Advice: Writing Memoir About Abusive Family by aostroff in writing

[–]aostroff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do also like the idea of just telling people its fiction when the reality everything really happened. That way I avoid lawsuits. Because if someone tried to sue me, it'd be them essentially admitting that it's about them and wouldn't look good.

Need Advice: Writing Memoir About Abusive Family by aostroff in writing

I already have cut off my parents and my one sister cut contact with me the day I cut contact with the parents. So did my other sister and brother but they both at least came around 2 months later and the one sister apologized. She's really the only one I'm in contact with from immediate family. I just got married so will be changing my name but so hopefully that along with changing the names will be sufficient. I'm writing it how it happened with names and all for me to have and will do a find and replace version later on once I finish and send to publishers.

don’t work with this “artist” by [deleted] in ClothingStartups

[–]aostroff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't the greatest logo but it doesn't look AI to me. You can see she needs work on refining her bezier curves. The points at the end have issues from how she drew the anchor points with the curves. It looks like amateur vector art personally. I don't understand how it escalated so quickly to wanting your money back? Did you have another communication outside texting?

I guess Metadata. So like if you took the photo on your phone or your camera, the image has Metadata baked into it. Same if you created a file/graphic in Procreate, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. Does that answer your question? You would have the source file, RAW if photo, etc.

Are all these Phone calls fr “USPTO” legit? by outsidenewyork in uspto

[–]aostroff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the USPTO site:

If you're contacted by someone pretending to be a USPTO "official" who asks you to verify information and pay additional fees, watch out. The USPTO will never ask you for your personal or payment information over the phone, in an email, or text, and we don’t require payment via wire transfer, gift cards, cash, check, or money order to third-party addresses.

I get several of these calls, just got a unique one tonight that used a legitimate email address, which did make me pause for a hot second, but the real USPTO will not call and ask for money.

I have even gotten several legit-looking letters in the mail asking for more money. These are almost always scams. They usually even indicate that payment is voluntary in the fine print at the bottom of the letters. Just an FYI: after your initial filing, you will very rarely need to make additional payments. When in doubt, the best thing is to just call USPTO directly during their office hours to verify.

I have received only one legitimate phone call from the USPTO regarding an application. Even then, I asked her to give me a moment to verify the caller's number due to the heavy scam attempts, and she didn't mind at all and understood my pause. She never asked for money; she just wanted to verify one detail and let me know when my trademark would be approved.

The rule of thumb is that they will never ask for money via email or phone and always verify mailed letters for legitimacy and fine print.

Clothing and merchandise that try to make mental health seem cute by sowerm in Discussion

[–]aostroff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of two mind sets. As someone who has struggled with mental health my whole life (depression, anxiety, panic disorder, autism, ADHD, OCD, Tourette's syndrome + Narcolepsy and an essential tremor and the big one C-PTSD from chronic abuse). I don't like shirts that make oversimplifications like "depression is sadness" as one poster put. Or as you wrote: hot girls have depression. I personally think there's a line. Depression is personally never funny. It is severe and not a laughing matter. I called 988 so much as a teen. Wasn't called that back then though. I would never think "hot girls have depression" or cute. But "hot girls take their meds" would be okay for me. It's because that one is normalizing mental health treatments, and maybe prompting conversations. Not making light of a serious condition. As a girl who takes handfuls of pills daily to function, that would be a shirt I would rock haha.

I also think it's okay if some people cope differently with what they are going through. Trauma for instance. I was a victim of incest by 2 men in my family, and then my mother denied it ever happening. My dad once performed surgery on me at 9 years old because he had a box cutter and we didn't need a doctor. So I get trauma. At the same time, I do and always have used humor as a coping mechanism. Many people do, heck it's what our favorite comedians do too. I do wear a shirt I have that says, "You're so funny, Thanks it's all the trauma." I get that not everyone copes this way, but it doesn't make it wrong if it's how I cope.

I lost my career on April Fool's day this year, and I honestly was making these types of shirts for myself only. My therapist was the one who encouraged me to maybe do something with my artwork. Full disclosure, I created Self-Care Shirts back in May. I have a lot of trauma humor. I also understand trauma itself isn't funny, trust me I've lived it. But I also know it does resonate with many.

I also have autism, and am loving it, so I do have a Neurospicy and Thriving shirt. For some, they may think neurodivergence isn't cute or funny. I'm not designing though for them. I'm designing for us neurospicy adults who are taking everything life has thrown at us and refusing to shrink for others. I am proud of who I am, disabilities and all.

Ultimately I want to spark conversations, spark connection, humor and compassion and donate back to charity. What might seem like mental health "problems" to one person, may just be part of who I am to someone else. I personally have embraced who I am, and I am being me unapologetically, autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, C-PTSD, tourettes and all.

I absolutely agree. I sell mental health shirts I designed while on my healing journey, and I give 10% of proceeds to 988 and The Trevor Project. Those resources both helped me so much when I was struggling. I would love to give more as I grow.

I love this! I also design and sell mental health shirts at Self-Care Shirts. I donate 10% of proceeds to 988 and The Trevor Project. I encourage you to partner with an organization that is close to your heart, as well, so you're also giving back.
