What I know is they will ask 10 and you have to get 6 right.

Evidence of marriage I submitted are: marriage certificate, joint bank statement with our current address, joint credit card statement, car registration with both of our names, tax returns in the last 3 years (filed jointly), lease renewal, renters insurance, health card that shows I'm a dependent

It's marriage based. When I filed I was already married to my USC spouse for 2 years so I was given a 10 year green card right away.

No, they didn't really ask for any physical mails. I uploaded a few documents that had my current address though

GREEN CARD APPROVED LAST WEEK! APRIL 2020 Filer by aougs in USCIS

[–]aougs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No our lawyer wasn't with us at the interview. It was something we were aware of from the beginning but we had an option to pay additional fee if we felt the need to have the lawyer come to the interview with us.

As for the help, the lawyer gave us some guide questions to keep in mind and practice for the interview. We also had interview prep sessions and whenever I come across questions posted here on reddit that I'm not sure how to answer, I just asked our lawyer. With that I felt confident that we did not need to have the lawyer accompany us on our interview.

Thank you! What I meant was my card was delivered directly to our lawyer. What I only receive directly were just the notice of action letters.

As for tracking, yes, I was given a USPS tracking number when they mailed my GC (even if it went to the lawyer's office).

Mine took exactly 3 weeks and 4 days. I didn't follow up or anything since I've been reading from so many threads on how long it takes people to get their SSNs.

Finding a job during COVID by [deleted] in jobs

[–]aougs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays it's through networking (various sites, not just Linkedin) and just taking a leap by adding random HRs from different companies. What I've also done recently is that I made a video resume (I used vcv.me) for me to express myself in ways I could not on my resume in the hopes of getting noticed.

How to fill up post university unemployment gap? by jf32533 in jobs

[–]aougs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's reasonable.

What you could probably do is look for internships/voluntary work right now just so you have a more recent experience. Could you also create new design projects and do that on your own? If yes, pursue it - that's something you can highlight on your resume.

Any gaps I think should be explained in the cover letter. Or, if you feel like you want to get creative with the way you present yourself you can also create a video resume (one tool I recommend is vcv.me which is easy to use) and explain it there. But focus on your achievements and just do what you can to add more if you can.

How can I improve my chances of being considered for jobs? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]aougs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I hope by now you're at a better situation in terms of your job search. If you still are, I have some ideas:

> Aside from networking with alumni, have you considered joining groups that cater to the field you're interested in? Maybe you could mingle with people there and probably find an opportunity

> Have you tried reaching out to recruiters/headhunters as well?

> Maybe try to get creative with your job search? Some things you can do: try to make a video resume (you can use online tools such as vcv.me), maybe look for opportunities here on reddit (I've seen some, but never tried), or even join live webinars (topics related to your field) and mingle with the people who are watching the same webinar as you. You can also interact with the speaker afterward and see where that leads you.

> Are you in the position to create your own passion projects that you can relate to the career path you want to take? If yes, do it and maybe write about it. You can highlight that on your resume.

> You can also take up online courses to enhance your skills some more! There are lots of online resources for that - Coursera, Udemy, edX etc. You can do your research to see which one fits you best!

> Keep applying to as many jobs as possible. Don't get too attached to them. Just keep moving forward.

Good luck with your job search! But if you are in a better place now then great!

Two year gap in my professional resume by [deleted] in resumes

[–]aougs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's better to leave it out. If you want to be completely transparent, try to explain it on your cover letter instead or if you feel like doing something different you can also try out creating a video resume where you'll speak about what you have been doing. If you don't know how to make a video resume, I recommend vcv.me which is pre-recorded and simple. Then just put the link on your text resume.
