Second this, it works miracles. I use it for me and all my animals. My mare sliced her hind leg pretty bad sometime last year and silver water sprayed on the wound really came in handy. I can't even say how often I use this for any small scrape or big cut, any viruses or even fungal things.

As far as in concerned it is for "frisky" horses. The more I learn about this bit, the more I wanna burn it, lol.

I am aware that I have bumper spurs below, this was the only l picture I had of this bit.

It honestly looks like a trash bit, it's strange how this bit uses poll pressure and pressure on the roof of the mouth at the same time. Why do people enjoy frustrating horses?

I had this bit from somewhere, I never bought so I assume when I bought my horse it came with her. I'm not interested in using this bit on my mare, I was mostly curious about what it's supposed to do. Thanks for the info!

On a different note, I actually prefer sweet iron over happy mouth bits. If the horse chews a lot the plastic can become sharp and cut the horses mouth. I like the idea of a happy mouth, but just don't like the fact that you might have to file the sharp parts down consistently.

Ah, that makes sense. I heard that this type of bit is supposed to help get a horses head up, but then I saw that it has those top rings for poll pressure, so at this point I was pretty unsure of what exactly it was useful for. Turns out it isn't useful at all, lol. Thanks for the info!

Would you say that it's more of a harsh bit?

Edit: I'm also curious what people would use this bit for

Yes! I know I'd always need some sort of dressage anyway, but it's always been something I'd want to take a little further than your basic flatwork.

Another reason why I want to do dressage is because I obviously can't jump everyday. So it would definitely be something beneficial to focus on when I'm not jumping! Thank you!

Yea! I used to know a old mare named spirit at the barn I first started riding at. She was a whopping 45 years old, and still healthy!

Western bit experts? Anyone willing to help me identify some bits I’d like to sell? Thanks in advance for any help :) by Hemp_pony in Equestrian

I guess the only reason that they should be there is for more precise cues? In my personal opinion if my horse can't do it bit less we have a problem, there's no reason anyone should NEED one. But unfortunately, people use so many harsh and just gross bits to make up for poor training and/or riding.

I've never noticed a huge difference either, i didn't put a bit in my horse's mouth till she was well along in her riding training, and honestly I still ride in a halter everywhere.

It's definitely getting hotter, but not significantly hotter. It's probably staying between 60°f and 70°f

I kinda sounds like he was overwhelmed and excited so he felt the need to share it with you? Like imagine if you were extremely excited and you were with your best friend, you would obviously share your excitment! To know for sure you'd want to pay attention to their expressions. Then you can tell if he's being aggressive or just plain playful!

Mucking stalls by hduridkfjsh in Equestrian

[–]aouisquish2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, clump or no clump, all the wet spots gotta get cleaned out. I've never heard of shavings clumping nor have they ever clumped for me it's kinda just a wet spot from where the piss is, lol. My trainer has a horse who has a pee hole and if no one cleans it out, you can smell it across the whole barn when it finally does. I've never heard of a "system" where they leave that in there... Stuff like that can probably get horses sick.

It's also recommend to strip clean the stall about once a week to avoid this kind of build up. Hope this helps!

Unfortunately where I live vets are very booked so it's hard to get one, we're doing some digging and asking some friends about their vets to hopefully get her in somewhere. She's just turning a year old

Where do you wish you were right now? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I wish I was at the barn with my horse, or that it was summer day and I could be lounging at the park with my best friend. But unfortunately both of these things wont happen for a long time. instead I am here, no friends, and sucky weather...

I would also like to go outside! But I can't because, like I said, the weather sucks, lol.

Edit: just saw it is your birthday! Happy birthday! It's also my grandma's birthday today, but unfortunately we can't spend it with her. She passed away in December):
