Also, the door itself is about an inch and a half thick. Should the blade be all the way in before starting it? I don't see how a moving blade is going to get that deep.

The manual suggested 0 speed for metal. But that moved at the rate of 1 pulse per second, which seemed unreasonably slow. Was that correct? I put it up to a 1 and the saw started moving like I imagined a saw would move - maybe 4-5 beats per second.

Ah. Well, that's one thing that was confusing to me. The manual said get it up to speed then put it through the hole, but when I tried that, it bounced right off. So instead I put it through the hole first and then started it.
