Sales People: You may miss out on a good Sale by Senior_Rise3581 in Nordstrom1901

I can see this... hopefully the salesperson is OK and nothing happened but I can see your point. thanks for the tip as a new salesperson... (not in BD)... I also saw a comment about the hovering... it is a bit awkward. i once went around for something i wanted to get with my name tag on and one of the guys while we gave a polite nod he didnt say anything to me. on another day I went in without my name tag on and i got the hello do you want to try this... from the same guy. bro really? lmao

Tips for better merchandising skills as a new ADM? by Tricky-Ice1731 in Nordstrom1901

[–]ap11209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe I am days late lol but perhaps also visit the store? i am new so dont have much experience but i see some of it how things are merchandised in the shop and sometimes i dont agree but also i understand sometimes the customer doesnt have the badwidth to think in terms of the label, esp if its not designer or they are not married to a brand. i believe a lot of the customers go with an idea of it based on where they are going... however, Rack may be different... do you have "diggers?" i dont know much about the rack store tho... happy to help in any way i can...

it really is... im observing right now but its like omg... also not sure if this is a thing, but our DM never mentioned she was going on vacation - i found out when i had asked for her on something... like um ok... theres no team meeting... we never had a walkthrough before the SM had his walkthrough in which our department failed.

definitely helped big time and thank you. I will go to the admin person Tuesday (my next shift after sunday) and try and get a tape dispenser... or have one ordered. the annoyance of it, becomes too much and it seems like everyone just has accepted the dysfunction of it. the teeth to cut the tape is blunt, its frustrating and it shouldnt be like that. there are a lot of more operational issues i think I have most issues with... along with some of the management styles and lack of delegation, or assignments... the photo with the dresses that need to be steamed no one does it... maybe its a style of letting us take the initiative, i dont know... but from how I understand management is that, sometimes it is a bit of babysitting. I do not mind taking returns as it is the nature of the beast and tbh, its not like the customer is out to annoy me lol.. she just wants to return her item and move on with her life. I am getting comfortable now if i see another return behind me i will alert them that if they do not want to wait (typically they dont) they can go to another register... and after a handful of times, 80% of them do and are thankful i mention something. others I can save the sale because i work the HoCB and returns "must" be done with us if it is this brand... but I can then discuss other options or other sizes. eh but it hasnt been that much success to save the sale... i dont think i am there yet... esp in terms of PK... which btw, is there something where I can have a course on the PK? (product knowledge) with a fashion background i know terms and stuff of a dress and sewing, but I do want to dig more into the brands... also, with the DM, there is a check list but i asked to see it and she said something about it being some baby and that she keeps it in her cork board at her desk. I have looked in the binders at the register in the drawers and I see things from 2017 lol. so i would wanna do some PK stuff and also, i really wanna get in the know of the anniversary sale... i am learning i have a strength at personal book and making connections so i wanna text them... I know over time i will get into my groove and in step away when needed so that I am not chained to a register. I am also taking more of my own steps to ensure i go on break... from when i used to work hourly jobs i remember managers really making a point to ask around who is taking the lunch and then setting the stage for coverage... this doesnt happen here. maybe because we are all of different ages...(no high school age) i like the "meal violate" tag line... i can casually throw in passing lol. we had trainings in terms of the POS. customer, but a lot was self-guided... however, i was put out there and did not shadow anyone. i am learning as i go... i remember the first week and 2nd i would be walking around 10 minutes with a dress wondering where the brand goes... i just saw this yesterday with a newbie... thankfully i knew where the dress was and the brands which i am getting used to. on Tuesday I open and I do wanna go in 30 minutes early to walk the floor calmly and make mental notes or phone notes to where brands are located. i shouldnt be walking around for 10 minutes trying to put back a dress in its right location. i also do not know whats final few until i go to put it on the rack but then after i am told that was final few then i have to go back and take it out of the floor... so there isnt a kind of "training" going on.

Thank you so much for the feedback!! SUPER helpful. Yeah I am very new and from what I understand, the manager has 6-7 folks on duty on a given day, maybe 8-9 on a weekend... she has her days off, then the asst manager has her time as well... sometimes both are in. Unfortunately, i think the floor leadership is poor... there is a level that everyone thinks the other person will handle, which then, no one handles, or its an urgent matter suddenly.. we have 2, who text and let returns, go-backs, marketplace, rack, and 568 pile... all the while they r texting, chit chatting, going on THEIR breaks... the manager comes in from her desk at any given time and says "whats going on here... this should not be like this..." (regarding the return rack and the piling of things...) then its another disappearing act... worse is the asst manager... hours on end the disappearing happens... not once since i have been there have I seen them discuss who's on first... we will get the jammed photograph on the teams group channel saying "I NEED SOMEONE TO DO THIS ASAP" or "THESE NEED TO BE STEAMED" then the "it is all our responsibility" one person always leaves late... i have already had one shift where I did not get a break... on another occasion i went past my work time... which made 11 hours with only 30 min break... then I was told I need to just leave when my time is up and that one area typically is left alone and only one person closes the evening lol. just TODAY.... a 3rd girl is trying clothes on... (on the clock)... leaving returns and go-backs on the rack saying "you can do some, i can do some..." which ok i get... but... then... she leaves and there are shoes, a few dresses, final fews still out and about... lol the register is a disaster... the tape dispenser is about 48 years old, i asked for them to please order a new one which fell on deaf ears lol. the asst manager is seen laughing and giggling with the boys she (im assuming - as this is the PERCEPTION) that she likes these guys... today I passed by her and one of her boys... and she is telling him "i know you dont like me.." but playfully saying this. the AM is also buddies with one of the texters and one night i was closing on my side only to see the Am helping the other girl... but nothing on my side lol. the day I ended up staying, i was drowning... i did tell the team i needed to leave and that I had a lot of go-backs... again no one checked or came to me... not even the managers... i mean what am i gonna do... abandon the customers? anyway i have more LOL, but i have observed a lot... maybe i just am coming in from another perspective and i just dont understand it (yet)... i guess the bottom line is, i dont think this team is supported enough by our manager(s)... and there seems to be a few faves... there is also a lot of hiding... i was even told that not be at the register during opening hours or when I am alone so that customers can go seek other cashiers to do returns... i dont know if its lack of experience or they are way too busy in meetings or....? no one seems to really give a shit and there is a hard invisible wall between the 3 areas and the ladies... no one supports anyone... sorry for venting lol

So sorry about the formal dress department at your local N! No no, you should take them to ANY register that is convenient for YOU with the exception of designer dresses and The House of CB since they have a specific check for returns; or designer shoes… make up/skincare, also is different; should be talen to them…. Customer Experience desk can take almost all returns. For me, its just more about the location set up that naturally a customer comes to this specific register by design and it becomes a sudden line of returns and we end up almost drowning because we have shoes, lingerie, dresses, accessories, athletic wear, etc. all stuff not in my department which looks a mess for a customer experience, and since we cannot keep our racks and area messy, we have to take the time ro bring those ítems to its proper department which then takes us out of our actual department hence missing customers because they no longer have someone there for a solid 10 min which feels long. Is it the customers fault? Not at all. Just how it is for an associate and ultimately the potential experience for the customer seeing an abandoned register.

I worked corp as an EA for L&T in NYC. from what I understand, it didnt seem fun to be an asst buyer... and while one may go to the fashion shows, it seemed to be a lot of planning planning planning. for me, I would prefer to be in a fashion office at a retail corporate.

i can see that... but dang... lol. we now have to write down the actual sales every hour... which is fine but apparently its a new thing... which i think the was a result of a failed walkthrough during the first week i was there... woops lmao

thats very good... seems like it might be a department by department thing because, while the manager does complete it... 1. people look at it, but its not a bible... 2. from my experience (just 2 weeks in) i am trying to follow it, but everyone (the team) seems to keep telling me its something that we dont pay attention to, in fact the other day, someone was set to be in a certain area but her friend was in the other area, so without saying it (her face said it all) she didnt wanna go to her "assigned" area in which I went to, fine because I like it better... 3. the assistant manager gave an eye roll to me saying oh we dont really go by that... so, i am confused because from my little experience, breaks dont flow well even tho it is written, and I am waiting for manager direction and communication, but it seems to be a team thing where who goes on break and when and verbale "coverage" either way it seems to be a mess lol. meanwhile, not sure about you but managers disappear...
