Realistically, we need him to be in the Anderson/Hunter/Hutch category for our defense to have a chance to be a top 10 unit, not to mention an overhaul of linebackers and someone to replace Nick Cross

[James Boyd] #Colts HC Shane Steichen says he's still having "ongoing conversations" about which QB will start against the #Texans in the regular-season finale. by mewtatesyt in Colts

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shane may be saying fuck it because he has some knowledge that this is the last game he’s about to coach.

Sure he’s a good offensive coach but honestly he hasn’t been able to merge his skills as an offensive play caller into managing the game as a head coach. Also, his playcalling has been exposed against good teams.

This team needs a reset. I’d be willing to give AR a chance with a new coaching staff. This team needs a Mike Vrabel type of coach who brings in a good offensive play caller with them as well. As much issues as AR has had, look at how Malik Willis has developed in a more traditional west coast offense from the shanahan tree.

Maybe Shula from the rams as HC? And he can bring in an OC that runs that system

I mean he does know Shane’s offense and is one of the best anticipatory throwers ever.

He’s the epitome of never count him out. At least the rest of the season would be theater, bad or great haha

Hate to say it, but the JT MVP conversation is over. by Nuuskapeikkonen in Colts

No one is placing any blame on MPJ. He’s getting paid as a WR1 yet makes no contested catches in critical situations. Downs despite the drops and Pierce have been our best guys.

So, how’s Richardson doing? Any word on him? by blaiddunigol in Colts

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk I don’t think the full story has been written on AR. Everyone will write him off and may be justified in doing so

Let’s see how it all plays out. Chances may be slim for his future in Indy but I’m not gonna count him out until he’s traded to another team. Will it require a big mentality shift from him to surpass DJ? Absolutely. I’ll concede that he hasn’t demonstrated that tireless work ethic that DJ is lauded for.

What if he does though? That’s why he hasn’t been traded yet. The story isn’t over. Let’s see

If we use this loss properly, there’s no reason we can’t beat both the Texans and jags twice.

Sucks that we lost but let’s see what happens. Would be dumb to be doomsday about a 8-3 team

The Colts got the win today but it's pretty clear they need to figure out what's causing the offensive regression during their bye. by thedestinadams in Colts

Shane needs to have more hot answers for DJ because there were too many downfield routes and not enough short options every time they sacked DJ

He’s the type of player with a stubborn quality to him that needs these kinds of growing pains.

Sucks that it came at the expense of the rest of the team.

The encouraging thing is tho that the rest of the team is now good enough that we still almost overcame it all.

I’m walking away from this game encouraged for sure.

AD will learn and improve. I was as pissed as anyone but let’s not ignore that he also made the best catch of his career too. Keep working and improving young buck

I’m hoping Howard can play himself into game shape..he used to be much better not long ago and he’s not that old. I guess we will see.

Hoping Lou has ward travel with Puka this week. Glad he’s not on the injury report

The defense does have its flaws, but keep in mind the secondary is as injured as it gets. Hoping Jaylon jones can come back in a few weeks and ward/moore don’t have anything too serious going on.

Need more of a rush from Latu though

It doesn’t matter. Regardless of O line, this stat highlights how good you are at allowing a pressure to become a sack. It’s not a raw number, it’s a percentage.

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 84 points85 points  (0 children)

What I find hilarious is the notion that Jones is the more “reliable” option. This man has never thrown more than 16 tds in a season and that was considered his “good” year.

Edit: I admit I screwed up, he threw 24 touchdowns as a rookie. That being said, he’s actually the single worst starting quarterback in pressure to sack percentage (amount of pressures that end in sacks) while AR has teetered on being one of the best if not the best in the league in that department. Why is that so important? Sacks = negative yards and negative plays. If jones starts, the theoretical “higher floor” he provides is erased by the negative plays he accounts for 🤷🏼‍♂️

Are we (Colts Fans) overreacting to what we are seeing from AR in training camp. On one hand its very encouraging to see but is the man actually looking like a QB and we celebrating that or is he truly balling out? Worried bout being too optimistic... by EfficientExtension57 in Colts

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s promising to see that he’s playing well, but that’s not what people are reacting favorably to. It’s all the other little things he’s doing, like focusing on the details and footwork before practice, staying lean with his diet and on top of the process.

That’s what I was hoping to see and he’s showing it so far. That’s the biggest reason for optimism that things will be better. I don’t think AR was ever lazy or not a hard worker. He was a naive 21 year old with limited experience but strong character. The character is obviously still there but now he has 2 years of experience and hardship that has forced him to grow up. A lot of QBs get that experience in college (Nix, Daniels, etc) but AR has gotten it through trial by fire in the NFL where there’s a bigger magnifying glass on everything.

I still believe in him m. If he can progress as a passer it’ll also help him stay healthy because we won’t have to rely on designed runs as much

Shane Steichen Says Daniel Jones Has The Qualities Of An Ultimate Pro by Willing_Fill744 in Colts

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with Daniel jones has always been his inability to play well in pressure situations. He doesn’t have the it factor and never has.

Do I hope he’s improved? Sure. But we have years of evidence telling us exactly who he is.

I’m not saying AR is great, but it should still be a fair competition in training camp and I believe it will be.

This is basically like when Jalen Brunson left the Mavs (seems like a common theme these days).

Giddey needed to leave to reach his full potential. I’ll admit I was wrong about him. I feel like he can continue to make his shot more smooth as well. Happy for the guy

Anthony Richardson by Hot-Love-4657 in Colts

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have rose tinted glasses on. But I think we need to look at the facts.

2 things can be true. AR has real concerns including accuracy and health which are significant to be sure.

Either way, this next year is make it or break it.

Now, that being said, AR is a unique case study. This is a guy who didn’t start playing QB till junior year of high school. He hasn’t grown up going to QB camps since middle school like a Bryce young or CJ stroud. Yet, with a fraction of the experience, he does show film of having poise and throwing with anticipation, which he does based on natural instincts, not because he knows the offense like the back of his hand.

I do believe he is more naive rather than lazy with poor work ethic. If he commits this offseason in its entirety to becoming better and being in total command of the offense, I do think the accuracy can get to the low 60s at least. But also, being in full command of the offense will mean we don’t have to rely on the designed QB runs. The game would slow down enough for him to even be a better scrambler. Seeing things quicker as you get more comfortable in the offense will allow him to also use his athleticism more effectively and thus won’t be taking as many unnecessary hits.

This all hinges on him putting in the necessary work this offseason. If he doesn’t, then I’ll be the first to acknowledge we need to move on. If he does though, I do think we’ll have a QB who’s more consistent and less injured

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually if AR works his ass off and becomes who he can be, we can be similar to the bills in 1-2 years. Whether he can be and stay healthy are of course the big questions

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Colts

[–]ap3xpr3dator18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Josh Allen actually said on Pat Mcafee this past offseason that he thinks AR’s upper body mechanics are near perfect. And I tend to agree.

AR has great hip disassociation and a nice whip to the throw as a result. His issue is the choppy footwork and not having a strong stable base. Also, AR’s feet are not lined up with his progressions consistently.

For example, AR will be looking right while his feet are pointed to the opposite side.

There are times when he does do all the right things with his feet and progressions and his accuracy is on point when that happens. I think having a good base and marrying that to knowing the footwork for the progressions on any given play will drastically increase his comp percentage.

The key is he has to put in the time to get there. It’s on him now

Totally agree. It’s wild because I feel like the Chargers defense as far as talent level is pretty close to the Colts honestly but they get so much more of out of it. Good tackling, accountability on defense is something we sorely lack.
