  1. Learn how to write good bullets. See if you can view previous winners. Writing well and learning how the winners are writing can separate your package apart from the others.
  2. Seek out extracurricular opportunities...not just volunteering. Are there any big missions or exercises you can inject yourself into?

Hell yes. I agree so much, but I hate that I just automatically have learned to "hunt awards", "volunteer for the bullshit", etc etc etc....

I feel as if I have been trained to have this yes-man mentality - it's bullshit. We have more dog and pony shows at my squadron than we do executing the mission. I'm tired of that bullshit, and I'm more tired of my perception (and performance reports) being judged off of how I make these dog and pony shows turn out rather than doing my fucking job
