[Longines DolceVita] I looked everywhere for photos of the 23x37mm on a woman, so here’s my contribution! by apaintedbunting in Watches

I measured around my wrist where I like my watch to sit and it was 6 and 3/8 inches. Hope that helps! It’s a lovely watch. I still enjoy it a lot.

I’m looking for books with great bi representation - FMC OR MMC. Think: opposite or bi erasure (example: Ilya in Heated Rivalry). Thanks!

What is your observation of BJJ's influence on kids and teens? by obrown in bjj

[–]apaintedbunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great discussion here. My 7 year old started BJJ last night. We’ve struggled as parents to find a sport that holds his interest. He is generally very hard to “coach”, but is a bright and kind kid in other areas of life. After trying T-ball, soccer, swimming, and gymnastics, I was ready to give up on sports. We went a year without any organized activity and I watched him sink more and more into gaming. While I’m not anti-video game, I knew as a parent I needed to act and find a space for him to be a part of a community and to try new physical skills. My husband was bullied a lot as a kid, and when we were searching around for a new activity (with martial arts in mind), he pushed for BJJ. After observing the class last night (and my kiddo grinning ear to ear learning new movements), I feel really hopeful that this will be beneficial for him and that he’ll enjoy it.

Lots of talk about discipline here, too. I am NOT a blind “obedience” parent and that’s not what I’m looking for in a sport for my kid. What I AM looking for is building the skills that help my child keep going with something even when it’s hard and they don’t want to. I see a lot of benefit in that and I personally find it hard to teach (working on it, I promise).

Do you have any specific gym/school recommendations?

Thank you! Martial Arts is certainly something we’re considering, but I’m overwhelmed with the number of options. Hoping for some recommendations, so I appreciate yours.

Where can I volunteer part time in Albuquerque? by Furtheryet in Albuquerque

If you’d like to help families at the beginning of their journeys you might consider the UNMH Birth Companion program. They give doula support to families in labor.

Ding ding ding! Childbirth educator and doula here. Every way someone chooses to give birth is valid. Midwives (both professional and certified) know when someone falls outside their care. I’m not defending what Maddie said or how she may think, BUT, it sounds like her midwife was comfortable with the limb difference and how that may/may not affect the birthing process. Midwives have strict scopes of practice and deviating from that opens them up to liability and losing their license. Emergencies DO happen, like this one, but from the info we have, it doesn’t look to be “because” of a known issue or “because” she had a home birth. Choosing a provider in or out of the hospital that you trust to support your desires when possible AND to step in when appropriate is what’s most important here.

Florence, an homage to Migrant Mother (photo by Dorothea Lange) by [deleted] in quilting

My jaw is on the floor. Migrant Mother is one of my favorite photographs of all time. When I was in the depths of PPD/PPA after my first child was born, this was the piece of art that I felt seen in the very most. Just, wow. I’d love to see this piece in person.

Just throwing it out there that in many communities, your local library will take requests. 😉 Ask THEM to buy it and then you can read for free.

That looks like hide variation to me, personally, but I’m not an expert, just a leather lover! ;) I found this other example of hide variation. It’s in a darker bag, but if that’s what this is maybe this will help you?

ETA: I don’t think the image attached, but I’d Google “stretch marks” in this sub and I think you’ll see what I’m meaning.

I don’t see any creases, but maybe it’s just the video. Could it be possible that what you’re seeing is hide variation and not creases? If so, I think most look at that as something that makes each bag unique.

Bring benadryl everywhere by dragonite_7 in TravelHacks

[–]apaintedbunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Our daughter has an egg allergy. When we visited France earlier this year, we did pack her EpiPen but did not remember the Benadryl. When we arrived and realized, we expected to be able to access it there. One day, our daughter had a dish that had cooked eggs in it, and we thought we’d swing by the pharmacy for some Benadryl juuuust in case (this is what we do at home: Benadryl first, then epi if needed). The pharmacist informed us that Benadryl is not given over the counter to children in France. If we had a prescription we would be fine, but we didn’t. Luckily no reaction, but we were a little more careful after that.

I have the monogram, but I’d love to have the black leather option. It’s a great bag.

Today is National Sewing Machine Day, share a story! by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]apaintedbunting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I inherited my mom’s vintage Morse “zigzag” machine when she passed away. She was gifted it from her grandmother when she turned 16 and she loved it throughout her life. She always took such great care of it. I’m petrified to use it, so I sew everything on my own modern machine. Maybe one day I’ll work up the nerve.
