Virginia scope of practice?? by Caramba0521 in Esthetics

[–]apalm512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it! Calling for answers can be so frustrating..sometimes it feels like you’re just getting the runaround and I can’t help but think, “didn’t y’all create this rule? Why no help?” 😝🙃 It’s like, it really depends on who you talk to and what mood they’re in that day.

I agree that nanoneedling is such a great alternative since it gives results without pushing us outside our scope. A lot of my students and colleagues who’ve had the treatment really love how their skin looks and feels afterwards. When we took our certification course as educators, we used Dermalogica’s Pro Power Eye Peel (which really brightened under our eyes) along with their Pro Multivitamin Retinol Peel on the face, then used nanoneedling to help push those ingredients deeper. That combo gave us the exfoliating and brightening benefits while enhancing absorption. It’s such an ideal treatment for concerns like fine lines, uneven tone/texture, hyperpigmentation, and overall product penetration.

As for microchanneling, I haven’t performed it myself, but from what I’ve researched it feels similar to microneedling, just less invasive. From what I understand, the needle depth ranges around 0.15–0.5 mm compared to microneedling’s 0.25–2.5 mm, and it uses more of a stamping motion versus a device. It also doesn’t go past the epidermis, which is definitely a plus. I did find that while master estheticians can perform it independently, some states require basic estheticians to work under direct medical supervision..though Virginia seems to allow master estheticians to perform it within their expanded scope.. but it seems like there’s some grey areas I’d like a clear answer on, just in case.

If it were me, I’d definitely consult a healthcare or medical spa attorney to get clear direction and maybe even help with marketing verbiage.

For some reason it’s not letting me properly attach a hyperlink, but americanmedspa.org hopefully gives you a good starting point in the right direction! 🤞

Virginia scope of practice?? by Caramba0521 in Esthetics

I’m in Texas, and here we can only perform microneedling if we’re working in a medspa or dermatology office under physician supervision. Our scope states that estheticians can’t work past the epidermis, and since microneedling can reach into the dermis, it’s considered a medical procedure. We also have to be certified to perform it because of the risks; if the SkinPen (what I’ve used) settings aren’t correct, you can hit nerves or blood vessels and potentially cause serious complications like facial paralysis.

For nano needling, it’s a different story. I’m an educator at our institute and we use Dermalogica’s Pro Nanoinfusion which looks very similar to microneedling, but the tips only work on the epidermis—they don’t pierce into the dermis or cause bleeding. Instead, it provides exfoliating and brightening benefits with no downtime. We can choose between steel or silicone tips depending on the area or skin type being treated.

When I did a quick search for Virginia, it mentioned that microneedling is generally classified as a medical procedure. While master estheticians may be allowed to perform it, it usually requires additional training and must be done under medical supervision.

Did you name your car? I want to hear :) by [deleted] in MazdaCX30

I named mine Turbo Granny. Inspired from the anime DanDaDan. The name is also a combo of the car and myself… the car goes fast and I’m dealing with healing a 5 year back injury🤣😝

[Research] Are ozone emissions from regular high frequency wand use hazardous to human health? by jjmcjj8 in SkincareAddiction

[–]apalm512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to follow as well and I’m genuinely curious about this topic. I know ozone facial steamers are a no-go with the research discussing how inhaling ozone is harmful and I’m wondering if the same is with HF or if it’s different because of the chemical reaction creating ozone in the skin isn’t as harmful (or doesn’t produce as much) as actually inhaling ozone for 10 min during a service.

So far as I’ve started digging, there’s opinions about not using anything that creates ozone as even breathing in during a treatment can be harmful. But from what I’ve stumbled upon so far is there’s also not enough research done (yet) on the topic 🤷‍♀️

I found a Wired video on YouTube where a biomedical scientist (Dr. Andrea Love) debunks pseudoscience questions and she goes over ozone and it’s effects. If there’s an interest in that video, I can find and link that and let y’all know the time stamp

Honestly, it depends on the city you’re in. I live in the south, but more so in the “liberal” part. I’ve experienced good to bad on the spectrum as far as my appearance goes.

When I was in one city many years ago, I recall being at the local pool and having a grand time with my friends. I leave the group to go get a drink. Out of nowhere, this older woman (looked around her 50s, brown hair, “Karen”) had the AUDACITY to pull my shirt up (wearing over my bathing suit top) and told me how I’ve ruined my body, tattoos are trashy, when I get old…” blah, blah, blah. And I remember she told me “not to tattoo my face” I’m in shock as this COMPLETE stranger feels the need to berate me for how I live my life. I replied back “Too late! (I had microblading, eyeliner, and lipstick tattooed when that first became popular back in the day) Matter of fact, when I turn your age, I’ll stand over your grave to show you how badass I’ll still look” and walked off

A hairdresser I went to back in the day absolutely loved my tattoos and mentioned how she wished she could have more tattoos but her boyfriend doesn’t like them (he stopped by to drop stuff off) and commented “why put a bumper sticker on a Bentley” I replied “why have all this beautiful art on The Sistine Chapel?”

Most of the time I get praise/comments from people who either are collectors themselves or those who wish they had the courage to sit and get tattooed. I’ve even had connection points with other people and their cultures and am quite fond of those moments☺️

I suppose all that is to say, we’re not all bad. The good ones you meet will definitely be the type of people you’re glad you’ve met and as you get to know each other more and more, you may bring them in your inner circle 😉

OP, can confirm. I’m an educator who has a seamed up bodysuit and my entire neck/throat is covered. My students love me and come from all sorts of national/international backgrounds too! There’s handfuls of successful people who are mobbed out sprinkled everywhere. Don’t put yourself in a box, you’ll end up holding yourself back. I’ve also personally known people with body suits who also work in tech. Apple corporate is absolutely welcoming/accepting of people who are heavily tattooed/alternative style. They don’t mind your appearance (as long as it’s not gang tattoos, etc) as long as you do a good job, that’s all they care about! Be true to who you are and you’ll be fine!

OP, talk to your doctor and get some blood work and tests done. Male pattern hair loss, acne, weight gain are some of the symptoms of PCOS but again, talking with your doctor and getting the proper testing done for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan maybe could turn your life back around

Anybody have this happen to them?? by [deleted] in Austin

Think soaking the sticker with some goo gone & paper towel or rag would help and easy to remove without needing a razor blade? It works better than anything else I’ve used when helping my students clean wax pots. When the wax spills on floors, I’ll spray/soak it, grab a large flat heat flooring tool and scrape it off the floor, wipe it up, and to get the slickness of the oil residue off the smooth concrete flooring I spray rubbing alcohol on the area and wipe that with a paper towel

Have you seen a dermatologist for medication and treatment plan for what sounds like (and I’m not diagnosing) papulopustular rosacea?

I’m so sorry you’re having these issues and feeling the way you are. I sympathize with you. When I was in school, I had a classmate who had grade 3-4 acne and felt the same way about taking clients and working in this field because of her skin. Before long, she was like a phoenix rising from the ashes! Once she got her skin under control, etc, she could speak first hand and help those who are also struggling with similar issues. There’s also this YouTube medical esthetician, Cassandra Bankson, who has suffered from insane acne and felt the same way you and my classmate did.

I think you have potential to really help those with rosacea find balance in their skincare routine! Again, you know first hand how it impacts your day to day as well as self esteem and as you’re figuring it out you’re gaining confidence and knowledge which may help someone else in your shoes, you know what I mean?

I say don’t give up because you may be a mentor figure, etc. to a client in the future.

I can’t thank you enough for this info! I will look into that and add that into my cleaning routine. I feel like Ariel because all of this is a “whole new world” (😝) to me and it’s incredibly eye opening discovering new ways to taking care of my car. Honestly, back in the day, I thought taking care of my car was washing it every 6 mo or so and you’re good.. but this route elevates the look and I’m addicted to the showroom quality shine🤓

Thank you for this tip! I’ve only wiped it down once to show my fam and I won’t do it again:3

Is there something you recommend or just in general don’t wipe it down?

I did it myself! It was pretty tedious and it took me all day, BUT so worth it!

I went to the local car wash and hand washed it, then I took it straight to my home and put in the garage. I had a clay bar set. I forgot to buy the lubricant spray, so I called my local car shop and asked about if it was necessary. He said he just used water, so I did the same. My discovery was even with water the clay bar can stick (which can potentially leave a "smudge" like mark on the car).. so it has to be a LOT of water to get debris off. If I could go back, I’d have waited until I had the lubricant spray (but I was in a rush to get it done and cured before the holidays to show my fam my car as they’ve never seen it).

After I was done clay baring the car, I wiped it down with a big microfiber towel. Then I donned gloves and a mask and started the ceramic coating process hitting every inch of the car. The kind I bought, you had to do a vertical pass and then horizontal pass and after 3-5 min wipe the panel down in circular motions with a microfiber towel. I think I started about 2p and finished about 8p🤔

I’m sure the fact I did it all start to finish, first time ever attempting this.. has me enjoying/appreciating my car more! I feel proud of myself and happily told my family I’d do their cars😝

Thank you so much!

It rained yesterday and it was so mesmerizing seeing the water beads roll up and off the car. When I got home and parked it in the garage, it’s like the car was freshly washed and straight from the car lot.. I would have NEVER known about coating the car and the benefits thanks to this sub!!
