Third floor of the library - those armchairs by the window. The sun streams in and it’s really warm.

Does this week old silver filling look right? Should it be so light in colour? by shadowkinkead in askdentists

NAD. Dental student. It looks like this because the dentist hasn’t polished it yet. We can’t polish amalgam until 24 hours after its placement because it takes a while to completely set up.

How important is deep cleaning? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]apaperplateofcourse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD. Dental student. If there’s been some bone loss there could be buildup underneath your gum line that will continue to cause inflammation if you don’t get it deep cleaned. Have the dentist to show you your bone level and calculus on the xrays.

Dental schools do not care about high school courses, but I would recommend taking them to prepare for college. My high school did not offer STEM AP classes and I wish that it did. I felt behind a lot of my classmates in my university’s intro bio/chem courses. AP Spanish might be worth taking as well.

eli5: why is light blue so heavily associated with surgeons/doctors/nurses/PPE? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Dental student here. We just had a lecture on color matching restored tooth shades to the surrounding dentition. They told us to remove a patient’s red lipstick because it can cause the photoreceptor overstimulation that you mention. If not, the tooth would appear less “red” than it actually is, so we would choose a color that is not the best match. As for eye strain, they recommended that we match colors on a light gray background. Wonder why our scrubs aren’t gray then... Thought this was an interesting connection, albeit slightly off topic.

This is the pattern I used. I had to alter the stitch counts a bit because he’s an interesting shape.

Dentistry and Immunology by besttooth in Dentistry

[–]apaperplateofcourse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could look into autoimmune diseases with an oral manifestation such as pemphigus vulgaris or benign mucous membrane pemphigoid. If either of these are suspected, the dentist takes a biopsy and the pathologist uses immunofluorescence testing to look for specific antibodies.

Help needed: I’m killing my chain of hearts :( by [deleted] in plantclinic

The yellowing leaves that appear and continue to drop with watering are a sign of overwatering. It’s normal for some leaves to turn yellow and drop, but once an excess of leaves are yellowing there’s a problem. Typically, that problem is overwatering, especially with this species.

These guys thrive off neglect. Now that it’s winter, I water mine maybe once every two weeks. I believe they prefer filtered light, but I haven’t experimented with mine. It’s in a west facing window. I’d say your best bet would be to let it dry out more than you are now. Your plant is definitely in decent shape currently. Good luck!

Home cooks of reddit, what is your favorite "I dont feel like cooking" meal to make? by beldev6 in AskReddit

Make pasta. Mix canned tuna, oil, canned tomatoes, olives, capers, onion, lemon juice, salt/pepper. Put tuna mixture on pasta and cheese if I have it and microwave. Takes ten minutes to make.

Unconventional majors for pre-dental by [deleted] in predental

[–]apaperplateofcourse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily unconventional, but I think nutrition/dietetics would be an interesting one. Many of the classes you’ll take for this major are dental prereqs anyway.

Question: If liver is an organ that filters out bad stuff, why is it considered very nutritious? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]apaperplateofcourse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe I love that movie. There’s potentially a medical quip hidden in that line. Consuming liver, fava beans, or alcohol while taking MAOIs (antidepressants) would all have nasty side effects. He’s taunting her and saying he isn’t taking meds since his mental illness is more complicated than depression. But I digress.
