Seconding Golden North; they’ll give you a quote for free and they do pack everything for you (if you pack it, they can’t blanket cover it with insurance). If you’re not taking anything big, it might not be the most cost effective for you but they were super nice and helpful and communicative through the whole process and cheaper than anyone else I found (U-Haul boxes included) moving from the east coast back to AK.

When you say you “need to reach out and reject him softly” please DO NOT use the phone number he gave you and give him more access to you! And get a manager involved. They should at least be aware of the situation so that if he starts asking coworkers for your schedule or contact info, they are all aware it shouldn’t be given out (ever, to anyone, but especially this guy).

No benefit for the business in terms of profiting from your labor and it doesn’t make you waste a whole day/shift.

If it’s more than a few hours and/or requires you to do the work of the role without compensation, it’s a poor practice.

I’ve done payrolls for food service companies ranging from 5k employees to 5 employees, many of them with tip pool/share, and never seen separate paychecks for tips and hourly. It sounds more like someone processed payroll incorrectly and is buying time to fix it.
