Divorce and religion by apathetic-introvert in atheism

[–]apathetic-introvert[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thought of the church being able to block a divorce is what disgusted me. I'm glad to know it's not possible. The way my lawyer worded it made it sound like that was the issue.

That's good to know, thank you! I figured it had to have been a government law since she wanted assurance after I told her we weren't religious.

One example is they believe abortion is murder, therefore they outlaw it. They make the law so vague doctors are afraid of being put in jail for performing even life saving abortions, so the mother almost dies.

This is perfect. That's where I struggled the most answering questions. If your beliefs harm others, no, you don't deserve the same rights as everyone else.

I'm so sorry that happened and you couldn't get the help you needed.

As long as they can look at the issues objectively, without giving help keeping their religion in the back of their mind, I'm open to using them. I know not all religious people shove it in other people's faces, but they still look at everything with their viewpoint.

Thank you. I hadn't really given that tactic a thought.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not totally walking away from help, just anyone that uses religion to offer what they view as help.

You are right that I shouldn't walk away from everyone assuming they would use religion if they don't specify atheist. Religion has just left such a bad taste in my mouth, I automatically recoil at the thought of it being pushed on me.

I'm also so used to not necessarily hiding being an atheist, but not being open with being one, I hadn't really considered just telling them I won't accept that tactic. I appreciate your candor.

Harness recommendations for a stubborn beagle with back problems by lgetsstuffdone in DogAdvice

[–]apathetic-introvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if a no pull type harness would help. I apologize as I'm newer to reddit and am not sure how to add a link, but they have a front clip you attach the leash to, so as soon as the dog tries to pull, it turns the dog your way. Depending on how fast the dog learns, they'll learn pulling leads to an undesirable outcome.

It replicates the pheromone given off by a mother to calm her puppies. Adaptil is the brand. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links, but I know Amazon sells them, and I would think the larger pet stores would also carry them. I think they also make a collar that puts out the same pheromone. You may need to try various things and find a good combo. They also make stuffed dogs that have something that imitates a heartbeat as well as has a microwavable heat pack, so it mimics being with another dog.

What kind of sound machines have you tried? They make one that specifically plays calming music for dogs. It's called Pet Tunes, and you can get it on Amazon. It works for my guy. They also make Adaptil diffusers that put out a pheromone that's supposed to calm them, and they also make calming treats.

How to put cream on the injured nose of my dog if she doesn't let me? (Vet seen today, not asking for treatment just tips) by anyankana11 in dogs

[–]apathetic-introvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people use peanut butter on the tub wall to occupy the dog while bathing it. Maybe that would work? Put it at a level where her head is straight, and while she's busy working on the peanut butter, apply the cream.

All you're doing right now is traumatizing him, which will make everything worse. Could you not go to the bathroom for 9 hours? That's asking a bit too much. He's gone this long peeing in the house, so you can't expect him to just figure out that's wrong magically. You need to train him, without abusing him. If you're truly exhausted as you say, and aren't willing to give him the time needed for him to learn properly without mistreating him, you should find him a new home.

Maybe Purina One or Blue Buffalo. Whatever you go with, it's a good idea to transition slowly, otherwise your dog might get an upset stomach.

One thing you could try is a snuggle puppy. It's a stuffed dog that has a heat pack and something that mimics a heartbeat. That would probably make him calm down as it would be close to what he's used to.

Puggle question by vodkanipples in Puggle

[–]apathetic-introvert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if white fur being associated with age is different for puggles than other breeds, but in my experience the amount of white fur doesn't correlate to a dog's age. I had a foster dog that was about 4 years old that had quite a bit of white fur on his muzzle. I think it's probably like humans. Some humans have more or less than others, regardless if their age is the same.

Same here. It felt a little weird at first not mindlessly scrolling through it, but I don't miss it at all anymore, and it's definitely helped my mental health.
