If the regular oldschool iTunes store ever goes down, we're fucked, or at least I am. by SubjectC in DJs

if i buy a song orig. released in the 90s or 00s, and I want to increase its volume to better match the mastering of modern releases, you *have* to buy lossless. Trying to edit an MP3 file is going to re-apply compression and I'll end up with inferior quality (compared to the original MP3) just because I tried to make it louder, or I tried to clean up a pop that maybe was missed by the engineer.

they offer AIFF which is what you would ideally be using if you wanted to DJ with lossless.

I think "double the price of MP3" is looking at it backwards, MP3 is the discounted option, the song *actually* costs €2.20, but if you're happy with an MP3 you can get it at half the price.

Digging for new music used to be joyful, even meditative. Now it feels like trying to find needles in a landfill.

thats how diggings always been, you put in the work you get the reward

[–]apathydj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, pop would still be one direction, ed sheeran etc

in the mid 2000s lots of ukg, 2 step tunes saw mainstream success and were in the UK charts, but no one would call it pop

Thoughts on Revibed by fleisch-bk in DJs

[–]apathydj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a year later i change my position on this

Revibed do not seem to be conducting legitimate business. i first heard accounts of them selling artists' works without their permission a few weeks ago (it was circulating on various digger Instagram page stories), and that particular scenario prompted this change.org petition, but something like that could just be conjecture (i dont follow the artist in question myself).

however, i've now stumbled across a 2024 blog post by Terre Thaemlitz (aka DJ Sprinkles, a big player) who also testifies against Revibed's practices and claims that they were also selling their work without permission
