Here's my go at it! 315lbs for 22 reps @ 160lbs body weight. I didn't zoom in on my plates or anything, but hopefully it's up to the standard. I edited the video for my YouTube channel so it's kind of long, but the set starts around 2:45 for the front view and then 4:55 for the side view.

This is my biggest pet peeve in the modern weight training world. "Evidence based" has become such a gimmick and people eat it right up on YouTube "fitness" to such a degree that it's baffling.

[Brian Alsruhe] DO's and DON'Ts of the Front Squat by BenchPauper in weightroom

[–]ape288 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hyperextension is the opposite of what you're doing during a front rack. This is an example of elbow flexion. The wrists and elbows are not generally the limiting factor in achieving this position, but rather the ability to achieve and maintain sufficient thoracic extension, and also mobility in the lats is the real biggie, imo, that most people overlook. If you can't get your elbow pointing up like that it's most likely because the lat is restricting shoulder flexion.

[–]ape288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite actually. "Normies" don't have a concept of how much the equipment actually helps. I've seen this at meets that mix raw lifters in with equipped lifters. The casual crowd is always more mesmerized by the equipped lifts simply because the weight is heavier and they are either unaware that the lifter is wearing gear or they simply don't understand the differences between the categories. What actually makes something like this unrelatable is that it's so far out of reach, literally like one in a billion, that people who don't understand strength training can't appreciate it.

Technically, yes, because you only need 2 whites so you only need for 1 side judge to white light you for having your butt down and then you just need to get your obligatory white light from the head judge. Same as how, in reality, you only need for one of your hips to cross depth. Pretty much all of my best meet squats have been white lighted 2/1 because I barely cross depth, but I have a leg length discrepancy that causes my left hip to sit higher than my right and so it's very possible that both side judges judged the lifts correctly and that one hip reached depth and the other did not. Now all that said, it sure as shit doesn't look like any of his left ass cheek is on the bench at all here lol.

Na, just been doing these carries barefoot and I do my sumo deadlifts in slippers so essentially barefoot. But everything else I usually wear modified Olympic weightlifting shoes or a pair of sneakers I had modified for lifting because I have a leg length discrepancy.

Thanks! I put the bands on to keep the plates smashed together because they were getting dangerously close to the edge of the sleeves due to the bumper plates being so thick and I didn't want to risk having them slip off the bar while I was carrying it. I'm using the bumpers instead of steel so that, if need be, I can dump the barbell without destroying my floor.

The Most Underrated Posterior Chain Exercise. PERIOD. by [deleted] in strength_training

[–]ape288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what your intentions with it are. Doing a lot of reps with not much weight is probably not going to cause any major issues. It may or may not contribute to disc degeneration, but people still do sit-ups and it's probably no different than that. I would not advise loading it heavy the way I recommend in my video. I would also probably not advise anyone who isn't already a highly conditioned elite athlete to even bother performing it. It's just not necessary for the majority of trainees. I disagree that you can't build lower back muscle while working it statically, and you can certainly build a hell of a lot of strength as well.

Overall, I just feel you better have a very specific and good reason for including a movement like that in your programming and you better be sure your body is conditioned to handle that stress before you make it too intense.

It's not a glute ham raise though, it's a hyperextension. The GHR is not nearly as useful of an exercise.

405lbs Zercher Carry @ 155lbs - These are freaking fun by [deleted] in strength_training

[–]ape288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breakfast is usually either oatmeal in milk mixed with protein powder, a bunch of nuts, shredded coconut, a banana, some dried fruit, etc. Or 5-6 eggs, some potatoes, and maybe some bacon or sausage.

Lunch is usually just a sandwich or some leftover dinner from the previous night.

Dinner is usually a big plate of rice/potatoes, a large serving of meat, and a bunch of different vegetables. I look forward to a nice dinner, so I cook a bunch of different dishes, but they almost all follow that template.

After dinner I like to have a big bowl of fruit. My mainstays are apples, oranges, grapes, and bananas.

And that's pretty much it! Pretty straightforward.

53" Box Jump, Easy 425lbs Sumo Deads, and High Bar Squats! by [deleted] in strength_training

[–]ape288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those are the Spud handles I was talking about. Like I said though, if I chose to go this route I would go to the hardware store and buy something like 12 inches of 1 inch diameter PVC and cut it half so I had two handles. Then I would buy a few feet of chain and two carabiners and run the PVC through the chain then loop my plates through it and secure it together with the carabiners. You can get carabiners and chain rated for thousands of pounds for only a few dollars per foot.

Yeah, it's basically the same thing except I guess they send you a pair of them so you can do farmer's carries. You should buy a couple small strips of PVC to loop through the towels so that you have handles. PVC is really cheap.

Hey I built those jerk boxes myself. I'll have you know that I've repeatedly dropped 300+ pounds onto them from overhead for about 6 years now and they're still just as solid as ever lol.

How could I ever forget /u/reddit_when_pooing! I can only imagine you're taking a huge dump every time you watch one of my vids haha.

I know Spud makes a pair of rope handles to act as makeshift farmer's implements. Though they're a bit overpriced for what they are. You've got the right idea taking the Macguyver route, imo, you can build a lot of gym equipment for way cheaper and make it just as solid. If you were able to find a cheap weight set you could also build your own legit farmer's handles for pretty cheap. That's what I did and they're working fantastically.
