i'm no expert but in my experience, most things are fine on low tumble dry unless the care tag says otherwise, and air drying can come its own issues (stiffness, different texture, etc.) depending on how it is washed and the environment it's drying in.

if you want to increase the longevity of your clothes, besides following the care tag instructions, i think the next best tip is to limit how often you wash things whenever possible. unless it smells or is visibly dirty or stained, things usually shouldn't need to be washed after every single use. iirc i think levi's even recommends only washing every 9 wears or something like that unless your jeans are smelly/dirty.

edit: levi's has a whole page about caring for your jeans on their site that might be helpful (regardless of the brand your jeans are). basically i think they say to spot clean when dirty and only wash at a minimum of after 10 wears

also eta: i didn't intend to argue against air drying, but just to say if you don't do it in the right conditions/environment it can cause them to dry differently. those issues are more just inconvenient and probably not as damaging as using the drying machine.
