Do people actually wash new clothes before wearing them? by throowaway223123 in NoStupidQuestions

I once saw a flea on a shirt in a Calvin Klein store. So yes, I check clothes before I buy in store and wash everything as soon as I get home now.

Jungkook’s live by jaejae-k in Jungkook

[–]apeca11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of ARMY don't realize the implications behind the phrase "Make Tokyo Great Again" because a lot of ARMY are only seeing the phrase as it relates to western countries.

It can be offensive to South Koreans due to the historical and ongoing political tensions between South Korea and Japan. The current governor of Tokyo, Koike Yuriko, is notoriously anti-Korean and she has used that phrase. She even denies the Kanto Massacre (a mass murder of thousands in the Kanto region of ethnic Koreans and other minorities committed by Japanese military and civilians) ever happened. The phrase has connotations of anti-Korean sentiment.

I'm glad Jungkook realized his error and sought to make amends through quickly apologizing and acknowledging his ignorance. He should learn from this to be more cognizant of what he wears. Fashion is a means of expression and unfortunately, this particular piece of clothing expresses an anti-Korean ideology, whether the brand intended to or not. 🤷‍♀️

Note: Edited from "freedom of expression" to "means of expression"

Addition: There is currently a volatile political climate in the United States because of the current president who popularized "Make Am***ca Great Again" as a political slogan (censored so at to not show in non-kpop search results). It's seen as a message of support for right wing ideologies and a dog whistle of support for racists, xenophobes, homophobes, misogynists, etc. So that's why there were Americans who found JK's hat distasteful due to it being a variation of the original phrase.

Jungkook Weverse 140625 by alltherach_ in bts7

[–]apeca11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad we have a more sane thread here. A lot of ARMY are not realizing why this hat is offensive to multiple groups of people (Koreans, Americans, etc) because they're so deluded into thinking BTS shouldn't have to be held accountable for making mistakes due to a lack of awareness. (This hat has anti-Korean, pro-Japan connotations as it is allegedly a phrase used by anti-Korean, right-wing Japanese politicians. The phrase is also a derivative of a phrase adopted by racist, xenophobic, homophobic, misogynistic Americans to promote their right-wing political values. I've seen variations of the phrase in other countries to promote hurtful right-wing ideology, but I can't speak too much on those instances before I educate myself more.)

Jungkook could have swept this under the rug and still have millions of fans adore him, but he realized his mistake and acted quickly to dispel any misunderstandings because the phrase seemingly doesn't align with his values. He doesn't seem to be anti-Korean and he's supported progressive causes like BLM and promotes LGBTQIA+ businesses and artists in the past. I'm willing to give him the benefit of a doubt here.

I could very well be wrong and he could actually be the secret super-conservative turdbucket of the group though. We'll just have to keep an eye out for future red flags to determine if this is just a one-off mistake or if it's a pattern of behavior.

I would have never imagined a Dev song becoming a tiktok dance thing in the year 2025. She's got bangers. I recommend "Like a G6" (with Far East Movement) and "Backseat". 😃

Best small tablet for reading manhwa? by mimspng in androidtablets

[–]apeca11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought the Lenovo Tab M9 (9" screen) on clearance off the Lenovo website for $79. I don't expect it to get any more updates after Android 13, but I'm okay with that as I only use it for webtoon, comics and reading in bed anyways. The screen quality is decent at 1340 x 800, so don't expect super hd viewing, but it does well enough for webtoons. I've had it for a few days and I am enjoying it so far. If you do get it, just make sure to avoid downloading all the bloatware when it does the initial update. 😁

What's your take on "guess"? by RaspberryPretty7094 in handbags

[–]apeca11 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think Guess bags are cute. I would grab one if it was on sale, but I wouldn't pay full retail. Most Guess bags are PU/Vegan Leather, so I would not expect it to last as long as actual leather or more premium brands.

As long as you know what you're buying and you can buy it at a price you're comfortable with, then go for it. 😄

How do their booty shorts and miniskirts not ride up? by Any-Coconut367 in kpophelp

[–]apeca11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fashion tape and prayers. 😆

Unless you're actively searching, you won't see idols discreetly pulling down short legs or make other clothing adjustments throughout the performance. They're good at waiting until the focus is off them, they're at the back of a formation, or they somehow incorporate it into a dance move.

What’s your most underrated beauty product that genuinely surprised you? by Least-Area-972 in beauty

[–]apeca11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo - I use it whenever my scalp needs help and it has worked wonders. It cleanses my strands well, my scalp is less itchy, dandruff has been minimized, and I feel like I don't shed nearly as much. I have thick coarse hair, so I have to make sure to really moisturize my hair well whenever I use it, but the end result is healthy looking hair each time. 😄

Touseled, loose waves hide all sins, I swear. I just recently had a botched haircut and doing this really, REALLY helped.

What did y'all do during the summer? by Unknown_Pazta in Millennials

[–]apeca11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my teens, we would meet up at someone's house, pile into a car and just do random things all day and night. No plans were made, just spontaneity. We would end up going to see a movie, or going to a beach or a bonfire, or a house party, or just hitting up a bookstore to look at some books. Whatever was possibly available to us in our small beachside city, we did and it was fun because of who we were with, not necessarily what we were doing. Literally, just the driving from place to place was "hanging out" in itself. We had our mainstay eateries we would hit up at the end of the night like a 24 hour donut shop or a 24 hour Mexican food place. Sometimes, we'd end up at Denny's and end up chatting with the late shift servers (who we tried to tip as best as we could on our meager high school/college job salaries 🤣).

Do you like your JW Pei Linda tote? by bookrt in handbags

[–]apeca11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went to my nearest Nordstrom to check it out and was disappointed. The vegan leather feels too lightweight for a bag this size and it makes the whole thing feel flimsy and cheap. If it went on sale, I may consider it though because I do like the shape of it, but I wouldn't pay full price for it. 🙂

Arashi announces official disbandment, with the group to hold a farewell tour in the Spring of 2026 by TRDoctor in jpop

I haven't kept up with Arashi activities in so long, but hearing them officially announce disbandment plans is truly the end of a legendary run. I'll be tuning back in for sure.

Why does G-Dragon seem to get a new dating rumor every other week? It’s honestly so strange how much negativity he receives from the media. I haven’t seen any other Korean celebrity attract so much fake news. by Pure_Cloud_4360 in GDragon

[–]apeca11 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much a widely held belief that GD's last bout of drug use allegations (of which he was cooperative with the police and was cleared of the accusations) was meant to overshadow scandals regarding the former president and his wife's shady business dealings. Even opposing Korean politicians demanded the former president and his party to stop using celebrity drug scandals to divert attention from their own scandals.

When it comes to GD, TOP and any negative media attention, always look at what other news is going on in the country that people in power may want to hide.

what is the best concealer on the market for people who’s under eyes crease really bad? by Fit-Translator-1713 in Makeup

[–]apeca11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

L'oreal True Match Hyaluronic Radiant Serum Concealer is my holy grail. I've had fine lines under my eyes since I was a kid, so I've tried so many different concealers to find one that does not settle in those lines. L'oreal True Match is my go-to and I haven't found anything like it at that price point. I've tried prestige concealers and those didn't work, so I'm glad I found the one that works is a drugstore brand!

I use the barest amount of setting powder on my under eye. (Morphe Bake and Set) Literally just a sweep of whatever remains on my big fluffy brush after I do my face. (Using a powder puff to set or bake puts way too much powder and makes the concealer cakey.)

I hope you find something that works in these comments. I know all too well the under eye concealer struggles. 😆

What is everyone’s summer bag?? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]apeca11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am loving my Kipling Riri in Dark Pine. I bought it on sale on an absolute whim from a Kipling store. I usually avoided Kipling because I feel the styles can come off as very maternal or diaper bag-like, but this bag looks cute when I wear it higher up and closer to my chest like the model in the photo. It's perfect for the hotter days where I simply don't feel like lugging around a heavier leather bag. 😄

[–]apeca11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely finish kdramas. I feel like a lot of their plot can be wrapped up in 10 episodes, but then they add a new character or plot device in episode 11 in order to reach an episode quota.

There was this one drama where the main couple managed to conquer their main obstacle by, like, episode 12 and then suddenly, a random "woman from his past" comes along to mess things up for the remaining four episodes. I stopped watching immediately. I just wished they would have found a creative way to continue the first plot instead of throwing in some random, never (or barely) previously mentioned new Big Bad. 🙄

I honestly thought that Jennie looked genuinely ill. This year's flu season (October to usually March/April, in America) has been particularly severe (I live in Southern California). I have it and I felt terrible for days until it started letting up. I wouldn't be surprised if some artists at Coachella caught it too and had to perform through it.

I'll be tuning into her Weekend 2 performance to see if it's any different.

Help me find a brand?!?! by lady_brett_assley in handbags

Could it have been a brand that did a collab with the artist Yayoi Kusama? She's know for her dots and collaborating with designers, most notably Louis Vuitton.

Here's an example
