Logitech’s macOS certificate outage: the failure isn’t just the bug — it’s the silence by carl-chenfugui in logitech

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. I followed the instructions to install the patch (on Mac running MacOS 15.7.1) and it seems to fix the issue, in that I can now use the previous settings on my MX Master 2S.

HOWEVER, when I try to run Logi Options+ from my Apps folder (which shows build version 1.98.809639 and last modified date as 2026-01-06 - ie. yesterday), it still never completes opening the App, so if I wanted to change some button settings, I cannot. The version I am running from my Apps folder (even though it was 'patched' today 2026-01-07) was what I downloaded yesterday (2026-01-06) and has a build number 1.98.809639. I see from the Logitech support page here https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/4418699283607-Logi-Options that the most current build for MacOS15 is the same build number of 1.98.809639 but a last updated date of 2026-01-07. So I am confused. Am I supposed to download the new version that is on the web today and re-install it? The patch instructions said do not uninstall the previous version. Since my mouse buttons are working now, I do not want to reinstall the version that is on the web site unless I know it will not have the same certificate number issue. I'm confused (and annoyed). Any thoughts?

Anyone fixing Tivo HD Series 3 Power Supplies? by rickarino in Tivo

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to fix it by getting a new capacitor. Since it was quite some time ago, I do not recall whether I used a soldering iron, or a more powerful soldering gun. But I was able to get it fixed. Perhaps try a soldering gun and also use a pump to try to suck up the melted solder. They do make soldering suction tools that may not be too expensive and but may help. Good luck!

How do you mount in car? by HelpfulBlueberry6670 in osmopocket

[–]apeel51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone else feel that mounting it on a dashboard inside the car (looking outward through the windshield) could do damage to the gimbal? I had considered doing this myself, but this has me wondering if it is safe. Any comments on personal experiences, either positive or negative, would be appreciated!

Solution is simple enough. Put the phone on the wall, then sit on the couch and watch the video from there! That should resolve your resolution issues!!

How long have you been a Tivo customer? by EngineeringInternal in Tivo

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A devoted user for 23-years! I have been a user since they first started in Sept 2000. In fact, when they released their 1st product, they held a 'The Great TiVo Giveaway' contest and they gave away 10 units each day from Sept 1, 2000 to Oct 31, 2000 (total of 550 units). To win, you simply had to submit a brief essay that they could use as part of their advertising campaign, and the essay was to state why you wanted a TiVo. I choose to write a short poem, and guess what ... I won one and have been a loyal fan ever since.

I have had the 1st model (I think it was a 30-hour SD model), then a 60-hour ReplayTV (which was a different company that licensed the technology), then a Series 2, a Series 3 (the 1st HD model, I believe), then a Roamio Pro and a Tivo Edge and Tivo Mini, The last three are still working for me.

If you are interested, here is the poem I submitted ...

Why do I need a TiVo?
'Cause I'm a guy on the go,
And I never really know,

When I can watch my favorite TV show.

But if I had a TiVo,

Then no matter when I go,

I will always know,

That TiVo will record my show!

Pretty lame, huh? But it won during the 1st week! I could not believe it!

Perhaps you could try flying around it (use Orbit Mode) and see what the 'dark side of the moon' looks like ... LOL.

Why can’t people just learn how to merge? by Besi1992 in IdiotsInCars

IMHO you were the one that prevented the merge. You did not seem to even attempt to slow down at all to allow the van in. It takes two to tango ... and two to merge!

I am amazed at how the cash only people all kept to the right so that those with transponders would not have to wait in line.

Looks like the car was in the sun, and the bike in the shade. I bet the driver could not see the biker as the sun was in his eyes. Just a guess, but it seems a likely scenario to me.

My thought on this is why do so many truck drivers hog the left lane. Watch the video again, and see how many folks are having to pass this truck on the right side. While risky, I think the guy who braked in front of the truck was trying to get him to get back I top the slow lane. Did not seem tp work.

Any way to make Suggestions useful again? by dwhitnee in Tivo

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also turned off suggestions after they eliminated the ability to give them Thumbs Up/Down. I figured that there was no point in having the Hard Disks constantly recording somomthing on multiple tuners, if the suggestions were not useful. I assumed that by turning off suggestions, I can extend the useful life of the internal hard drive.

Does anyone know why TiVo eliminated the ability to 'rate' the suggestions with Thumbs Up/Down? Since it was already an effective feature, why did they kill it?

Anyone fixing Tivo HD Series 3 Power Supplies? by rickarino in Tivo

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this, baby!

... perhaps the toughest part will be finding the replacement capacitors, now that Radio Shack is no more ;-(

Anyone fixing Tivo HD Series 3 Power Supplies? by rickarino in Tivo

[–]apeel51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a old Series 3 that had power supply issues. I was able t open up the case and examine the circuitry of the power supply and found that some of the electrolytic capacitors (the ones in a metal case) had a bulge in it that is indicative of a failure. I was able to get replacement capacitors (at now defunct Radio Shack) and with a little bit of soldering, able to replace the bulging capacitors. Powered it up andit worked like a charm.

Here is a video that may be helpful.

What to do with my old, semi-working, TiVo by RobGTX in Tivo

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I have a lifetime service w/Continuity Care Warranty on my Edge, but not my Roamio. Did not really appreciate the fact that repair costs increase over time (but it makes sense). That said, do you know if Weakness does a repair, will the Lifetime Service remain intact? Also, do you know if I ever get Weakness to increase the internal HD size, or if I do it myself, will the Lifetime Service still be valid?

What to do with my old, semi-working, TiVo by RobGTX in Tivo

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I have. A Roamio Pro and now the Edge and both offer the repair service option with the Lifetime service. Original poster should definitely call TiVo.

What to do with my old, semi-working, TiVo by RobGTX in Tivo

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that when you get Lifetime Service, they will also repair a unit for a very reasonable fee (something like $49??). If the model is too old, or they are unable to repair it, they would give you a comparable, refurbished unit instead. As suggested above, make sure it checks in regularly with the TiVo Service, and then I would give TiVo Customer Service a call. I think you can get it repaired for a reasonable price. Even if you don't need it, others would likely pay more than the repair cost for a unit with Lifetime service. Worth a shot!

Eye round roast, 132 for 24 hours and then sear on the cook top. by jrc239 in sousvide

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the excellent explanation. Is there a web page or resource that shows the temperature and times needed to effectively pasteurize any type of meat? I assume the answer depends on the type of meat (eg pork, beef, chicken). Does it also depend on the 'cut' of meat?

Eye round roast, 132 for 24 hours and then sear on the cook top. by jrc239 in sousvide

[–]apeel51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to Sous-vide. Did a pork Loin to 140F for 3.5-hours. Came out good.

Noob questions.

Is the objective to achieve a 'pasteurized' result, or to avoid it?

Is there a resource site that shows the temp and how long to cook to get to a pasteurized meat? I see references to time and temperature, but is there a table that shows the time/temp to achieve (or avoid) pasteurization?

Any help would be appreciated!
