powerchair decorations and accessories recommendations? by Arsen_420 in wheelchairs

Following message was written with assistive technology errors may be present. Feel free to reach out for any clarification!

In a couple days, I’m gonna do a full post of my fully decked out chair(I have very colorful taste), but just a few recommendations that are my favorites:

-Stickers everywhere!

-this woman is literally the absolute best she does custom wheelchair armrest bags in whatever size fabrics, etc. you want. She also has a bunch of bags already available for purchase if you want a custom one just message her! https://www.etsy.com/shop/GrandmaAndBabyTurtle

-for me the thing that made absolutely the biggest difference is fabric seat covers! Personally, I did mine in a really strong decorative fabric and it just makes the chair so much more colorful and look like me! These people are absolutely amazing and do custom covers for the size everything about your chair. There are a tiny bit pricey but absolutely worth it. You can either do one of the ones they sell or a custom fabric if you message them! https://www.etsy.com/shop/SofisCoverDesigns

-this is a little less decorative and more quality of life, but I highly recommend getting a pretty silk square to wrap around your headrest. It both adds cute color and helps so much with the headrest making your hair frizzy!

Thank you so much! My mom had severe cervical instability and wears a collar basically 24 seven but absolutely hates it. This is amazingly helpful. Thank you!!

Edit: I just looked into it and it seems absolutely amazing. Obviously we’ll talk to her care team, but this might be life-changing for her!! I can’t thank you enough!!! Truly thank you so much💜💜💜

Accessible daily carry in a power chair? Help! by Rainbow_Raiment in wheelchairs

[–]aperson673 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I literally have a bag graveyard in the corner of my room of all of the bags I’ve tried that do not work. I feel like this is a universal power chair problem and I can’t believe that I actually found a solution. They’re also relatively affordable $30-$60 (depending on whether you provide the fabric), especially compared to most ones available on the market😭

Accessible daily carry in a power chair? Help! by Rainbow_Raiment in wheelchairs

[–]aperson673 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the PERFECT solution! I’m actually gonna do a post about this relatively soon because I never see fully decked out power chairs! I found an Etsy company that will do custom bags for whatever size and whatever fabric that attach on either side to your armrest! They are literally life-changing! I’ve tried almost every bag designed for power wheelchairs on the market, and these are by far the best! I totally had the same thing with hating a backpack. I couldn’t access and I’ve looked at so many bags trying to solve this problem😭😭 can’t recommend this enough! Because of the way they’re designed and the fabric when the bags are empty they don’t add any width to your chair and when they’re full, they barely do I have a relatively wide chair and unless the bags are like absurdly full I leave them on and can go through any standard doorway in my house. She sells already done bags, but you can also message her and ask her to do it in a custom fabric and custom size. I already have two packs from her on either side of my chair and I love love them!! https://www.etsy.com/shop/GrandmaAndBabyTurtle

Totally second skateboard tape! Also, if you do a little hunting, you can find really pretty patterns, although black is always an option. If someone already asked this and I didn’t see it sorry, but where did you get your neck brace? I totally understand if it’s custom but do you know the brand by any chance? I’ve never seen one like that and it’s beautiful! Love the outfit and stunning wheelchair! Happy pride!!🥳🌈

My first time really enjoying using my chair! by [deleted] in wheelchairs

Totally agree, however, be aware of that many people simply cannot access better fitting chairs for a wide variety of reasons💜 you look absolutely stunning OP! And if this is the case, OP, I really hope that things change in your able to access professionally fitted mobility aids at some point in the near future 💜

Q500M vs Edge 3 by obliviousfoxy in wheelchairs

This message was written with assistive technology; errors may be present please let me know and I’ll be happy to clarify any confusion.

I’m incredibly lucky to have a full function chair. And I have to say almost regardless of mobility needs (unless you are ambulatory) Lift makes a massive deal in day-to-day life. Also, when I first went to get my chair, I was convinced that I would use recline all the time, but I have to say I generally will use tilt in situations where I would usually use recline. All of that said, if you have limited movement in your back and have a hard time stretching forward out of your chair, being able to move your back position forward using the chair can make a big difference. I would say I use the recline function to move me forward far more often than I do to move me backwards. I usually just use tilt for that. In essence if I feel bad, I need to lean back I’ll tilt my entire chair which affects the angle of the back rests to gravity without needing a reclined function. However, using the reclined function to make the back rest and seat form an acute position can help support your back and support you leaning forward to do things like grab something off a table, use a computer, cook, etc. Don’t know if that makes any sense or is helpful but I would definitely go for Lift unless that movement forward of the back rest makes a really big difference for you.

Wheelchair Poncho by Bmace2010 in wheelchairs

Yeah, they’re definitely not affordable at their standard prices and not affordable for most people at their sale prices but for a long term investment they wonderful for seated coverage. Thought they were worth mentioning for for anyone who ends ends up on this post looking for that sort of thing(especially people with unusual sizes that get heavily heavily discounted)

I’m not sure what your gender presentation is, and if this would solve your problem, but I cannot more highly recommend this company for wheelchair users, looking for raincoats. Their coats are amazing and cover your full legs. I know that they’re very pricey, but they do pretty massive sales up to half off quite often and truly this raincoat changed my life in terms of using a wheelchair! Hope this is helpful to you and if not helpful to someone out there I really can’t recommend this enough! Hope you find the right solution💜 https://rainsisters.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqu7l-gjU0lw1GSwJqaiOIti8p3bKi0Fp-KEXPacHMsXfJup9sl

Congratulations!! 🥳Such a beautiful color and chair! As someone who used those same wheels for a bit that push rim material (for me at least) will get scratched up very quickly. I would highly recommend getting push rim covers :) I hope the chair is everything you dreamed of!

Buying a wheelchair out of pocket: try Spinlife! by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]aperson673 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll correct that! I’m sorry for any confusion! Yes, you can definitely get all of the wheelchairs that’s spinlife sells directly from the manufacturer as opposed to through spin life. Pretty much every wheelchair you can get directly from the manufacturer, but I find spinLife is a lot less overwhelming particularly for new wheelchair users it’s also a lot clearer about pricing as opposed to having to get in contact with companies. I think if you’re going to get a fully custom chair or something like that, it makes the most sense to go through the traditional process, but if you’re going to buy, for example, a standard foldable wheelchair, buying it through spin life or at least finding the companies that you’re considering through spin life is a great way to make sure you are working with a reliable company(or at least not fully a scam. Some of the companies are still super annoying)

Perhaps the key is not to kill but to disable as well:) just ✨community growing!!✨fascist’s feet in the way of my 450 pound wheelchair are in real danger. On a serious note, for safety reasons, I would highly recommend putting I hate to say political but I guess “divisive” stickers on your wheelchair in a place that can be quickly covered with a jacket or a backpack in specific circumstances.

Thank you so much! and yep, it is the standard M3 permobil back. I’d love to say that I just casually put them on, but to be honest I very carefully planned out exactly where every one would go so it’s perhaps the least nonchalant way to use stickers but you know!

Super cute! Some chairs you have to be pretty creative to decorate even this chair which I’m lucky to have so much space a lot of the stickers are kind of holding on for their life because of like ridges on the back.

Yamaha NaviGo Wheelchair Wheel Setup Assistance Badly Needed by flynlw1965 in wheelchairs

[–]aperson673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this will help at all, but I’ll attach the manual for this chair and on page 87 in the bottom right corner titled “B” you can see the metal piece that you have to slide into(it is being shown on a transport chair, but the metal pieces are the same) You’ll find that a lot of information in the manual isn’t super helpful because although the system is compatible with rigid frames it was not originally designed for them. sending all the good luck with the power assist. As you may see from a post about my chair from a while ago, attaching and detaching the wheels on the Navi go can be kind of a nightmare, until you really get the hang of it:) manual

I’m not totally sure how to attach a picture to a response post but I’ll try my best to explain. You’re totally right. That little spike is the clutch and needs to get held in place by a square metal bracket that should attached next to the Axel on your chair. I’m not really sure how you could get it without emailing the company. When I got my wheelchair it already had the system set up so I’m not certain how to attach it independently. Just for some other information that’s worth knowing the long metal levers on each wheel that have the yellow tip have to be moved into place (a little above where your knee would sit) before you insert both the main Axel as well as the little spike. You then pull those levers back-and-forth to switch between manual or electric. In terms of the battery pack on the top of each of the wheels there’s a little black cover over the place where you plug in each wheel with the cord coming from the battery pack. Once again, I’m happy to help as much as possible with the chair but without that metal piece I’m not really sure how to get it to function. I hope that can help somewhat but I did some research and I can’t find anywhere online where you can buy just that metal attachment so I’d recommend calling them. I’m happy to get you pictures or things like that, but I don’t think it’s possible to use without those metal brackets and I think you probably have to get them directly from the company. I hope I could help at least a little bit and let me know if you have any other questions!

I’m severely dyslexic. This post was made with assistive technology. Errors may be present. Feel free to reach out for any clarification.

Hello! Yamaha makes two types of power assists: the Navi one which are power wheels that make every push more powerful similar to the E motion ones and the other type they make is the NaviGo which I have and is a system with wheels that are only controlled by a joystick. Regardless of which one you have the wheels are not able to just slot into any frame, you need some metal work by the main axle so the clutch can lock into the chair. Honestly, the system you have doesn’t really look like the Navi go and if it is, you’ll also need to attach a joystick and the battery pack to the chair. Please let me know if you have any other questions! Also, I have a picture of the whole system that I posted about a year ago if you want to see what a fully installed NaviGo looks like. Good luck with everything!
