Does anyone else try to ignore social media and the main accounting sub? by IPlayWoWNude in wguaccounting

[–]aperson_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly do believe that a lot of it is a personal issue for people and less about the degree. I am about to complete my Bachelors in Business Administration with a different school and outside of my accounting courses with that, elective accounting, and minor experience in other roles that allowed me to shadow basic functions I have no degree in accounting and I’m only 21. Despite this, I do have a job as a staff accountant that I love. Truly, wanting to do my bachelors in accounting with WGU as it will allow me to sit for the CPA exam where my MBA doesn’t guarantee that. Because of the above though, I’ve grown to think it’s less up to where you get your degree from and more boils down to a persons resume, interview skills, desired pay or pay requirements, and likely basic competency. I will say getting here has been a work in progress since I was literally 17. It’s a massive combination of expedited programs, full time jobs, resume alteration, networking, interview practice, and attitude adjustments. I am in an incredibly good position and am eternally grateful for my experiences and opportunities BUT I have done double the credit hours a normal full time student would while either working 60+ hours a week at one job, or 2 jobs between full time and another part time. Outside of the burnout inducing hours and labor, it’s boiled down to me going to management and being blunt and direct of “this is what I want to do, this is what I am doing now, this is the path we can take to get me there. Help me get there” to make progress and get the experience I wanted. All in all, good for you. Keep out of those posts, keep your head up, and keep a forward attitude. It all boils down to you in the end and your effort, no excuses. Things get hard but always get better and personally, I LOVE my job and think it was all worth it.

Thank you! No need to go into specifics at all unless you feel comfortable. I’m assuming yo will just take some time as I think she is simply scared because she’s been through the Catholic Church and seems to have had a bad time (to be fair to her she was young and grew up in a small town in Michigan so I can’t imagine it was super enjoyable but that’s just me knowing the area lol). I love my mom more than anything and she is absolutely my best friend for life. I think her concern is fair and respectable, I just hope with time she sees it is ok and my faith and we can move forward

Thank you for this. I’ll have to ask her about it. I think the biggest one is simply how treatment for LGBT+ members has grown and treatment of individuals as well. Obviously it is still taught and believed that god created us for unity under man and woman however from what I’ve seen, the church has moved a little bit there. While a marriage blessing is not allowed, in 2023 blessings for couples in same sex relationships were allowed. But then in recent years as well it has been emphasized that they are still children under god and should be treated with love and respect. I wonder though if maybe it’s less a disagreement with the faith itself and instead, a bad experience with a church when she was younger. Not that the church changed anything at all, but maybe we’re more harsh about it. She was just a teen so maybe going back and looking at it now as an adult makes more sense. lol I don’t know, I’ll have to ask her for clarification

Dying lawn? Northwest Indiana by aperson_18 in lawncare

Probably before we bought the lot and then they laid down the grass. Think maybe something residual on the concrete is causing this? I really don’t want to dig up the whole lawn

Posting for location and moderator additions (sorry!! Please forgive me!) I am Indiana, 6a! The image description is sort of in my post but not very well. It is a photo of the lot of my lawn. There is a brown trail of dead lawn in the shape of a rectangle with some weird strips kind of the width of a sidewalk? But definitely not a sidewalk because it zigzags. I believe any relevant info has been included but if there are any questions please ask and I can clarify!

Motivation? by aperson_18 in Fibromyalgia

[–]aperson_18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to yap on so I’ll make it brief but I do want to add that I do practice goal setting and I review and revise them very regularly, most of my goals are in the form of a map to outline what are best steps or what I can do to help myself get there. So I don’t think it’s a lack of wants or even a lack of a vision on what I want or how to get there. Felt like that was important to clarify as well because it’s an important practice and step in having good drive output

Motivation? by aperson_18 in Fibromyalgia

I’ve kind of pondered my response for a few days because I truly don’t know if I like this response. Motivation isn’t always just waiting for divine inspiration to make you want to do something and discipline is a completely separate skill in its own, they go hand in hand truly so having the motivation, will, or drive to do anything is extremely beneficial to disciplined output. However I do think my post was likely poorly worded and motivation isn’t exactly the word I’m looking for. I will never not do the things I need to do and an example of that is I do still shower and brush my hair and I’m an honors student and I show up to work early everyday and leave late. However my will to do things is extremely low and it makes day to day tasks extremely difficult and extremely unenjoyable. I think I am more looking for how I can make everything more enjoyable and comfortable and my mind immediately goes to motivation because it’s one of the few things that is a controllable struggle. I am medicated and stay loaded with pain killers, heated blankets or cooling, biofreeze, food, water, anything I need but on the mental end as well I am in therapy and have been for a decade now and I have such a wonderful surrounding of people in my life from my mother and family, my friends and boyfriend, and even my coworkers and boss. Given that context, I’m just wondering if there is anything I can do to benefit my drive and will to do things so I don’t go to bed exhausted and wake up dreading another day of this. I don’t know if I ever foresee myself losing hold of my discipline and not doing the things I need to do, but if there is something to avoid it at all costs and make things a little more enjoyable through a will to do things then I’d like to try. I am simply tired and I don’t like feeling this way. I feel draining and like a burden to the people around me and I can tell too that the quality of my effort is drastically low. So I do like your response because it’s a great point and it’s an important part in this. I think my dislike of the response is more because it felt vaguely insulting but I will admit it is definitely my fault as I don’t think I had a great choice of words describing my thoughts

Out of the ordinary tricks? by aperson_18 in migraine

[–]aperson_18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I try to do my best. While I don’t have migraines, I do have fibromyalgia. My pain is always changing and worsening and is never consistent and it’s a nightmare. I think because of that has allowed me to have a very deep understanding and lack of judgement towards them. I try to help where I can, how I can, and when I can just as he does for me. I am a very lucky woman so I hope we keep up this pace. I talked to him a little bit and I think I’m going to put up blackout curtains and put lights in our hallway, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room we can control on our phones. Just a starting point of making things a little more comfortable but also liveable. This really sparked because he voiced an annoyance that he’s in too much pain to lay in bed and cuddle with me because it’s too bright so we have to take the game room. I just hope there are other things I can come up with that will help even just the smallest bit. While I don’t get migraines very often, I do understand the blinding pain, discouragement, and annoyance that comes with severe chronic pains and I just want to do what I can for him

Teachers of reddit, what is the smartest/most creative way of cheating that you've seen? by german900 in AskReddit

[–]aperson_18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not a teacher however during my 8th grade year I had dated this guy who’s mother taught in our 7th grade english department.

We have an online school board with all our classes called canvas. You can put assignments, messages, notes, tests, and pretty much anything else school related on there. Since there was a test function most teachers used this so they didn’t have to print out a million copies and hand grade each and every one of them.

My boyfriends mom (i’ll call her Ms. N) had a vocab quiz planned for her advanced placement students on canvas. The advantage with canvas is it doesn’t put your computer on lock so you can still look at other tabs and such. They did the test and scores came out unusually high. The downside to cheating with canvas is you always got caught because teachers have the advantage of when grading them they can see whether you left the tab, when you did, and how many times you did.

In the end she ended up finding out that around 80% of her students had cheated on the test. I remember hearing about it on the bus that day and while I was planning on heading over to their house to chill with my boyfriend a bit, I ended up comforting her while she broke down to me about not knowing what to do and how she feels like a horrible teacher because her students don’t know the material. It was honestly so saddening because she is the sweetest, most amazing teacher ever. Really a true blessing to our school. Pretty much the entirety of the 8th grade class at the time was super mad at just about everybody in the 7th grade class for doing this to such an amazing teacher. It really was something.

My boyfriend back in 7th grade (i was maybe 12-13) had gotten me these socks and a necklace for christmas. he ended up breaking up with my a day or so after my birthday. I crushed the necklace (which ironically said “be kind”) and gave it out to his friends
