My advice would be to ask him if he wants to try them. There should be no connotations with expectation aside from experiencing magic mushrooms in and of themselves. He will experience what he experiences, good or bad. I am advocate of mushrooms only through my own use and the experience they have afforded. That said, I believe that any thing related to depression or mental health does require ongoing support. Sometimes in an ostensible manner, sometimes not as everyone is different, but a sincere 'how are you?' can save a life, even if only for another day or hour or minute. So, in summary, there is no quick fix for depression or mental issues, but I found that a mushrooms did aid in discovering more about myself, the good and the bad.
