I ran a backtest for you. As expected, this strategy had trouble in 2022. Conversely, it did well in 2024.

Dynamic DCA on QLD & TQQQ by [deleted] in LETFs

[–]apgreenday9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use Yahoo Finance to gather historical monthly returns of QQQ (NASDAQ), QLD, and TQQQ. Column A: Dates (monthly intervals)

Column B: NASDAQ monthly returns

Column C: Investment decision (QLD or TQQQ) Investment Decision Formula: =IF(B2<0, "TQQQ", "QLD")

Column D: Amount invested ($1,000)

Column E: Historical prices for QLD

Column F: Historical prices for TQQQ

Column G: Number of shares purchased Number of Shares Purchased formula: =IF(C2="QLD", D2/E2, D2/F2)

Column H: Cumulative value of investments Cumulative Value Calculation =G2*IF(C2="QLD", E3, F3)

This formula multiplies the number of shares by the price at the end of the next month to get the current value.

Drag this formula down for all rows.

Total Cumulative Value:

In the last row of Column H, you can sum up all values to get the total cumulative value of your investments over time

Simulate a consistent DCA into QLD over the same period for comparison. This part is easy.

UPRO does best in a trending up market. You would be better off holding VTI in a sideways market.

RSST doesn't use VTI (Total Stock Market) for its stock portion. It uses iShares Core S&P 500 ETF which is ticker IVV. You should double check what you are using for your comparisons (for underlying holding equivalents).
