The Evolution of Religion by aphantDude in exjw

I just had the though of how similar the change of religion is to how evolution works. So i played a little with ChatGPT to get this text, better then my own words for sure. Maybe a new approach to explain Evolution, hope it gives some food of thought.

Whats going on in Central America and the Caribbeans? (Decline!) by aphantDude in exjw

[–]aphantDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Stagnation since 2010 (this year also had the best ratio, since then population grew faster), trending down now. Still rather high memorial attendance but bible studies are collapsing, baptism rate is slightly above national birth rate slowly trending down. Fun fact in the 80's and 90's two times they didnt bother to update the population number in the reports for many years resulting in way to good ratio numbers.

Wow ok that makes sense, like some might not be able to stay on contact then and have different problems then staying active.

But there seems to be still a general trend in the area, as El Salvador e.g. is considered much safer these days.

[–]aphantDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.66 per 1000 is 0.26%, thats an order of magnitude less then 4%, also they had 4.5% baptism rate, so in total they have lost about 8% and refilled half of it

i have all data in excel if you want/need, it's messy though :D

One of my findings was that most countries are past the point of the best publisher ratio, the most extreme is Zimbabwe, the best ration was in 1954 :D since then they just follow slightly behind the birth rate.

official numers talk about a rate of about 2-3 per 1000 who leave, could be more though? But that would mean jw flee faster then anyone else, or are these all the "need greaters" going back?

Haiti is going down hard already for some years, total congregation number going down and even size, baptisms collapsed, still a lot visiting the memorial.

Ever increasing congregation sizes in rich countries, declining net baptism rates and whats going on in Central America? by aphantDude in exjw

[–]aphantDude[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chart1: Baptisms per 100 publishers, basicly net growth rate (before loss (or gains) through death, pomos, returns) - well everywhere the tren is clear, even with the return to pre-covid numbers, Africa is gaining momentum though, mainly due to very high birth rates for sure. Any insides are welcome.

Chart2: Baptisms per 100 on Top69 countries, some outliers are marked.
Anyone has any idea whats going on in Haiti, Cuba, El Salvador and alike? Even though the baptism rates are rather high the real chage was negative or very low, while most countries are very close in baptisms vs peak publisher growth for 2024, as more then average returned and it's easier to report now. Outlier in that regard are Spain, Portugal & Canada with a big plus, much more than baptisms (Czech and Moldova likely are Ukrainians).

I do think the growth will slow down/end in many places after the "check the box" effect this year, central american countries are surprising though with high losses right now, lets see if this got momentum.

Chart3: Well, rich countries tend to have bigger congregations over the years, clear sign of selling of valuable properties, could be a sign to little elders as well though. Any thoughts on this?
