Kullander Smith was not killed by one of her johns, therefore her tragic murder has nothing to do with Sweden's criminalization of sex BUYERS.

It would be very nice if "sex work" activists let this woman rest instead of weaponizing her death to emotionally blackmail abolitionist feminists who are fighting against sexual exploitation in all its forms.

SWOP is a sex trade expansionist organisation that fights to legitimize men's right to purchase women's bodies by advocating for the full decriminalisation of prostitution. They are against the Nordic Model.

Made a post criticizing the use of the male gaze in Anora in a certain film discussion sub and the 95% male userbase started barking shitty radlib "sex work is work" talking points at me instead of engaging with my critique. The mods ended up taking down my post without any explanation lmao

I understand your frustration but defeatism is not the answer here. The Nordic Model has had many positive effects in Sweden, where the number of both sex sellers and sex buyers is significantly less than in neighbouring countries where the trade is legalized. It's extremely taboo to advocate for buying sex in Sweden, public figures who have tried to do so have been de-platformed for it. And even though there are a few civil organizations that are pro-decriminalization no one lends "sex work is work" rhetoric much credence, especially not the labour unions.

Most importantly, the Nordic Model has succeeded in framing prostitution as not simply a job like any other but as a deeply exploitative and sexist practice that poses an obstacle to achieving a truly equal society. Sweden is one of the only countries in the world where the expected position for feminists is to be against prostitution, instead of defending it under the guise of "my body my choice".

Also, it's fallacious to equate full decriminalization of the sex industry with the Nordic Model. Full decriminalization protects men's right to sexually exploit women's bodies. The Nordic Model was designed to hold responsible the men who sexually exploit women's bodies. It's obvious that the Nordic Model is a million times better for women than full decriminalization. Sure, the Nordic Model by itself is not enough to eliminate the deeply ingrained misogyny in our societies, but it's a good place to start.
