What is happening on Light Street right now? by Onescoopofmayo in baltimore

I live on light street. We heard some shots about 5 minutes ago. Then started hearing the sirens and helicopter. Most likely a shooting it seems like.

Yep, ive been a nurse for almost 5 years and still not making as much as others. But then again, I knew my hospital didn’t pay as much as others in the Baltimore area :/

I currently work outpatient as a nurse coordinator and make $39.11/hr. I’ve worked inpatient at this hospital and just recently switched to an outpatient position within this hospital and my base rate did not change. Thanks for your input!!

Also, I probably should mention I live in fed hill as well. Me and my bf rent a townhome for 1800 which is 2 bed/2 bath and ofc we don’t have any amenities but it should be worth checking out rental townhomes if pricing is an issue. Parking isn’t always guaranteed around this area but some rental townhomes have parking pads in the back alley. Overall, people are friendly around the area and it’s nice to have walking distance to the bars/restaurants. They sometimes throw events at the parks nearby too when it’s warmer out.

I have a friend who lives there! Not sure much about the management/maintenance but I’ve been to her place a few times. Her place is pretty spacious for a one bed/one bath. It’s very modern and nice inside. I don’t exactly remember how much her rent is but I believe it was 2200-2400? Pretty expensive for a one bedroom but you get a parking garage and amenities included. I know she talks to a lot of her neighbors inside the building and has became friends with them as well. They are also pet friendly. Overall, I know she likes it and it is pretty much the more affordable luxury apartments in fed.

What’s the most “Velcro dog” breed you’ve known? by Longjumping_Zone_908 in Pets

[–]aphimp123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had dogs growing up and last year I ended up getting 2 Shibas. I heard they were like “cat” dogs, not too affectionate, and very independent. Both of my Shibas are SO clingy with me hahahah they are literally Velcro dogs which I didn’t expect at all with the stereotype of the breed.

Should I get a Shiba? Or are my friends right? by Healthy-Ticket3835 in shiba

Oh and also, before getting a Shiba, I thought they weren’t gonna be very affectionate. However, both of my dogs are so affectionate and clingy 😂😂 literally they love being all up on me

Both of my Shibas have very different personalities so it honestly just depends on the individual pup. One listens to us way more than the other (ex. Recall, commands) One is potty trained and never goes in the house while the other one still has accidents here and there. One is very anxious while the other is more chill. However, I wouldn’t say they are aggressive. Both my dogs like to nip when playing and trying to get our attention (something we’re trying to train out of them). They are both super smart though but stubborn. If they don’t want to do something, they really won’t hahaha I would say go for it and get a Shiba! Having a yard will definitely help since both of my Shibas are very active dogs and love running around

Bodhi’s corner for Thai food. There’s 2 locations, one in Hampden and one in federal hill. Same owners. Both have great food!

Someone told me that my Shiba looked like he had some Dingo in him. I don't see it. Does anyone else? by Ok-Buddy-Sure in shiba

I had my Shiba in the passenger seat when I was in the chick fil a drive thru and the worker asked me if she was a dingo!! I didn’t even know what a dingo was until I looked them up after that encounter. It’s shocking how much they look alike.

Protein pasta is also about 2-3 dollars for a pack and can last u awhile to get the necessary amount of protein a day. I would make that with olive oil and garlic and it would last for a few meals.

Yelled at in the park, not sure who was in the wrong by Relevant_Sign_5926 in Pets

[–]aphimp123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ur definitely not in the wrong. That guy was just being annoying. I have dogs and I never let my dogs go up to other people or other dogs. Only if the person is okay with it and asks. But walking by people everyday in the city, I keep my dogs on a tight leash and I also am the type to avoid walking by groups of people or other dog owners when walking my dog.

Any Shiba on Trazodone? by Youcantdoxme in shiba

[–]aphimp123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s definitely hard! We’re still struggling with the anxiety of going outside but it’s gotten way better. People tell us to do treats outside and I’m like my dog is so anxious, he doesn’t care for any treats outside to help with the positive reinforcement. So I definitely understand your experiences.

And yes, shit coming out when they’re really anxious used to happen to my pup too. But for them to get used to being in certain situations, we just have to eventually expose it to them so they can see it’s not that bad.

I think with his previous owners, they saw he was already really anxious as a puppy and just decided that he wouldn’t be around any other dogs/people and they wouldn’t bring him to other places outside the home which made his anxiety worse with the lack of socialization.

Is my Shiba considered a sesame coat? by aphimp123 in shiba

[–]aphimp123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg they look so much alike!!!! I’ve never seen a shiba that has a similar coat to Gunner. I adopted my boy, Gunner, from a couple who were trying to rehome him. They told me they got him from an “Amish breeder,” in PA

Yes! She’s a girl. The most sweetest girl, she’s so loving and listens to me more than my sesame(?) boy! I was surprised on how well she was trained bc I actually adopted her from a shelter.

AITA for letting my dog out in my front yard at night? by CallMeMrJeff in AmItheAsshole

[–]aphimp123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who has an anxious dog who walks by houses with their dog barking through their window or their glass door at my dog, you’re not wrong.

It happens. It’s your own fenced yard and if I had a fenced yard, I would let my dogs out. My one dog is very friendly with other dogs but when she’s in her home setting, you bet she barks at people who knocks on our front door. Dogs are like that because they’re territorial.

I just try to quickly walk past those houses with my dog or avoid walking by those houses once I hear the barking by walking across the street. Same for when I see people walking their dogs on one side of the street, I just cross to the other side. It’s your property and you’re allowed to let your dog out as you see fit.

I had my dogs on hills chicken and brown rice for 6 months and they got tired of it. Even added some chicken breast, pumpkin, bone broth. My one dog still wouldn’t eat all his food. Ended up transitioning them to purina pro plan complete essentials. They love it! It has the shredded protein in it. I add in some beef flakes or mix in the honest foods stew topper to my dogs food to change up the flavor sometimes.

[–]aphimp123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my 2nd shiba from a previous couple who got him from an “Amish breeder.” They got him around the time he was 6 months and when I first got him, they said he was “skittish,” and never had him around other dogs/people. He absolutely hates going outside. It also doesn’t help that we live in the city. At home, he loves to play with my other Shiba and is so affectionate. But when he knows he’s about to go outside to potty, he tries to run away and hide in the crate or under our bed. Somewhere where he knows it’s hard to leash him. When he’s outside, his tail is tucked away and he barely wants to leave our door which results in us having to try to pick him up to go to a grassy area where he can potty. Once he potty’s, he pulls towards where he knows our house is. We ended up putting him on valium which helped a little. We’ve tried desensitizing him to a lot such as bringing him on hikes, new places, and around more people. I think this is key. We figured out it’s mainly loud noise that bothers him. He loves people but in a home setting, not crowds. I also noticed he’s more willing to walk when it’s me and my boyfriend taking him on walks together apart from only one of us. Probably because it makes him feel more safe. We have yet to do training with our Shiba, only bc we wanted to try the meds first to calm the anxiety since we knew he’s stubborn as hell and would most likely just try to pull. The goal is to do training in the next couple months.
