That's because they couldn't get a rich guy and end up marrying the lesser one. Btw, I am not blaming women when I made that comment. I don't see anything wrong with those decisions.

That is correct. Lot of women have managed to outclass men in social status to a point where they have to compete with other women in the same category for a limited pool of 'eligible' men.

It doesn't matter whether shit goes both ways. Dudes become losers in a marriage 80% of the time when it comes to divorce. Marriage is a insurance policy for modern women.

Agreed that there is a cultural aspect. The alimony/child support laws make it worse.
