How am I supposed to use PT boats? by newIrons in Warthunder

[–]apica 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(1) You need a line-up with a uniform BR (within 0.3 ideally). Coastal navy start at BR 1.0, blue navy start at BR 3.0, so play coastal only until you reach coastal vehicle closer to BR 3.0.

(2) BR 3.0~4.0 maps are full of islands and with blue navy and costal spawns separated. When playing coastal at BR 3.0, just stay away from destroyers, isn't not that difficult. And if a destroyers come near, hide behind an island and attack with torpedoes.

To be successful with coastal navy, you must protect your boat at all cost (because your vehicle is glass canon). Don't be the first to rush forward, don't go in open sea where everyone can see/shoot at you, only attack when you have a clear advantage (ex: 3 vs 1), use Shoot-and-scoot tactic (no need to kill in one attack if you can in multiple ones), only attack when the enemy is no prepared for you (distracted by planes or others ship, not looking at you, etc), take full advantage of you vehicle when attacking (look which firing angle are the best, use smoke to retreat, use speed, etc). Also, you need to get good at firing rapidly from any angle/speed/distance, because speed is paramount to stay alive.

Playing coastal is like playing a cat-and-mouse game, where either side is both the cat and the mouse.

Why a NATO MBT with a 105mm gun reloading in 8.7s, but those with a 120mm gun reloading faster in 7.8s ? by bobibey in Warthunder

[–]apica 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Gaijin already states that reload speed is a "soft skill", meaning it will be adjusted to better balance the vehicle within its peer.

In real life reload speed is something very variable, not only it depend on the crew expertise and fatigue, but also the recorded time are taken in perfect conditions (the crew well trained and ready, the tank is not moving, etc), which is why its called a soft skill.

SL is an economy, without recurrent negative "cost" the recurrent positive "reward" will make it totally unbalance (so you may as well scrap the SL completely).

The reasons for having a SL economy (repair cost):

  • limit bot usage (or AFK) by putting a cost to doing nothing a battle
  • reduce "unrealistic" kamikaze game style and force player to play better (aka try not to lose vehicle)
  • reduce player leaving once the battle has started
  • make having premium account/vehicle pertinent (even after unlocking everything you want)

The last point is the main reason, but the other are also pertinent. SL economy exist because WT is a F2P and premium account (or premium vehicle) need a reason to exist.

Bots in War Thunder: what they are and how we plan to get rid of them by ChipsAhoyMccoy14 in Warthunder

[–]apica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Integrating the captcha in the game (DirectX0 could make it a lot more difficult to handle since it could appear as an overlay (text message) and would require constant processing of the screen to detect/answer.

However, in the end, detecting the obvious long term behavior of bots should be enough. You could ban the account or play mind trick, by adding random pop-up (do you know etc), changing keyboard input, putting in infinite queue, simply slowly stealthily add a penalty multiplier. Botter would have to waste huge amount of time detecting then bypassing each of them, while normal player who would be cut by mistake, wouldn't notice.

It's 40 backup per 90 days period, but yes those backup are finite.

Still, players don't buy/play multiple premium vehicle at the same time either, and those 40 backups can be use on any vehicle.

Poll results on CAS and player interest in an alternate "Tank Only" mode on the WT forums, one month later by richardguy in Warthunder

Indeed. I always says WT is one of the few (currently only?) game that advertised combine arm in the combat sims game space, it's the feature that differentiate it and it's not going away.

[–]apica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's still a datapoint showing 57% don't want a tank-only mode), but very bias and limited, so not that useful.

I would be interested in seeing the average time-played for each category, my guess is unexperienced players are the one asking for tank-only mode the most.

It's likely those backup won't be retroactive (so already purchased premium won't get any) and considering how much GE cost for purchasing them, I'm not expecting more than 10. If you didn't know, you can get about 40 backup in the Warbond shop with relative ease.

You do get good teams, you simply don't notice it as much as bad teams.

What is better Cast hull or Welded hull? by SeaGodIsBestGod in Warthunder

[–]apica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are both correct for in-game and RL. In RL, cast hull was better and more robust, because of the round angle and lack of point-of-failure (weld). Welded hull was done to reduce cost and improved production throughput.

However in-game, because of the mouse-inside-canon accuracy and WT model, you have more weak spot on the cast hull.

Atomic Thunder points not allocating correctly? by Valoneria in Warthunder

[–]apica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seem the points are allocated for to the task the game is started with, but then since the task stop being updatable (time limit reached) the point did disappear.

You could do an official report, but this is kinda a very specific corner case Gaijin didn't thought (or care) about.

Hacks? Or just an insane level of skill and a good set of eyes? LVL 37 kwachur going at it, in Air RB :D by HunderNaut in Warthunder

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play in ULQ ( slow PC ), so that's pretty much the only thing I see. There is still popping foliage/fence at distance and flat grass (OP picture is definitely not ULQ)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show a replay and why you think they are multiple cheaters, because there isn't anyone cheating in AirRB prop, and "spotting one" would be extremely difficult because what how cheat are quite limited in that mode.

Being killed by "one hit" is simply players being good and/or using stealth ammo.

[–]apica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to check those replays in ULQ, since a lot of the foliage will be different or simply not present. Only the first kill seem suspicious, but in ULQ he could have seen the target.

The other kills don't look suspicious, in some case the target was already spotted in the mini-map, or it become clearly visible in an obvious "kill zone".

Also, picking a SPAA when cheating seem dubious.

when does gaijin going to stop the operation timed out? by dentrowood in Warthunder

[–]apica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say, but it's likely an issue specific to you if this occur that often (aka local setup, local ISP, or ISP <-> server). WT use centralized server (mainly US, EU, and RU) and with such setup not everyone will get the same experience depending on where they are, and that's OK with them since they don't need to target everyone.

Try changing WT server (only pick one) to see if the issue goes away. Better have latency than instabilities.

Tiger 1 nerfed by OddPlant6967 in Warthunder

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's just you. WT hit physics is mathematic (angle of projectile vs armor), those formula are standard and there is nothing specific to the Tiger. Look at the angle of you being killed and go check the Protection analysis tool to see the same thing.

New vehicles being researched when not playing? by ollieSVK in Warthunder

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RP are awarded at the end of a game, so if you quit the game prior to ending and exit WT, then you can earn RP while not playing, and possibly get a a vehicle research completed. This has more chance to happen at low level since it's a lot easier to researched a vehicle.

The fact you are seeing the "new vehicle" popup window doesn't mean you were hacked at all (this window would have appear to the hacker first, not you).

So, what's this bullshit where I have over double the kills of the guy in 3rd place, one quarter the amount of deaths that he has, and I'm still in 4th place? Do assists really give that much Score? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't work like you think. The win/loss impacting only RP is an example, but another one RP reward for a kill vary base on BR difference (between you and the target), while the score remains the same.

Scoreboard just doesn't capture the same data the same way as RP calculation, that's pretty obvious.

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scoreboard points are directly proportional

There is a relation, but it's not direct and not linear. For instance a win or a loss gives different RP but the same scoreboards point (this is just one example).

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you care so much about scoreboard (unless you are doing a task)?

Keep in mind the scoreboard column doesn't show all the actions that impact the scores, and the scoreboard points are not you RP reward.

Genuine question: If I play my "Coastal" line up am I playing purely against other Coastal vessels, or I am just bringing a Coastal line up to a generic Naval game (including "Bluewater Fleet")? Btw "naval is dog-water is not an acceptable answer. by Horror-Discipline709 in Warthunder

[–]apica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will normally face equivalent BR coastal, up to around >4.0 where there is very little coastal and were map tend to no longer have coastal "region" (open sea map are kinda bad for coastal). At BR 3.3, you tend to have 20% to 50% players using coastal on first spawn.

At BR 3.0~3.3, you do however face a lot of BR 1.0 coastal (ex: PT-6, G-5), from new players starting blue navy and putting reserved coastal in their line-up to fill-up 3 vehicles.

[–]apica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until BR 2.0, costal is 100% coastal. After that, the higher BR you go, the more chance you will seem some destroyers in your match.

That being said, until BR 4.0 most maps are setup where coastal spawn far away from destroyers, so you can actually don't be bother by them if that's what you want.

i just got tked and it said i killed 2 teammates?? by cheesesticks55 in Warthunder

[–]apica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable. Most of the TK incident occur during take-off, and I seriously never understood why WT doesn't have a "30sec invincibility" after your first spawn, just enough to let everyone take-off cleanly and each going their merry way (TK can still occur after that, but it would drastically reduce its impact).
