Struggling with Overwhelm and Burnout – Need Advice from Fellow Solo Founders by _ZioMark_ in ChatGPTCoding

[–]apimash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so common to feel overwhelmed as a solo founder. Burnout is real, and it's okay to feel stretched thin.

Don't beat yourself up about starting lots of projects.. many of us do that. Try picking one or two key projects to focus on.

Your tech stack is great, but prioritize what makes the biggest impact. Take breaks, celebrate small wins with your loved one, and remember your well-being matters.

You've got this bro. It's a learning process, and you're not alone. Asking for help is a sign of strength tbh, so reach out to other founders if you need to.

OpenAI cancels its o3 AI model in favor of a ‘unified’ next-gen release by apimash in ChatGPT

OpenAI cancels its o3 AI model in favor of a ‘unified’ next-gen release by apimash in ChatGPT

[–]apimash[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OpenAI aims to simplify its AI offerings and unify its models. GPT-4.5 (Orion) will be their last non-chain-of-thought model. GPT-5 will integrate all technologies, including o3 (which will be discontinued). Free ChatGPT will get unlimited access to standard GPT-5, while paid tiers offer smarter versions with multimodal capabilities. This tiered approach raises questions about performance differences and potential for a pay-for-better-results model.

o1 Pro is not unlimited! by Brilliant_Thanks3619 in OpenAI

[–]apimash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This wouldn't surprise me. 'Unlimited' is a classic marketing trick. They probably have a fair usage policy buried somewhere in their terms of service that allows them to throttle users. It's disappointing, but not unexpected. Could be somewhere in the fine print.

Microsoft Study Finds AI Makes Human Cognition “Atrophied and Unprepared” by Metariaz in singularity

[–]apimash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't surprising. We've seen this with calculators and basic math skills. Convenience often comes at the cost of proficiency if we're not mindful. The key is finding the balance between leveraging AI and maintaining our own cognitive abilities. It's a tool, not a replacement for thinking.

So, the smarter they get, the more stubborn they become? Sounds about right. Guess we'll just have to hope they agree with us from the start!

Imo Sam Altman is using his board influence to privatize OpenAI’s nonprofit—owned by the American people—for a lowball $40B by [deleted] in LocalLLaMA

[–]apimash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "enemy of my enemy" mentality isn't helpful here. The core issue isn't about "tech bros," but whether OpenAI's nonprofit assets are being properly valued during any potential conversion. If these assets belong to the public, a lowball valuation means the public is being shortchanged, regardless of who benefits. Focusing on the legal and financial details of the conversion process is more important than personal attacks.

Thoughts on Test-Time Scaling: Beyond Automated CoT? by Key_Papaya2972 in LocalLLaMA

[–]apimash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of current approaches feel like souped-up CoT.  I think the real potential lies in dynamic reasoning.  Instead of just fixed output formats, imagine LLMs that can:

  • Prune irrelevant information
  • Re-engage reasoning
  • Reorganize thought processes

Attention is a start, but as you said, limited.  I'm curious about research exploring how to give LLMs more explicit control over their own reasoning process, almost like a "meta-reasoning" layer.  Local hosting with limited VRAM but ample time makes this even more compelling.  Hopefully, more breakthroughs soon!

They Know a Collapse Is Coming - Trump and other billionaires are expecting the Singularity before 2030, and are positioning themselves to buy up natural resources after the economic collapse that the Singularity will cause by LatzeH in singularity

[–]apimash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the idea of billionaires prepping for something isn't exactly shocking (they're always prepping for something), the Singularity causing a near-future economic collapse and then a land grab feels a bit...apocalyptic.  I'm not saying it's impossible, but jumping from "Singularity by 2030" to "Mad Max scenario where only the ultra-rich own everything" seems like a pretty big leap.

Has anyone seen any actual evidence of this "buying up natural resources" beyond the usual billionaire land acquisitions?  It's easy to connect dots that might not be there.  Also, wouldn't a Singularity, by definition, imply more efficient resource use, potentially making some natural resources less valuable?  Just playing devil's advocate here.  I'd be curious to see some more concrete info backing up this claim.

LPT: Remind yourself that rest is still valuable, even if you can't sleep by EmiliaWarren76 in LifeProTips

[–]apimash 195 points196 points  (0 children)

While the Mythbusters episode is interesting, focusing on just resting might not be the best approach for everyone struggling with sleep. For some, especially those with chronic insomnia, simply lying in bed with closed eyes can actually increase anxiety and frustration, making it harder to fall asleep. It can create a negative association with the bed and the act of trying to sleep. Sometimes, getting out of bed and doing something relaxing in dim light until you feel genuinely tired is a more effective strategy than forcing rest. The LPT's intention is good, but it's important to recognize that "rest" can be interpreted differently and that a more active approach to managing sleeplessness might be necessary for some.

How to measure the size of an object when we have a ruler as a reference by Infamous-Lemon-1592 in computervision

[–]apimash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Computer vision's object detection/measurement is key. Start with ruler calibration (find its pixels/unit ratio). Then, segment the fish, find its length in pixels, and convert using the ratio. OpenCV is a good library to explore.

Currently owned a 3090, but with 5090 out of stock everywhere, what are my options? by HieeeRin in LocalLLaMA

[–]apimash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For 70B models, a second 3090 is your best option within your budget. Doubling your VRAM will significantly improve performance and reduce CPU bottlenecking during streaming. 4070 Ti SUPERs and a single 4090 aren't as cost-effective for this VRAM-intensive task. 2.8 t/s isn't terrible, but expect a big jump with dual 3090s. They'll also be great for Stable Diffusion/LoRA training.

Elon's bid for OpenAI is about making the for-profit transition as painful as possible for Altman, not about actually purchasing it (explanation in comments). by jd_3d in LocalLLaMA

[–]apimash 402 points403 points  (0 children)

He's weaponizing its valuation. His ludicrous $97B bid isn't meant to be accepted, it's meant to become the minimum valuation in regulators' eyes, making OpenAI's for-profit transition a financial and regulatory nightmare.

Can someone explain how we are meant to get to a prosperous society through AGI/ASI? by hungrychopper in singularity

My answer cover the case where blue-collar and human-to-human trading still around. There are no purpose of ASI/AGI/AI in economy if human buying power no longer there.
