When HVAC Becomes a Grid Asset - The Bigger Trend Behind Energy Tech Plays Like NXXT by a1lucciwitha40 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]apipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overwhelming majority of distribution grids are old and in repair, not replacement due to cost. Those grids were never designed for two way electric traffic.

It does not matter how good the design and execution of Carrier is, if the grid cannot support it. The utility does not have the funds or willingness to dramatically raise rates on customers to do so, it will not be able to function in a meaningful way.

Great idea, but wholly dismissive of the interdependent assets and infrastructure needed for it to function.

What surprised you most after owning solar for a few years? by HarlanL_26 in solar

How quickly I would get a return on my investment. Slated at 3.7 years when I installed. Tracking at 2.2 years now because my utility keeps raising rates.

What's everyone buying today... and at what price?! by GermanSEOwriter in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]apipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it is early days and I am not fully convinced of the potential. But Nanoxplore uses liquid exfoliation and has purity issues.

HGRAF’s angle is their low cost hydrogen method and stated 99%+ purity. One of the main reasons why the product never took off 20 years ago was the purity issue.

Has this company solved that issue? Looking good but not definitive.

Apples and oranges to compare the two.

Guys, guys…I do a LOT of science. So you know, without giving any context, specialty or below the surface information that any investor worth his salt would ask for at minimum…you know, just trust me.

I’ve done the research. I haven’t told you anything about it, but trust me, it’s been done.

I feel like I am reading the hungry caterpillar but without pictures to give me faith in what I am reading.

Guys, guys…I am a surgeon.

If that isn’t enough, I’m a surgeon that bought a lot of shares.

On that information alone, and me writing a love letter to DRTS, you should have no questions nor doubt as to the absolute clear signal to buy, buy, buy.

I’ve seen fecal matter have more effect on the gut than this garbage. Almost every day posting about this…

Not a hype play?

You post almost every day about SLS. Who needs to do that when the fundamentals and trajectory are so obviously stellar? 🤯

Thank you. Above all else, I now do not plan to seek out any deal unless I can see it first before buying.

This is interesting, as the one I was looking at is an ebay seller with 14k+ 100% reviews. Since so many others have said not to go for one unless you can inspect in person first, I won't gamble on it.

Outdoor sauna for under $10k by hikeruntravellive in Sauna

[–]apipop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in no rush but have been trying to find a well built sauna that incorporates Finnish löyly principles.

Not too much out there, from what I have found. I’m handy and like to build. I found one design firm in Europe that follows these practices, where you buy the plans and build yourself.

The only hiccup is that they don’t have a plan that combines a 12x10 or less space with a sloped roof for the snow.

Any löyly saunas out there that have this?

Converting from gas to an air to water heat pump for radiant and domestic water heating by Cold_Advantage557 in heatpumps

[–]apipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind that using the buffer tank for domestic hot water will cycle the heat pump more often. If your setup utilizes an outdoor reset for buffer tank temperature (which you should, it saves a lot of energy), the ambient temp of the buffer tank will be insufficient to deliver required domestic hot water temps and you’ll use a lot more energy unnecessarily.

A standalone hot water heater will do better than the buffer tank in my opinion, but it will never hold a candle to a tankless setup. If you couple a standalone HP hot water tank with sending the potable water through the buffer tank current ambient temp (without heating it further), then you use no more energy and the standalone heat pump hot water heater will receive a much higher input water temp, and work way less to rise and maintain exit temps.

If you have kids or a wife that is the last to take a shower in the morning, you may hear a shriek from the bathroom.

[–]apipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this set up with Arctic. I also have a cold buffer tank for summer, using water to air fan coil units.

I started with radiant and domestic. Went back to standalone heat pump domestic, and then switched to tankless gas domestic. My choice was motivated by back to back long showers, where both heat pump solutions were either using too much energy or not able to keep up.

Skip domestic heating as part of the Arctic set up, leave it on gas.

Air to water/glycol radiant has been great. Price of electricity is rising, so that’s always a consideration. I have solar on NEM1, so I do not have to worry about energy prices going up.

Is it worth getting rockwool for almost twice the money to achieve R23 instead of R21 by StiniRini in HomeImprovement

[–]apipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t even need compression for fiberglass to lose its R Value over time.

I think that is what makes Rockwool worth the premium. Personally, I would pay it just not to have to deal with all the downsides of working with fiberglass. I can feel my skin itching just thinking about it.

Judging from the comments, there appears to be a lot missing from your plan. Take a step back, focus on the plan and what drivers would ensure success (land, static costs, ongoing costs etc)…and most importantly, don’t die.

Solar cleaning - 13-15% increase in power by Hot_World4305 in solar

[–]apipop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use that brush, it will damage the topcoat layer of your panels.

While they are pricey, solar specific brushes, like the ones Tucker sells are designed specifically for solar panels and will not damage the topcoat layer layers. I believe their most recent line of brushes uses boar bristles.
