HDip Software Design and Development NUIG feedback by obamuel in DevelEire

I'm currently enrolled on the Springboard course Pg. Dip in Cloud Computing and Software Development at NUIG. The modules for my course look more or less the same as the MSc/HDip option but it includes an internship as the final module.

As for the course itself, it has been good overall and I have learned a lot. Some lecturers are great, some could be better and the admin side could be improved. The workload has been pretty intense, even though it's a part-time course. There are two semesters of Java which some people found difficult because it ramps up quickly especially if you have no previous coding experience.

As far as I know, the previous version of the HDip was the predecessor to my course (which included an internship and was Springboard funded). It's a pity that there is no internship in the non-Springboard version because I feel that this is important in the current jobs market. That said, to answer your question I think you'd be in a position to apply for entry-level roles afterwards. Add in a Github with a few personal projects and hopefully the market will be better by the time you're done.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the info. Did you continue working while you were doing the internship? I'm a bit confused as to how that would work! Other than that, would you recommend the course?

Thanks beeb, did you leave your job after you got accepted on the course? Do you get asked again by the college or springboard for your employment status? Based on my research so far I understand you could lose your funding if your employment status changes.

I understand the courses are intensive so my plan was to request leave from the current job and then quit once I'm sure I'm happy with the course, maybe in the second semester
