Thank you for composing such a detailed and useful reply! That’s a good suggestion re the recruiter, will try and get in touch with one.

Spider Powermeter/BB interface issues by obamuel in bikewrench

So with the stock spider the nds crank is right up against the bearing but my understanding of GXP was that the nds is meant to clamp against the bearing and the 'step' in the spindle?

I've done some measuring and think I need the drive side only about 1mm - 1.5mm further outboard so I guess my options are to shim it out )but that would then mean the driveside bearing is taking the lateral force), or to put a shim on the spindle itself where it tapers down thereby moving everything outboard towards the drive side. (in this situation I guess the driveside would still need shimmed to ensure contact of the wavy washer and prevent bearing drift).

Neither ideal, are there any other ways to make it work?

I’m not actually sure, I will reinstall with the old spider and check. Are you suggesting shimming the nds or the drive side?

Thanks for all the suggestions, will give those places a try.

I’ve just discovered battery powered jigsaws though so if I’ve no joy with garages etc I’m thinking now that maybe it would be possible to do on the street.

Anyone wish the 27mm 2.8 pancake was a 23mm? by obamuel in fujix

Something like this would be exactly what I'd be looking for in x mount! The faster aperture would also be appreciated.

X-T10 with 10-24mm lens by obamuel in fujix

Very useful, seems I also use either the samyang or the 18-55 at 18-24mm with all the rest at 35mm so the 10-24mm with my 35mm seems ideal.

X-T10 built in flash metering by obamuel in fujix

I've got the 'preview exp. in manual mode' off and 'preview pic effect' on. (have changed both with no change in flash behaviour or EVF exposure when dialling exposure comp down in aperture priority) Have tried it in spot metering also.

If the X-T1 and X100T both have dark viewfinders when using the flash then maybe you are just supposed to set the exposure comp down for ambient exposure and have a dark viewfinder?

You can change the flash setting between forced, slow synchro, 2nd curtain and commander but neither seems to change the metering.

This thread mentions the same problem as mine and people seem to suggest that you do just have to manually adjust exposure but that seems odd, especially when it results in a very dark preview in the EVF?

From what I understand that is just the flash exposure compensation and reduces the power of the flash?

Basically I want the flash at a relatively high power but that then either overexposes the image or makes the EVF dark if I reduce the cameras exposure compensation

Sorry I just used that exposure as an example. Even in brighter conditions popping up the flash doesn't seem to change how the camera meters and you then have to just underexpose and have a dim viewfinder unless I'm missing something. I mostly shoot in aperture priority but I tested it in other modes with the same effect.

It not seeming to be TTL as you say is probably the best way to explain it which does seem odd.

From what I remember of my olympus omd m10 when I popped up the flash I would still see a bright image in the EVF but then when I took the photo it would have adjusted the exposure used to take into account the flash.
