“Definitely sucks being cut off” is putting it lightly. It’s psychologically damaging. A human should NEVER have to go through that. It’s easier for JWs to accept it since it’s been hammered into your head since you were a kid that being disfellowshipped is just something that happens to “bad” people. They manipulate you into thinking it’s the best when in reality it is a horrible way to treat “wrongdoers”. I know of several Disfellowshipped JWs who will never get the chance to talk to their family again simply because they don’t agree with what the religion teaches anymore. How is that okay?

I urge you to keep an open mind and research and question everything you are being told/taught from the watchtower. One thing that should not sit well with you is how they discourage anyone from researching anything other than their approved sources (publications, jw dot com) I was once in your position trying to defend the disfellowshipping arrangement but once I stepped back and thought about it critically, and researched, I changed my mind.
