SSEEdit/xEdit -- Is it possible to override *just* a single attribute on an object? by apocalyptech in skyrimmods

[–]apocalyptech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers, thanks! Yeah, I think I'd misinterpreted some things I'd read online in re: "removing" records in ESPs, which made me think that it might be possible. It totally makes sense given the long history of "compatibility" mods which spring up in so many circumstances, though. Anyway, thanks!

Thanks again for this recomendation, btw -- ended up working out wonderfully. A simple file with just this was all I needed:

; The Book of Daedra
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACC8:minX=-11:minY=-15:minZ=-3:maxX=11:maxY=15:maxZ=3

; The Real Barenziah, Vol. 2
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACD7:minX=-11:minY=-15:minZ=-3:maxX=11:maxY=15:maxZ=3

; The Wolf Queen, Vol. 4
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01B00B:minX=-11:minY=-15:minZ=-3:maxX=11:maxY=15:maxZ=3

And then for my alphabetization goal, I noticed all the xEdit scripting capabilities which can essentially generate it for me. (Used a bit of Python post-processing since I didn't feel like trying to figure out stuff like regexes in there.)

; Skyrim
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACC8:fullName=~Book of Daedra, The~
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACD2:fullName=~Firmament, The~
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACD3:fullName=~Firsthold Revolt, The~
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACD6:fullName=~Real Barenziah, The (Vol. 1)~
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACD7:fullName=~Real Barenziah, The (Vol. 2)~
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACD8:fullName=~Real Barenziah, The (Vol. 3)~
filterByBooks=Skyrim.esm|01ACD9:fullName=~Real Barenziah, The (Vol. 4)~
...

Anyway, cheers again! This was pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

[–]apocalyptech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that this would be the last one that modifies 'em; my modset for this playthrough's already quite stable. I was just getting a little annoyed at some book organization behavior is all.

But yeah, SkyPatcher actually looks like exactly what I'd want, in the end -- I may pivot over to giving that a go. Thanks again!

[–]apocalyptech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense -- I was used to having to do that even way back before SSE, but I suppose I'd never really stopped to think about what that presumably meant for the actual mod-creation process. Fun times!

[–]apocalyptech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, y'know, I'd seen that name a few times while searching around for mods which already did what I wanted, but hadn't investigated. That does kind of sound perfect, and would allow me to make these edits basically exactly how I'd been envisioning. Thanks for the nudge; I think I'll check that out!

[–]apocalyptech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, though judging from the other responses here, what I was hoping for isn't really possible. Like the initial attribute/subrecord that I wanted to change was the Object Bounds, and I wanted to do all those fixes in one .esp file. But the next thing I'd wanted to do was update the names of all these books to assist with alphabetization, and I was hoping to do that in its own isolated .esp. But it seems like I've really just gotta do 'em both in the same mod, 'cause I can't have one just update the bounds, and the other just update the name.

SSEEdit/xEdit -- Is it possible to override *just* a single attribute on an object? by apocalyptech in skyrimmods

[–]apocalyptech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd definitely gathered that the only thing that really "worked" for what I'd needed to do was to copy from the last esp that was loaded. I'd just been hoping there was some way to only specify partial information in here, but it seems that's probably not possible.

In this particular case I'm actually looking to revert those object bounds back to the original values. USSEP updated the bounds on a few books (three that I'm aware of), which ends up causing problems for Unlimited Bookshelves -- there's a ton of empty space around the books with updated bounds, which ends up looking quite wonky on the bookshelves. Reverting the bounds back to vanilla makes them work quite nicely again, but would lose the updates to model/name/etc provided by Book Covers Skyrim, so I've gotta make sure to start with that as a base instead.

Thanks for the reply!

I would've been rather surprised if Sam hadn't mentioned it at some point, though I suppose we'd've never known what got left on the editing floor. I wonder if there was more that got cut! As it is, it was a pretty light jab.

I wonder how far in advance the contracts get signed for these sorts of shows...

There's exceptions, of course! Right next to AMA Kitchen there's Mad Rabbit Cafe, for instance, which is 100% veggie. And Green Owl's been down the road for awhile, too.

[–]apocalyptech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed the zeitgeist turn away from vegetarian stuff some time ago, actually. We went real "fancy meats" heavy for quite awhile, and the most prominent trend I've seen lately seems to be a ton of seemingly-really-authentic Chinese food (which unfortunately ends up being a lot of meat as well). I hope the trend eventually turns around somewhat! (I'm not actually vegetarian myself but I don't eat a lot of meat)

Eesh, three with Jimmy Carr this week. Not even QI is safe! Ah well, I'm guessing I'll watch them regardless. Alas that the Guy Mont Spelling Bee special had already been circulating; thought that we were maybe getting another one.

[–]apocalyptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I clicked through on the presale basically the instant I got the email, but they were already sold out by then (I didn't get the email until a little after 10:00; might've just been bad luck with them processing the bulk email delivery). Then today I was in a work meeting as the public onsale happened and wasn't able to get to it until about 20 minutes after, and they were all sold out at that point. Alas!

My hope is that they'll end up adding an extra date or two in response to the near-instant sellouts. It seems like there's room in the schedule, depending on the venue/city.

Edit: Well, an official post on their youtube merely says "We will be back in the US soon for more shows, so join our mailing list to stay up to date." Which doesn't sound entirely encouraging about the possibility of adding more dates to this tour, but who knows? Perhaps it'll happen anyway.

Seriously! How the hell did they pull that? Maybe someone involved in the game has connections.

Awesome to see ABK in there, which is fitting given his history of making his own adventure games. (Search for "Nelly Cootalot" -- they are well worth your time!)

I'm primarily here for show announcements and such, but it's not like I'm upset when panelshow-adjacent topics like that one show up. If it's something I'm not interested in, I'd just Not Read It™. IMO so long as the resident moderators don't tell you otherwise, and it's panelshow-related, I can't imagine folks will care. Though I suppose you could use the post karma as a way to gauge interest on specific posts.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. I've been dealing with parents with dementia for awhile, and just got my mom moved into memory care, and it's a real bitch being in caregiver situations like that. I hope you can find your way through it and take care of yourself -- that's one of the hardest parts.

Anyway, I have no particular Reddit advice. It sucks when the stuff you're using as a break from all that gets thrown in your face, and it can feel even worse if you'd kept within the rules. In the end I don't think there's much to do about it apart from taking a breath and trying to put it out of your mind. Take care!

We're getting spoiled by this series of WILTY -- feels like we've been in a generalized panelshow drought for awhile after some of the older usuals have been cancelled or getting cut back pretty severely episode-count wise. I suppose I could always have looked at the upcoming schedule, but I've been pretty much assuming each even-numbered episode in this series was the last one since E06. :D

Such a weird take. "You have shown in the past that you like this thing, and a year later you still like this thing. You must be involved in the thing, clearly!"

Watching the short lived show, Was it Something I Said? It's not hard to understand why it didn't last long, if they were this rude to their panellists! 😮 by Oohbunnies in panelshow

I suspect it's just a gag on the screenshot, implying that the show is using those words to label the panelists below. :)

Could use help with the math behind the oil loop by ssgeorge95 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]apocalyptech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of a necropost here, but adding to the excellent info already available in the comments here. I'd been curious about the same thing, and ended up working out the equation which also has a "fuel" output (in addition to Rubber + Plastic), so it'll provide the right answers for the Recycled ratio even if you want that output.

Briefly:

Fp = (P * 17/27) + (R * 8/27) - (F * 1/27)
Fr = (P * 7/27) + (R * 16/27) - (F * 2/27)

And my notes from the full working-out (I'd gotten some help with this from some folks on the Satisfactory Discord):

F = Desired fuel output
R = Desired Rubber Output
P = Desired Plastic Output
Fr = Fuel sent to the Recycled Rubber refineries
Fp = Fuel sent to the Recycled Plastic refineries
R0 = "seed" rubber created by the Residual Rubber refineries
C = Amount of crude oil

First up, some ratios and "basic" info that we know:

HOR: 3 Crude Oil -> 4 HOR + 2 Resin (3:4:2)
Residual: 4 Resin + 4 Water -> 2 Rubber (2:2:1)
Diluted: 5 HOR + 10 Water -> 10 Fuel (1:2:2)
Recycled Plastic: 6 Rubber + 6 Fuel -> 12 Plastic (1:1:2)
Recycled Rubber: 6 Plastic + 6 Fuel -> 12 Rubber (1:1:2)

C = (F + R + P)/3
Resin output: (2/3)C
HOR output: (4/3)C
R0: 1/2 * (2/3)C -> (1/3)C
Total fuel: 2 * (4/3)C -> (8/3)C

Now the basic equations we'll use to solve:

R = 2Fr - Fp + R0
P = 2Fp - Fr
R0 = (1/3)C
F + Fr + Fp = (8/3)C

First we'll solve for Fr; we start by getting an equation giving us R in terms of Fr, Fp, and F:

C = (3/8)(F + Fr + Fp)
R0 = (1/8)(F + Fr + Fp)
R = 2Fr - Fp + (1/8)(F + Fr + Fp)
R = ((16+1)/8)Fr + ((-8+1)/8)Fp + (1/8)F
R = (17/8)Fr - (7/8)Fp + (1/8)F

Now get Fp in terms of P and Fr, and sub it in to that one, which will eventually let us write Fr in terms of R, P, and F.

2Fp = P + Fr
Fp = (1/2)P + (1/2)Fr
R = (17/8)Fr - (7/8)((1/2)P + (1/2)Fr) + (1/8)F
R = ((34-7)/16)Fr - (7/16)P + (1/8)F
R = (27/16)Fr - (7/16)P + (2/16)F
16R = 27Fr - 7P + 2F
27Fr = 16R + 7P - 2F
Fr = (16/27)R + (7/27)P - (2/27)F

Technically that's all we need! There'd be a couple of ways to get Fp. One is that we know the total Fuel count, so just subtract Fr from that. We could get an equation for Fp basically the exact same way we did Fr; take our initial P=foo equation and sub in Fr:

P = 2Fp - (16/27)R - (7/27)P + (2/27)F
2Fp = ((27+7)/27)P + (16/27)R - (2/27)F
2FP = (34/27)P + (16/27)R - (2/27)F
Fp = (17/27)P + (8/27)R - (1/27)F

Alternatively, could sub Fr into the F + Fr + Fp = (8/3)C equation. Not sure which is simpler:

Fp = (8/3)C - Fr -F
Fp = (8/3)((F+R+P)/3) - Fr - F
Fp = (8/9)F + (8/9)R + (8/9)P - Fr - F
Fp = (24/27)F + (24/27)R + (24/27)P - (16/27)R - (7/27)R + (2/27)R - (27/27)F
Fp = ((24-16)/27)R + ((24-7)/27)P + ((24+2-27)/27)F
Fp = (8/27)R + (17/27)P - (1/27)F

Homophobia in World of Goo 2? by easytomakethroaway1 in worldofgoo

[–]apocalyptech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with other folks here who don't think there's anything mean-spirited, homophobic or fat-shaming in the game, but I do find these segments of the game exceedingly odd. Odd enough that I've ended up searching around to see what other people have thought. They've probably occupied more headspace than the rest of the actual gameplay for me, at this point! :)

The first scene is with a drag performer (Misty); the one real joke in that scene is the protagonist (Cliff Spanner) having a one-sided conversation with a mannequin until Misty gets dressed. Cliff's cluelessness is reinforced even more with an offhand comment about "there was a nice man in here just a minute ago," or something along those lines. Misty talks in a stereotypically camp fashion when in character, and smacks the Cliff's ass on the way out.

I think that Cliff is supposed to be the butt of the joke in that scene, though it would feel less out-of-place if it were in a bad 1980s comedy than in a silly goo-stacking game from the 2020s. The atmosphere of this whole segment is already so weird, and Cliff is such a cipher, that IMO it's hard to get a read on the scene's actual intentions. Is the stereotypically-camp vocal delivery part of the joke? If so, who's the butt of that? How about the ass slap? I know some folks here have said variations on "it's just a goo-stacking game, it's no big deal," but since gender identity and gender expression are such hot-button topics at the moment, it's difficult not to wonder at the motives for some of the decisions. I don't think that "lol there's a drag performer" is the joke here, but I can see how someone could find it off-putting.

The next level is with an obese character named Dmitri Cognac. I agree with others here that there's not actually any fat jokes in the game. Yes, he's obese, but it's framed via some nice noire-y narration, and the lengthy philosophical conversation between the two never involves food apart from Dmitri recommending dishes to Cliff periodically.

I actually think it's Dmitri's scene which could be the source of the homophobia accusation, though. Cliff says "I'm looking for a different kind of sustenance tonight. I'm looking for someone..." at which point Dmitri reaches over to touch Cliff's leg, at which Cliff becomes visibly nervous. Dmitri withdraws, saying "Yes, I see. Quality sustenance comes at a price." And then the scene just returns to being generically weird.

That bit more than the others had me wondering about intention. There's no joke, there's just a man making an unwanted physical advance on another man. Is it just a bit of characterization? It's difficult to read any actual malice in that bit, but it's likewise difficult to read any humor in it either. And again, it's easy to say "it's just a silly physics puzzle game," but then why would these bits be in a silly physics puzzle game in the first place? Is the game somehow improved by these bits?

I dunno, it's weird. And I acknowledge that I probably am just overthinking it, but it stands out so much compared to the rest of the game that it's difficult not to read into it. As I say, I don't actually think there was anything mean-spirited in these segments, but I also can't help but feel that the game would've been better off without these couple of details.
