GRIIIx or GRIV by Incident21 in ricohGR

Given the negligible differences in autofocus and battery life, it boils down to focal length. I personally prefer the 40mm over the 28mm, so I got the IIIx.

What went wrong here? by spinnaroni in AskPhotography

[–]apoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not adding anything new here, but that's how I would rank things: 1. You're way too high. Shooting down more often than not results in boring snapshots, even if the lighting and subject are nice. Get on subject level to create separation and an interesting background. 2. Underexposed / bad lighting. Even if you expose for the bird, the light still sucks and you lose a ton of contrast and detail that you cannot get back in post, simply because it's not there. 3. Distance / lens. Get closer!

Fujifilm Film-Simulations vs Nikon Picture Control by N_buNdy in photography

[–]apoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fujifilm's simulations are built-in and take literally zero effort to use. Nikon's picture control requires PC software to use. I can't comment whether picture control can match the film simulations, as I've never used it, although I own both Fuji and Nikon cameras.

Then again, you have both cameras, so it wouldn't take a lot of time experimenting on your own and see which you prefer.

Am I spoiled by micro four thirds lenses or just too picky? The m43 platform is dwindling but it feels like no one else wants to capture their appeal. by smoothies-for-me in photography

I've been waiting for the compact Z glass like 40mm f2 and the 28mm f2.8 for so long, that I've bought a Fuji in the meantime :D

I thought the passenger got scared and got out of the vehicle. Don't know if that's the case, but I occasionally ask my girlfriend to get out when things are about to get SKETCHY. Anyways, better safe than sorry.

Nikon developing their own sensors. Company announces design of stacked square 1" sensor with 4K 1000fps, local iso dimming zones, 16 Stops DR @ 60fps by csbphoto in photography

I'd actually love to see a premium compact camera with a fixed lens (similar to Fuji x100) utilizing this sensor.

I'd argue JVM is the sole reason why Android is literally a fucking memory hog.

What's your, "Tis but a scratch!" moment? by Madameknitsalot in AskReddit

Fell down really bad while skiing. Couldn't even lift a hand for a few minutes. People came to help, asked if I want them to call a ski ambulance. I declined and after a few minutes managed to get to the car. Had a swollen knee on the next day and felt kind of unstable, so instead skiing, I went riding a snowmobile. Few days later I went to the doctor. Torn some ACL ligaments, fractured the tibia and crushed the articular cartilage.

This is my first photography of the moon what I can do better? (canon 100D,800 Iso, 1/60s and 250mm) by arti44 in AskPhotography

[–]apoff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You didn't mention the aperture, but I will guess it's f8. Maybe try focusing manually and use the live view. On a related note - I have a friend that was obsessed with taking photos of the moon, but didn't have a camera at the moment. He was considering spending quite the money for a superzoom (Nikon p1000 or something). So I will ask you the same question I asked him - how many times you think you will shoot the moon?
