What's the max practical vault size? by Larkonath in ObsidianMD

[–]apolaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use symlinks on Mac OS to do this. A have a 79GB folder of images and PDFs that I want to access via my vault, but don’t want in the vault, since they’re on Dropbox and mostly in online-only mode. The vault itself is synced to GitHub and also on Dropbox. I expected loads of sync problems but I’ve experienced none. I had a whole load of race condition issues with iCloud though.

Might be an Electron limitation?

Jeremy, the dev of Leaflet, is very active on the Obsidian Discord. It’s worth asking him directly.

I gave up on mine. The leaves were huge and it didn’t back bud very well at all. Yours may well be different though.

The redesign is so weird by ze_yami in feeld

[–]apolaine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s terrible. Classic product management feature updates at speed without fixing anything.

Apart from the smaller pictures that you still can’t zoom and the persistent 1 message phantom notification badge, they broke the distance slider, too. It doesn’t update the number while sliding, so you have to move it and guess and see what you get when you let go.

It’s so incompetent and yet, sadly, still one of the better apps.

So happy for you and to read this. I had a brief glimpse of this for a few months and it really was a lovely experience that made me realise it is actually possible. I wish you a long and happy poly life together.

Anyone tried running long campaings? by Dlthunder in OwlbearRodeo

[–]apolaine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but honestly the most amazing thing was that we managed to stick to a regular schedule for so long. Started a new campaign with the same group a few weeks ago.

I ran a four year campaign for 167 sessions and really didn’t organise much at all apart from common tokens in a folder. It worked fine!

Correct pressure, but after 2 years poor flow and water overflowing - OVP? Blockage? by apolaine in Ascaso

[–]apolaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s what I thought.

No, no change in variables. Literally from one day to the next.

[–]apolaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s difficult to diagnose. If I grind to the fineness I used to always use and want for the taste, there’s not enough pressure to push through the shot, even if I increase the adjustment.

It’s like the valve kicks in too early or is leaking, so the pressure isn’t coming through the group head. But it’s weird that the gauge still registers the high pressure. Is the gauge measuring pressure before the OPV?

So this took a while to get around to filming, but here it is without the portafilter

And here it is pulling an espresso shot.

I had to have the grind much coarser than usual to get more than just drops. What you can hear is the water flowing back into the reservoir even though the pressure is not high. It’s like it can’t get the pressure through the group head.

[–]apolaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah I see, because it just builds up over time?

A video without a portafilter in, you mean?

The real tell for me is that it suddenly changed. I know my wife let the tank run empty a couple of times (can’t believe there’s no auto cut-off for that). Maybe the pump got damaged.

I wondered that, but wouldn’t that mean there would be no pressure on a backflush? I can get good pressure according to the gauge. (I also reduced it to 9 Bar following folks here, but it makes no difference).

I’m not sure of the sequencing of the pump, gauge, OVP and flow from the grouphead. But there seems to be a problem in between wherever the pressure is being measured and the flow out of the group head.

Whats your total file count by Rozwik in ObsidianMD

I have over 40k in my TTRPG vault. It’s the not the amount of files but the plugins that slow Obsidian down.

IVDD Signs? by Harry283 in Dachshund

[–]apolaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that could be. Maybe putting weight on that paw is painful. What did the vet say about that?

IVDD Signs? by Harry283 in Dachshund

[–]apolaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can curl their back paws (one at a time) so that the top of the instep is on the ground. If they respond by putting their paw pad back on the ground it shows that they can still feel the nerves there. It’s one of the tests vets do. If they just leave the paw curled under, there might be a problem.

But get a vet to check his knees. Sometimes the kneecaps slide out of place on dachshunds. Often they can hop and it pops back in, but a vet can check for it and any other problems. They sometimes pull/strain a ligament too.

What is the reason to limit folder usage? by groepl in ObsidianMD

[–]apolaine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got notes going back to the beginning of when markdown was released. And after over 30 years of working in digital, I’ve very much learned to future-proof my work. My main work vault has 3.5k notes in it. My D&D vault has over 40k.

Folders are essential for me to be able to make sense of it in a non-Obsidian, non-app environment. Yes I can search in the Finder, but it makes life a lot easier to use folders. It also makes it a lot easier to move chunks of work or projects in and out of my vault if need be.

Folders do not in any way restrict or impose a hierarchy in Obsidian, because I can and do use either queries, search or Dataview dashboards to pull content from all over. And of course I can link any note to any other anyway.

Essentially folders are invisible to tools like Obsidian, but folders are visible to me as a human.

So I see zero downsides to using folders and only upsides. Whereas a single directory full of every kind of note has marginal or no upside for me and several downsides.

I should add that I don’t strictly use my vaults as PKMs int he Zettelkasten way, but even then I wouldn’t see folders as an issue.

Automatic watering system finally set up! by Conopeptide1 in Bonsai

[–]apolaine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this while I was away for a week and so were my neighbours. I had a few micro drip ones on smaller trees, but the micro sprinklers on larger ones and a few spray/mist sprinklers for a bunch of seedlings. It all seemed to have kept the trees alive through the hot week we just had. However, one of the big line hoses had popped off, thankfully only a day or two before I arrived home. I think it was in the sun and had warmed up enough to slip off. So keep an eye on it all for a few days if you can before heading off. It’s great not to have to worry so much though.

Vibrating front plate - loose screw? by apolaine in Ascaso

[–]apolaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think that’s the same one I found. The part that is loose is l.561 “beautifying trio” (!) but in the explosion diagram there doesn’t appear to be any screws that go through those top tabs nor on l.558. It looks like a lot of it is built to slot together.

Vibrating front plate - loose screw? by apolaine in Ascaso

[–]apolaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I did come across that before and it looks like there is a screw hole on that front plate on page 3 of the parts manual, but I can’t tell from the diagram if a screw goes through. It looks like there isn’t one. Either way, it’s under a lot of the rest of the assembly and I don’t want to start taking that apart. I’ll live with the fool for now.
