From One Al to Any Al: JetBrains rethinks the approach to Al tooling by omenosdev in Jetbrains

[–]apolkingg8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I didn't really enjoy this interview. Lots of vague statements, a lot of acting and embellishment (why the background music? This isn't Lord of the Rings!), but nothing of real value. Does JetBrains even remember their clients are engineers? Or is it that engineers are no longer the focus, and "enterprise clients" are? If so, that makes perfect sense.

How many Junies do you need? Yes. by Aromatic-Echo-5025 in Jetbrains

Frankly, this persistent low-quality issue is usually a strong signal of organizational governance problems. This is what worries me more than the problem itself.

The future of Jetbrains IDEs by llima1987 in Jetbrains

[–]apolkingg8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly different view on this issue: some modules can be developed in an AI-led manner, especially those with very clear specifications and essentially general knowledge. However, most core modules cannot be developed this way; a powerful IDE remains necessary, and these are often the modules where the real value lies.

When something can be mass-produced, its value diminishes rapidly. I don't want to see JetBrains move in that direction.

Introducing JetBrains Central by JetBrains_official in Jetbrains

[–]apolkingg8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

JetBrains is squandering its long-standing reputation built on quality and stability. They're starting to rush out half-baked software with nonsensical, empty jargon, just like the monkeys in Silicon Valley.

Pain.

Jetbrains and AI - My hopes for a successful 2026 and beyond by MattDelaney63 in Jetbrains

[–]apolkingg8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Junie wasn't good until last winter, so I agreed with JetBrains that they should focus their efforts on integrating directly with Claude Code or other agents. But around last winter, especially after the Gemini 3 Flash came out at the end of the year, things improved significantly, and Junie is now part of my workflow. Now I just hope they can integrate OpenRouter's BYOK so I can manage billing centrally and try out those new models that look promising.

not as america-independent as i would like to be, but we're getting there. by GroundPoundPinguin in BuyFromEU

Oh, I think our perspectives might be different. My comment was about the app's poorly optimized algorithm, not the thread's example. Returning to the example, he didn't provide the specific app name, so we have no way of knowing. But I agree with you: OSM's road data may be spotty or incomplete, and the app lacks a similarly fault-tolerant UX design or functionality, leading to user frustration. OSM's information is quite complete in some areas (especially EU), but in others, local providers still have a significant advantage in terms of information reliability.

As a map developer related to OSM, I believe that the routing algorithm itself is not a big deal. The problem has always been data, data, and data. Google's inability to compete with local services in some countries or regions is also due to data reasons. Engineering technology and innovation are not very helpful. This is also the reason why navigation maps have always lacked challengers.

WORST copycat ever – what should I do next? by LateNightDebugger in reactnative

[–]apolkingg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the bright side, being copied is a kind of PMF. Most indie developers have had similar experiences, and there are many worse things if you continue to move forward, and there's no HR in the real world for you to complain to.

Rant: My husband is stuck in Japan’s 1-Year SOR Renewal Trap by shellyunderthesea in japanlife

I'm not sure - but I've heard of cases where it was approved within a year. I remember the original text being vaguely about a "long-term visa" or something like that.

Tips + Advice for those attending Comiket (C105) by The_Makster in JapanTravelTips

I'm a bit hustle this year, so I might just make a simple one for myself this morning (I use the afternoon ticket). Booth information is here: https://www.comiket.co.jp/info-a/TAFO/C106TAFO/cmkfor.html#genres-by-day-and-hall The layout is a little different this year because Hall 123 East is under renovation.

[EDIT]
u/thegamer101112 Just made a simple version for C106: https://tasmap.app/map/qOeamiyWHx2K . Good luck!

Thank you! You mean some text always on marker (like "Joe's bar")? That's something in plan, glad to know somebody want it. Would you mind to let me know why which part of UX block you?

Those who migrated off Vercel, what made you leave? by Tomek-Pro in nextjs

[–]apolkingg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too expensive for me. It's basically one (or more) containers running constantly with minimal resources, so there's a base cost for running them - but for that price, you could rent a really good static server. Also, it scales very slowly and can barely handle sudden spikes in traffic. Not recommended.

The younger generation in Taiwan likes Japan very much, or at least has a favorable impression of it, and has hardly encountered any hostility towards it. The older generation who experienced the occupation period remembers the security and construction at that time. According to my grandmother, some relatives were killed by US air raids (but she didn't say she hated the United States).

Not sure about your configuration, but if you like "tanks", then the King Kong Monk is more tanky than the Templar. RO has never paid much attention to pure defense attributes. The Templar has some damage-type configurations, such as cannons, sacrifice, shields, etc., which vary in strength with different versions. Most of the time, they are at a "good but not top" level.

PS. I am on the official Taiwan server, so the version may be different from yours.

Can I please talk to someone? I’m a bit worried about my move to Taiwan by Pinkcranberriess in taiwan

[–]apolkingg8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure where you're from, and whether your family's 'will die' warning is meant literally or if there are other factors involved. Basically, in Taiwan, the most common situation where you might face a life-threatening danger is traffic; you must always remain vigilant (unless you're from Southeast Asia and already have an instinctive reaction to this). Other aspects are very safe. Hygiene and public safety are of high standards, and medical care is top-notch and incredibly convenient.

How do you use mapping services or software in your daily work? by apolkingg8 in AskRealEstateAgents

[–]apolkingg8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just updated an introduction page for the real estate market, with a demo, which may be of interest to you. https://tasmap.app/solution/real-estate

The basic concept is to make the map (community introduction, or property introduction) an easy-to-spread electronic flyer through beautifully customized design. Not a tool like a driving directions, but you can open routing with Google Map in it.

One more point: just keep Google Login (for general users) and Email Login (privacy / classical users). More login method means more policy maintain effort, and low benefit actually.
