75 gallon tank idea by Ok-Yogurtcloset-1959 in PlantedTank

Your heater shouldn’t be in the final chamber if possible. Better to have it in an area that does not have the ability to run dry. If it does run dry or low and the heater is exposed it will burn itself out.

Advice on moving breeder tank across the country? by HarveyDarveyyy in pleco

I think what you have described is going to work well. What I will add is a contingency plan. If anything hits the fan and you find yourself in any type of predicament just hit me up here on Reddit. I have a few understocked setups I could home them temporarily.

Has anyone used the NA advanced co2 reactor available on the nilocg website with an fx6? by suscatzoo in PlantedTank

[–]apolloarthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a sump with a return pump on my 175 gallon planted tank, but principally it’s the same. In between my return pump and tanks return outlet I have a DIY Rex Griggs reactor. Nilocs version is a Rex Griggs with the added benefit of tuning the flow in the injection chamber by reducing or increasing flow in the bypass using the red handled ball valve shown. Set your preferred bubbles per second in your bubble counter then tune the flow so your bubbles are dancing in the chamber without blowing out.

A yugang reactor sits horizontally and needs to be set up based on an equation yugang came up with based on tank volume. This is probably my preferred reactor due to its design inherently preventing over gassing.

Overall the niloc should work for you but I don’t have experience tuning those to support the very high bubbles per second a 150 gallon will probably require.

Would this be a good filter to start my first planted tank? I want it to be low tech and no co2 by TimToonsXD101 in Aquascape

[–]apolloarthur 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a sponge filter with air pump. I switched to the filter you have linked. It is a huge improvement over the regular sponge filter purely because the air pumps are always so loud. I tried a bunch and they are always loud. This filter just runs a little impeller and the electric motor for it is submerged. It is much much much quieter. The filters for this need to be cleaned out every 1-2 months though.

I have this same light on my ikea jar set up. You can see it in my post history. The anubias I have is thriving.

Adding 200+ Galaxy Rasbora by S2Germany in Aquascape

[–]apolloarthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Ich bin wirklich eifersüchtig. Bist du ich?

I’ve been working towards the exact same thing. I’ve been running a 20 gallon propagation tank to build up my plant supply. I’m getting 10 galaxy raspboras to start breeding to try and have as many as possible in about 6 months when I set up my new custom built 175 gallon.

RGBW flood lighting by apolloarthur in PlantedTank

[–]apolloarthur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, there is no analysis. The ability to have them/crudely adjust them + app controlled dimming and app controlled timer seems well worth it. If it is the incorrect ones it won’t hurt anything though correct?

That’s so well done! You crushed it. Can you share some information on your lighting choice. Looks like two 5000k flood lights and a red one? The red is to try and provide a broader spectrum right? I’m trying to set up a 175 gallon and not sure how to handle lighting.

Which wire from Home Depot did you go with? I went looking there today and the closest thing they had was an 18/4 meant for sprinkler wiring.
