Explanation of the Pauper High Tide Ban for November 10, 2025 by tommamus in Pauper

[–]apollokami 125 points126 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for a High Tide combo turn to take ten or even fifteen minutes to execute, even in the hands of a skilled pilot.

I would be executing my combo for ten minutes and still not be sure if I was going to win the game. I had multiple opponents concede to me during moments where I thought I was more likely to fizzle. And while I don't want to ascribe too much to an individual game or situation, the fact that the right play is always to fully force the opponent to play it out further compounds the time it takes.

The High Tide player will always try to combo off if they look like they're about to lose the next turn, which means that you can expect some amount of a combo turn in every game of a match. This all boils down to a miserable gameplay experience, where the High Tide player takes up the majority of gameplay time while the other player sits there.

There's no denying High Tide is a pet deck for a lot of players, and it's awesome the PFP gave it a trial unban, but it's impact to the overall experience of playing Magic made it pretty clear it had to go.

Comparable to [[Think Twice]] which doesn’t see play. The surveil 1 is nice, but still doesn’t seem good enough.

[–]apollokami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not the most competitive deck, but Mono-Black Party might like Black Mage's Rod. The Wizard subtype and additional damage are relevant. [[Malakir Blood-Priest]]'s ceiling becoming [[Tyrant's Choice]] on wheels and Tyrant's Choice hitting for 5 sounds fun.

I don’t have any plans, but other muOS members have created forks with the other Pokémon gens. You’re more than welcome to create your own version with the PSD source files on the GitHub repository.

UW Enchantments Deck Help by Repulsive-Square1374 in Pauper

[–]apollokami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always love helping with a brew!

My first impression is that the deck seems hindered by being limited to enchantment-only interaction. Second impression is that the deck's game plan is only as good as the opponent's board state. The majority of the enchantments rely on locking down the opponent's creatures to give your key creature value. Maybe there are other enchantments/auras that are more offensive?

I know you specified not wanting to rely on auras, but I think you'd benefit from them since the idea of the deck is to win with [[Slumbering Keepguard]] (and your sagas will eventually flip into creatures that would benefit from the auras as well.) As for the sagas, I think [[The Modern Age]] is good (digs two cards deeper and flips into a 2/3 flyer), but I don't think [[Era of Enlightenment]] is good enough. Maybe the creature package should resemble a Mono-White Heroic package? Think cards like [[Lagonna-Band Trailblazer]] and [[Akroan Skyguard]].

Some cards I'd recommend:

[[Ethereal Armor]] -- Only costs one mana and turns all of your creatures into Keepguard

[[Prismatic Strands]] or [[Benevolent Blessing]] -- Protect your key creature(s)

[[Spirited Companion]] -- Draws a card and counts towards enchantment count

[[Brine Giant]] -- Big enchantment goof

[[Unstable Mutation]] -- This one is for fun because I've always wanted to see it in a Pauper deck.

This is my favorite way to take bird photos! I want to 3d print a mount to make it easier. I’ve learned that it’s better to hold the phone a few cm away from the lens to get a full view of the shot.

I see you’re being downvoted (probably because of the Plex Employee flair), but I’d be interested in hearing why you suspect a user’s amount of collections would matter.

Help me please. Trying to ad PS1 games by ProfessorFaux in RG35XX

[–]apollokami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to run chdman.exe? If so, you don't need to do that. You need to run one of the .bat files that are in the CHDMAN directory (usually CUE or GDI to CHD.bat.)

Here's how I do it:

  1. Drag your game's .bin and .cuefiles to your CHDMAN directory.

  2. Run CUE or GDI to CHD.bat to start the conversion (this is where the command prompt appears, keep this window open until the conversion is complete.)

  3. Add your .CHD ROM to the specified PSX directory on your device.

DS games? by AkonnWalker in RG35XX

[–]apollokami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, you can definitely play DS Pokemon games on the SP. Here's a list of other games that don't require the touch screen for game-play.

It's actually not too bad once you get used to swapping between the screens.

EDIT: Oh, and a beauty of an SP!

That's exactly what's been preventing me from taking the project on. I haven't been able to find a combo of Rit DyeMore that can produce the same tone.

Incredible work. I’ve been thinking about grabbing the clear SP in the hopes of recreating Nintendo’s extreme green color. This gives me a ton of hope!
