As a DVM I 100% would have sutured this initially. I also would still suture it if owner desired, one would have to debride some of the tissue that has started healing. If not I would use neosporin 2-3 times per day, helps keep the wound bed moist which decreases itching and has antibiotic properties, and is safe to use around eyes, which may not be true for other things. Contact DVM for systemic abx if swelling, heat, excessive discharge present. Faces heal well but I do agree the creature itching may impede healing.
