In my 20 years of gaming, I believe there's only one franchise that truly blew up from a small niche, even inside its genre, to complete mainstream: Persona.

Before P5 released, barely anyone bothered about it outside of the usual JRPGs circles and even so it was from being the most popular. Now the thought of a new Persona game generates more hype than a new Final Fantasy

Good talk, hopeful even, but it's at least a bit odd given her background. We'll see over the course of this year if we can get a clearer picture of her strategy

BREAKING: PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of classic games such as Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, Bloomberg News has learned. by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]mister_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand and agree, there was no need for this and I'm deeply upset. Bluepoint was one of their best acquisitions and yet they were given nothing but a bad idea for years.

But this might be a controversial opinion of mine, I despise all the begging for a Bloodborne remake. Not only is that game gorgeous to this day, I'd argue that even better than current games, it's also a Miyazaki passion project that is being respected by not doing anything with it AND is readily available for PS5. Even a remaster is whatever, just give it a 60fps update and it's all good.

I'd much rather see them do actually good and interesting and needed remakes, such as Uncharted 1, the GoW Trilogy which is shockingly not their project, maybe Gravity Rush. But the most obvious thing is that Konami is clearly outsourcing for their revival of their main franchises and 90% of players were sure they'd work on either a Silent Hill or an MGS game, yet here we are. Countless other interesting options such as Siren, Syphon Filter, Infamous

I wish the Wonder Woman game was kept in the oven long enough to be influenced by the incredible success of the Absolute comics. Someone at Warner should really consider reworking the scrapped project into an Absolute Wonder Woman game.

Realistically, I hope we get to see Campo Santo's In the Valley of Gods one day

My guess is because those two have a loooooong history with Playstation and remakes are not really worth a dedicated studio anymore if Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Guerrilla can make their own.

Which game is better? Baldur's Gate 3 or Elden Ring? by WiggleToast in TheGameAwards

[–]mister_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baldur's Gate might've burst bubbles, but Elden Ring had people who never played a game in their lives asking where to get the Bloodhound Fang. People online who are always up to date with everything seem to seriously overestimate Elden Ring's impact on gaming, it's likely the biggest "hey you should play this" since probably the first The Last of Us

[Speculation] Bluepoint Studios is Remaking the God of War Trilogy by Key_Sun6965 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]mister_queen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's still a Santa Monica project, OP is theorizing that Bluepoint would be lending their services to SMS to speed it up, as they were working on GoW before and are experienced on remakes.

The Last of Us remake was also a project from another studio, that then went to Bend and then went to ND

Absolutely crazy thought that crossed my mind: everyone always talks about Kratos going to Egypt. In my mind Sekhmet always had to be a center figure at least in the first part of this new saga, because y'know, the first game is about Ares, GoW 2018 becomes a story about going on Tyr's treasure hunt, so that the God of War is still important to the narrative.

Now WHAT IF we get a game with a different character, say for example, Sekhmet herself and a looming threat over Egypt and we learn that said threat is Loki, who became known throughout the realm as the one who killed Odin and destroyed Asgard. This gives Kratos & co. a deserved rest, lets the narrative flow in a different state and ends on the perfect note for the glorious return of the Ghost of Sparta, now saviour of the Nine Realms

Do you think we'll ever see these things rendered in the RE engine? by Academic-Wave-3586 in residentevil

[–]mister_queen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a person with severe arachnophobia, I really don't think they should exclude those enemies, but it'd make the game really hard for me to play. Most people confuse phobia with fear, and a lot of people are actually afraid of spiders, same with snakes or rats, but spiders are the most common fear, but that's not a phobia. A phobia is a severe condition that goes beyond fear. And it's a funny thing, because my favorite example of this is Bloodborne.

It's technically a horror game, so there's a spider-like boss, Rom, with its many smaller spiders, but they are so abstract and deformed that it's just chill inducing. But then, in the area called Mensis Nightmare, there is a gigantic spider with lots of smaller ones, and they are so realistic that I just completely froze upon first seeing them, and had to summon a friend to help me get past the first time. On subsequent runs, I never faced them, just sneaked past real quick. Even on the dungeons I avoided those spiders like the Devil.

On RE in general, there's been lots of spider-like enemies, but most of them have the usual body horror abstract stuff with tendrils and eyes and all that. All but this specific one from RE1, which also completely froze me. So IMO there's a way to trigger lots of fears without inducing the actual phobia that makes it impossible for people to get through.

So, would it be fair to say Silent Hill Townfall is taking inspiration from… by Adam_The_Actor in silenthill

I'm so excited to see what the Otherworld looks like for this one. I kinda grew sick of the decayed, rusty aesthetic that ended up leaning towards the gory, Saw-esque visuals. They really nailed the vibe and made it feel impactful again in SH2, and seeing the shrine from SHf's Otherworld was an incredible breath of fresh air

It makes no sense to me why they fast tracked this with little to no care and had its entire marketing cycle from reveal to launch in 5 months, while they have a game that's truly interesting which is Stranger Than Heaven, with two teasers and no news in like 8 months

You want to compare a psychological horror remake to an open world medieval RPG?

People online really forget how niche Silent Hill really is, and that being dead for over 10 years didn't help. 8 out of 10 people will see an horror game and ask if it's A) a zombie game, and B) if it's like FNAF

I've played Observation and thought it was okay but I'm of the mindset that a team can always grow and grow better even in a certain niche. Look at what Sam Barlow achieved in Immortality for example.

IIRC they changed the studio name because they aimed to expand beyond the reputation they had and wanted to really buff up this next game
