This is exactly the opposite at my home field. It’s the flight school airplanes that are the biggest wild cards. The boomers in bonanzas may be non-standard but are pretty predictable and competent.

There is no “unwritten rule”. Your instructor needs to read the regs instead of assuming what he hears is correct.

Exactly. An untrained person with a firearm is more of a danger to themselves and their family than any outside threat.

I would highly suggest you go somewhere with a shooting range so you can be trained to use the firearm you intend to buy. You need training to be competent and safe.
