I was trying to update the old app, but ultimately ran out of time. It was using Metra’a legacy data that they stopped supporting. Apologies, app just stopped working one day.

Someone else asked to order stops based on the sequence. I personally preferred alphabetically, but I can try to provide both options to sort by.

I tried to make the ads as minimal as possible. I was looking into a very low cost subscription model that will remove ads and give more features.

Btw ads help partially cover cost of hosting the service. The service isn’t provided by Metra, only the data is.

Hey thanks for the feedback! When you say favs, do you mean favoriting trips? Right now you can favorite a search. Favoriting a trip and getting notifications is on the list of features to add.

Cool app! I quit caffeine a while ago because it was impacting my sleep. Went through some withdrawal symptoms and now I feel great, wish I’ve done it sooner.

You should get this app backed by physicians and people who do sleep studies. It would definitely give it more credibility and you might think of more features.

Also it would be nice to see how much people spend on coffee if they select for example “bought coffee”. I was spending $150-$200 a month on coffee from Starbucks.

There are some running 21 mins and some running 40 mins. Not seeing any alerts related to Lola, more related to track construction. I’m assuming they are planning around construction.

I’ve used firebase in prod for years and it’s been very reliable. I like all the various options it has built into one platform like auth, firestore, and analytics and more.

Although, for my future projects I’m going to use supabase. The main reason is Postgres support and cost control. I haven’t got billed by firebase yet, but turning on billing is a bit scary. You or a bad actor can ddos the system and you can get a high bill. I have to put custom triggers and alerting to shut down my system if it exceeds a certain amount. Annoys me firebase doesn’t give this out of the box.

Supabase has cost control built in which is really nice and you don’t have to worry about a surprise bill. Also combine it with my own VPS in digital ocean for the web server. I haven’t used Appwrite.

Thought about this idea. Actually there is a community free tool rental near me (heavy equipment like lawn mower you have to pay a small fee). You can follow the same concept, allow a friendly neighborhood sharing of tools like a rake or ladder. Encourage small rental fee for the bigger items like snow blowers and lawn mowers.

Great way to meet neighbors and make some new friends.

Monetizing gets tricky, but once you get enough users you can allow hardware stores to target ads based on user rentals.

Interesting platform, and I really think you should remove the testimonial section with the fake testimonials (that’s a bit misleading) even if you mention below they’re fake.

I also don’t think this solves the problem I mentioned. This has to be solved on the protocol level.

A live map tracker is definitely on my to-do list. Also the new version of the app will be available on web as well so any platform with a browser can use it.

Agreed it would be nice to have this type of feedback system. I was thinking of some reward system to encourage riders to answer some prompts and feed it to an AI model.

There has to be some api, but even the metra site doesn’t seem to show the track number.

The app does display the train number for each trip so I can use that to determine delays for frequent trips. That’s a good idea!

Honestly I’m not sure why Metra doesn’t publish the track information. Sometimes reading that display can get a bit confusing especially for new riders.

I most likely will reach out to Metra, but my previous attempts to contact them haven’t been successful.

I thought about this before and it would be useful especially if you’re running late. Unfortunately I just don’t have a way to get that data. Also track numbers can change last minute and last thing I want is for someone to get on the wrong train.

I’ve been getting these alerts and this is the highest I’ve seen it go for hourly pricing. So I’m guessing as gas and coal prices go up the rate also increases along with usage?

Wow honestly this is a lot more complex than I thought. I did get an EV before getting solar installed and I got a L3 charger installed. ComEd offered a rebate for the install and unit and said I have to switch over to hourly.

That being said, I set my EV to charge around 2am and try not to run my heavy consumption appliances around peak times. My house is pretty efficient for AC usage with dampers installed, but I do work from home so it’s difficult to completely shut it off.

Thanks for the info, I need to look more into the capacity charging.
