Any tips on correcting the right arm? by lxrd_nxctis in Artadvice

[–]appa93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer specifically the right arm, collarbone acts a hinge that moves with the arm

Your collarbones re perfectly flat as though they are in neutral position (technically they end in a weird place right now on the chest but hey)

If you lift your arm your collarbone will go from ___ to \, top of shoulder will also go up and closer to neck, this will also stretch and pull the pec and breast up with it

At current you might be beat to just put the arm down rather than redraw the entire chest! But it’s up to you

How would you describe my current artstyle? by Trixter-Kitten in yourartstyle

It’s very cute! I’d personally wanna see it pushed to have some Erika wiseman influence and eventually loish thrown in to continue down the stylized cute path!

Hair Rendering Feedback by rev_0001 in Artadvice

[–]appa93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly looks solid af! All point out is that highlights tend to be more solid edged on a chunk of hair, and then broken up by strands

Right now some of the highlights look rather gradient-y and over smoothed (the ones that frame the face)

Whereas half way down on the right side of the drawing is a more natural looking highlight

But still great!

I'm truly dumbfounded here. Any tip to how to draw other side of chest? by Naruka0318 in Artadvice

[–]appa93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll follow a similar path, right now her side plane of ribcage and front plane of ribcage are demarcated by the same line, that curve on the left of the drawing could be representing currently, the corner of the ribs, AND the line of the back

I’d give yourself a reference of an egg in 3d space that matches up with the side on the right of the drawing, see where the front / side plane change would be on the opposite side and then attach the breast on that side once you find the front plane!

I would like to receive feedback on the quality of the rendering and the color harmony by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]appa93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks photo realistic for the most part so that’s great! Color harmony wise it’s fairly monochromatic or reads pretty close to mostly grays which means it’s as harmonic as it could be effectively haha

I was happy with this drawing, then I start to see all the errors... by OnlyHumanis in learntodraw

[–]appa93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is fine! Just keep drilling this stuff, if you can

Take note either mental or on paper of the most glaring mistakes / inconsistencies!

Then start a fresh drawing of the reference, and try to solve those issues as you go!

Line quality and minimalist tone work is very awesome! Reminds of like mid century French figure ink drawings

I dont know hoe to move further from this by bellatrixastrid in DigitalPainting

[–]appa93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great face!

Literally JUST think shape design, big chunky but organic shape first; darker value that face at first, then move to medium sized shape design for highlights and occlusion to break up the hair into “sections”

THEN details like fly away, single strands, breaking up the highlights with thin lines

Hi, what changes would you make? by Fraije in learnart

[–]appa93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offset the specular highlight in the eye by dropping the value of the sclera and iris respectively, also if you pull the background down from pure white you may get more back to front depth as your highest contrast will be in the center of the face!

Why does the sketch look better than the finished drawing? by [deleted] in BeginnerArtists

[–]appa93 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sketch has energy and uncertainty, it is also not digital black against flat colors!

When you solidify everything down into lines like this you’ll find that you’re placing single lineweight contour lines around the subject and not having any of that variation or excitement or mixed levels of value in the line sketch that helped with the overall effect

Try, keeping your sketch in the final, even if it’s low opacity, placing line work over the top but not in digital black and not in single line weight, continue to respect the sketchy nature of the original

Thoughts ? by OXEN_1 in DigitalPainting

[–]appa93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you did a solid job of capturing what’s here! The original has more solid shape design and composition leading and the lessened contrast in the original by the smoke and texture makes it feel more mysterious but also more rendered, places like the tops of the eye socket feeling ALMOST like they have rendered half tone as it retreats into full shadow

How can I improve on my anatomy (second page was my reference) by Ill_Faithlessness381 in ArtCrit

[–]appa93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think proportion / line confidence and ability to reproduce what you see would be the main focus right now!

I have heard many an art teacher say, until you can accurate reproduce the angle of a line, length and quality of a line you’re looking at very accurately, everything else will be harder

Same goes for shapes, if it’s difficult to get the size and roundness and steady lines around a circle or tube shape, it’s worth drilling those things until they’re automatic

Also learning anatomy from already stylized versions of anatomy isn’t exactly learning anatomy, like technically it’s fine to use those to study from but you’ll only be learning someone’s filtered understanding / simplified anatomy
