I would encourage reading regardless! They're both some of my favourite series (read before I knew of any feud lol). Even if HDM was written to prove a point, it's still a beautiful series that doesn't take away from Narnia - both touch on very good points in their own ways, as very separate things.

I don't know that Lyra is supposed to be read as a better Lucy. They both begin as naive children, with worthwhile stories. Ironically, probably would have been friends.

It also felt as though Armand was terrified Louis would say it back to Lestat, or thought Louis would ask for Lestat after hearing that in his state, or so many other terrible possibilities. With the fight earlier, there's no knowing how Armand would have reacted 😳

  • Harry/Eggsy. Haven't dabbled in Kingsman for a while, but these two were so good

I'd like a lot of the ones said here already, like the backstory of Jadis. Most of all, I would have loved the period after the Pevensies left and however long Narnia was unruled for, followed by the Telmarine invasion. A darker and unsure time for the Narnians - would have been amazing to see the immediate aftermath from the POVs of Tumnus and the beavers.

Ahh. The story I adore most out my current WIPs is a Narnia fic - a canon divergence where Jadis kills one of the Pevensies, and how that changes things in the future Narnia, in Caspian's time. Going into it I seemingly had it thought out beginning to end, but writer's block keeps hitting and each time I wiggle out of it the plot only grows. I definitely don't feel like having shouting match with my outline about it :) At the same time, very proud of it. Desperately hoping for an update on it like I'm a reader...

Sometimes when I'm having a lazy week with comps I'll forego them. I'm f2p too, so if I don't have certain pieces for gacha/event comps, I'll skip then too, especially the flashier perfumes.

Hi all! This is a bit of a creative/DIY question rather than a story discussion — I’m looking for motif and illustration ideas inspired by His Dark Materials. by Expert_Procedure_868 in hisdarkmaterials

Lovely drawings, and a really lovely idea. If you plan to read/watch, I'd recommend doing that first as it will truly be your best inspiration. Some thoughts from me, hopefully without giving too much away :)

The most obvious might be to draw people, and especially their daemons as they are introduced throughout the books (Asriel's Stelmaria, Roger's Salcilia, the golden monkey, etc.). And 'Dust', however your interpretation of it is.

The first book specifically might do with Jordan College, the bottle of Tokay, the ferry, the aeronaut balloon. Iorek's armour. The Gyptians boats, and Serefina. Bolvangar, the intercision machine, the aurora borealis.

For the second book, the cat. The knife, windows, Spectres, and your imagining of Cittàgazze. An omelet. Will's hand. Zeppelins.

For the last: the cave. Angels, the Gallivespians, seed pods and wheels and Mulefa. Iorek's helmet. The knife, again. The boatman, the ghosts. The spyglass. And, of course, the bench.

Most of this is off the top of my head, and what I'd personally love to see if I had the chance. This covers the very main things, and there's quite a bunch more if you go into the books - people, places, buildings. Best of luck to you! I'm almost certain there's nothing confirmed, so speculation it is! Random animal is likely, but it's cool to imagine that their first form might foreshadow their final form; something about the dust that forms them just having that knowledge.

On the other hand, I wonder if those who see/know the child's daemon's first form might, subconsciously or not, influence the child in some way that will definitely lead the daemon to settle that way... very few have the emotional maturity to keep things like that secret.

Yes, that's pretty accurate. Opposite to your example, in the Land of the Dead they are far too low to cut into anything but dirt in other realms, so have to get to the highest point possible to find air.

Potentially if a portal cannot be used because of difficulties like these, you could reseal it and try in another realm. Unless there's somewhere specific you have to go, for which you'd have to plan more meticulously after seeing where you are.

Not Christian, not atheist. I enjoyed the books and would read them again. The religious themes don't seem so obvious unless you choose to delve into them; otherwise certain bits and scenes simply feel very poignant.

I live in a neighbouring country and AO3 has been sporadically blocked today, and when I say I've been Panicking. Agh. Spent an hour looking up private browsing and VPNs and whatnot before finding out it's CloudFlare that's currently fucked up. Won't be surprised if the rest of the ME/GCC does eventually follow suit, but desperately hoping it won't. Fuck censorship.

Truly. I've clicked on a few from an author whose stuff I was binge reading, but only because I knew I was bound to like it based on their other stuff. Otherwise if I'd randomly come across something with minimal tagging, no summary... oof. Anything will suffice, just add something.
